Ignoring or harming PvP in game design is contributing to ganking

Was playing catch compulsory?

.... or did each child in the playground choose to participate?

I suspect it was the latter - in which case it is highly likely that not all residents of the playground were playing chase.

If you are in the playground that is Open, all games are merged into one, since no-one is declaring what game is going on.

True, the distinction is though, if you are walking across the playground no one drags you forcibly into the game.
Pretty sure the big kids didn't play with the little kids either, well they didn't at my school.

Little kids at my school ganged up on the big kids and tied them to trees.

They then get to be the chaser.
Lol... The most fun is being able to escape. Outsmarting or outrunning the chaser and knowing there's nothing they can do to catch you. You know who end up being the chaser in the end? The slowest person. That's why a game of chase with just one chaser isn't very fun for long, as shortly you'll have the slowest person being unable to catch someone and the game effectively ends.

It's also fun to dodge balls in dodgeball. That's the role you as a trader/miner have. You're the one who haven't yet been hit in dodgeball. Evade and avoid getting hit! Seeing your opponent try and fail to hit/catch you is fun.

The post was not in reply to a post of mine - hence no acknowledgement.

It's also subjective - I'm glad that you enjoy the frisson, which can't be said of all players.
It is, but there's clearly "fun" to be had in being chased and dodging balls. If you don't personally find it fun: why are you on the dodgeball court complaining that people throw balls at you?

Yes they can. to solo or PG (or in this case the library or dinner hall).
Depends - it's up to them really - the game provides modes and tools to control who one plays among, or not, and leave at will.

While some rather obviously want any player they target to be forced to stick around to the end of an interaction, playing their way, Frontier didn't create their game like that. Sandro did indicate that not all players would agree with Frontier's stance regarding menu exit - which means that Frontier are aware of disagreement - however that hasn't changed it.

.... because it's the only large multi-purpose space, shared by players of all games. That some assume that everyone is playing dodge-ball is down to them.

It was put rather well here:
I really love fencing, me and my friends would love to fence all the time with everyone else in the gym, but most of the other members really don't understand our love for fencing and the gym rarely hosts tournament for us to fence in. So, the only natural way to have organic fencing is to go around the gym and stab random members doing their push-ups and squats. It's the gym's fault anyway, they should hand a sword to everyone coming in to do their exercises. And with exercises I mean fencing, of course.

What FD need to do is make the security response now much faster and reactive if you want greater protection from proper pirates.

Its only when you are hostile do SC security ships actually take an interest in you- it should be that once you gain an assault charge in a system (not murder) the cops actively want to talk to you and keep on popping up regardless of subsequent crimes if they scan you in SC. Your idea could fit into that, where the minute the pirate is reported (or killer maybe too) it makes security zoom in on that player flying about.

It should also be security response times much quicker based on the attacks proximity to shipping lanes and stations, and that the hidden BGS stats of wealth, technology level dictates the security strength- so Sol would have ATR levels of security, while some backwater shack outpost rusty Sidewinders.

Another way that could give tip offs is having a scannable rap sheet. A good pirate will always have lots of assaults and few murder charges, while someone who kills for jollies will have more murders than assaults. Seeing this as a ratio might give someone a quick overview of that lurking Clipper.
Absolutely flipping awesome suggestions! That's what I've always meant when I've talked about making C&P something other than a pointless joke, but I've never been able to come up with specific, concrete examples of how to do that. You did, however.

Now, of course, seeing as how ED seems to have been sent into maintenance mode with all content cut (goodbye, II, CG, GalNet, fixing missing POIs etc.) while whatever limited resources are still left to Frontier's former cash cow committed to space legs and making sure everybody can buy an FC and, more importantly, liveries and whatnot with real money, it remains to be seen if enough bean counters at Frontier give enough of a tinker's to implement some of those ideas.

I'm not holding my breath.

Mobius would like to have a word.

No, we're playing Elite: Dangerous in Open; where anything you can do is allowed, including but not limited to being pirated and killed. You choose to play the game where these aspects are part of it. You chose to walk onto that dodgeball court while knowing people may throw balls at you. If you don't get hit: great! But don't complain if people try. It comes with the game.

If "anything you can do is allowed" then that includes blocking and using menu exit - as there are no restrictions on their use.

.... and PGs lack the unlimited population of Open
