If someone from Fdev streams themselves unlocking all the Guardian tech. I will eat my eye patch.

Hah!

No one at Fdev has ever fully engineered a ship
No one at Fdev has unlocked Palin.
No one at Fdev has reached admiral or king or likely 1/3 of that rank
No one at Fdev has ever reached elite status

They don't play their own game. So much of the placeholders and grind would be evident if they did.

Which telecom company do you work for that isn't making hundreds of millions or even billions in profit each year?

One you've never heard of that services a whole 3 towns. Not even cities, towns. Small rural telcos are not profitable and only stay in business due to fcc subsidies that exist for the sole reason of making sure people in low population density areas can get access to telco utilities.

edit: Just saw the mod reply on the previous page about on topic, oops sorry!

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Brett is not going to be the guy to do this stream, if indeed it's gonna be done. (I have zero say or knowledge about FD's response). I do know that you're barking up the wrong tree by asking Brett to do this himself. That's not his job.

He did say that he was in communication with the rest of the Community Team and that he'd make sure they were aware of the request. That's all that can be reasonably expected of him.

No it doesn't, but I understand everything's fine as long as you make billions.. Carry on

The art team do a brilliant job, the sound team do a brilliant job, whoever initially designs the puzzles does a good job, then someone comes along and decides that doing that 10+ times is a great idea. Screw that, I can't fathom why anyone would bother for a bunch of modules that are not even needed to play ED or fight the thargoids.

The only way that dev will figure things out if people stop doing these repetitive puzzles.. I took one look and flew back to the bubble.

Precisely. The art, sound and rendering teams do a great job. Then the gameplay designers come along turn everything into groundhog day. They should be ashamed.

I think an extremely small percentage of the developers play the game like we do. If they do play, it’ll probably be in a very focused way like Ed does with exploration, or they just dabble, from time to time. I’d imagine lots of the people, working on the game totally agree with us. They just can’t influence anything and don’t want to be labelled as negative.

I noticed, the other day, that honking no longer works during assassination missions and was directed to a bug report thread.

In that thread, somebody from QA confirmed that you have to scan the nav beacon rather than honking to locate your target.
To which, somebody pointed out that the mission-briefing specifically SAYS you can use a disco-scanner to locate your target.

QA operative re-appears to clarify that he meant that honking with a disco-scanner only works at a reduced range.
To which, somebody had to ask for clarification since the range of the ADS is supposed to be infinite.

Not really fussed how this turns out but the main point is that there would have been no confusion at all if the person from QA was at all familiar with the game.

Also, I doubt they're familiar with QA either, given that Quality Assurance is absolutely nothing to do with dealing with faulty products, but I digress.

Like that would ever happen! No sane person would do this in one session, only the most grind obsessed player would do this. Any JRPG fans at FD?

Surprised noone has pointed out the QA scam around here.

Does FD not charge its own playerbase for access to the "test server"?

The truly hilarious part is when often glaring issues are found.. noted.. and pushed out live anyway! And FD actually gets folks to pay them for the honor!

I'm in two minds about this whole topic:

On the one hand - absolutely - I'll donate £100 to an FDev named charity (as long as it is a legit charity) if Sandro live streams himself gathering all the materials to unlock a module (one that requires at least 18 blue prints) and then tells us his estimate of how many more hours he is going to need to unlock the rest and whether he is enjoying it.

On the other hand - nobody has to do this. So what? I haven't even been slightly tempted to unlock any Guardian Tech. Nobody is forcing you. And this is the key point: imagine the following scenario:

Sandro: I've invented the Guardian tech, the players will just have to collect a different guardian blue print for each module, it'll take then no more than 45 minutes a module. Each blue print will be a different puzzle - fun and enjoyable - I respect their time.
FDev Accountant: That's great Sandro... But that means the community will unlock everything in less than a day, get bored of the new modules within 3 days, and stop playing. Are you going to fire half your Engineering team?
Sandro: What? What do you mean?
FDev Accountant: Our income - that pays your wages - is derived from frustrating the player community into putting pointless hours, days, weeks & months of grinding hours into this game, so that to relieve the pain - they will spend money on us for paint jobs etc. You take away the grind, the players stop spending - you fire your team. Get it?
Sandro: Ah! I'll just multiple the required materials by a rather large number...

So what your saying is that accountants are in charge of Elite game design?

Makes sense looking at some of the design choices.

Trust an accountant to suck the fun out of any party:p

I’m starting to believe all the circumstantial evidence pointing to ED currently being in the process of game design by accountant (though I think at one point it was “game design by marketing.”)

Isn't Ed supposed to be Frontier's in-house crast test dummy? Have him do it. We all want to see Ed and Sandro race to finish the grind! Either that or DB himself doing the grind.

Tripling my donation if it's DB that unlocks all Guardian modules, whilst smiling through the stream, and finishes with "We value your time".

I would not be surprised if the grinding was in part because some paper pusher thinks that ruining player's experience of the game results in more paint purchases, but I would argue it's the other way around. The easier it is for players to get content new content, or copies of the same content, the more they will want to spend on customizing it. If it takes me a month to max out a single ship, I'm probably only going to buy 1 paint at most for it. Now if I am able to buy and max out 4-5 ships in a month, I'll probably buy a few paints and maybe some decals ect. It is financially against fdevs interests to slow down our progression, as it means we will have fewer reasons to buy customizations for our ships. Yet time and again they do so. It's mind boggling.

They did but I belive the last two were open to all (pc only) I found the whole pay for beta a bit baffling even more so that people would pay for it allbeit a small fee.
