I'd like to show you one of the bugs that is a real problem for the game right now. Engineers unlocking randomly and for "free"

I'm genuinely surprised that people are not more angry that people are being given for free what they had to grind for.

Damn, community might be growing up.
This is ridiculous, I spend all this time GRINDING and then FRONTIER go and GIVE IT AWAY to some NEWB.

I CANT BELIEVE THIUS!!!

I am going to wreite a reviw on amazon to tell people about this BULL SH..

Never done any engineering so I figured it was just to give me a To Do list to start, but did think it was odd that it said I'd donated to something...

Happened to my Nephew.

He got the game like a couple weeks back, but didn't start playing Odyssey until last week.

Logged in on day one, everything was as it should be. Logged in on day 2, he had Farseer, Martuk, Blaster and Dweller all unlocked.
Not exactly for free though, it's just the unlock donation that's free and typically any of those can either be done in an hours play or by buying the commodity in question from a nearby carrier at a bloated price - you still need to have the materials, rank up to get invitations and travel to them. Not exactly the 'exploit' of the century.
Yep, same. We've got new players being handed engineers for no effort.

Give it time, I am sure the resentment will set in soon. Which I am counting on as it is a pretty alarming exploit.
Clearly, some people are not getting laid nearly enough.

False.
He did literally nothing to unlock or receive invites.
That's probably because all the Engineers you listed are public knowledge and unlocking any of them can be done in under an hour. Now, had he brutally massacred your family with a chainsaw, I might understand some resentment, but for this...

I didn't say I resented it. I simply recounted what occurred.

Well spotted (can't confirm though, obviously). And I guess a majority of said new players want to kill you now. 😬
Personally I couldn't care less. But for the integrity of the game that's really alarming.
Most likely.

But in the interests of fair play, which is kinda' important in games, as you already know hence the integrity comment, I'm really not bothered if people dislike me for this.

Everyone here is, after all, just a random gamer-schmuck on the Interwebz who will never have any impact on my life outside this online community.

Guess you can put that next to the other thread I saw around that weapons reload themselves for free when you go into SC.
If you pop a heatsink just before you jump into hyperspace and it is still reloading during the countdown you get an infinite amount of heatsinks.

Still have a bunch of engineers to unlock myself, just having recently had enough Modular Terminal reward missions to unlock Marco this past weekend, and it was still required so it must be somewhat random, or effecting specific engineers?
Amending my previous comment here.

Turns out i was wrong, i know, shocking right? :ROFLMAO:

So with Marco i was already in progress of unlocking from a while back, life in sidey means doing things in pieces when and where you can since you can't just indefinitely carry around x modular terminals until you have enough.

So anywayz, in this case, because it was already partly completed, i had to finish collecting the mod terminals and deliver them it seems.

I tested by going to see Todd, who i hadn't even started on since mostly i fly unarmed and i don't think i've ever even seen a combat bond. Was able to mod a canon with no fuss and no unlock requirements.

So, confirmed that this is an actual thing. Wether a bug or by design (removing grind by easing the unlocks rather than the mod material requirements feels backwards, but then...fdev) who knows?

Just as well then.
Indeed.

I mean, what is anyone going to do about it? See? No reason to be bothered at all.

(And if you're talking about in-game retaliation, well, I changed my CMDR name, so nobody is gonna' know when they see me :p)

I don't see any problem. At worst, it's an improvement. Are we sure it's a bug and not something nice for the players ?

Well, maybe this is an opportunity to permanently unlock all ship engineers for everyone and just be done with this pointless grind.
In the end, finding all materials is another time gate so one down is still an improvement.

Yeah, I know, we've worked our flat pilot butts off, but so did the people who ventured first to previously-unexplored glaciers and set a path for everyone else to see - today we can drive a car next to said glacier to see it melting (kinda ironic) but the point is: progress is someone doing something difficult first so it's not that difficult for others.
