Horizons I'm afraid I may have doomed myself...

I had just landed on a planet in my Asp and set off in my SRV. I tried to dismiss my ship, but all it did was kind of sink into its landing gear and sit there. It clearly didn't have enough power to reactivate it's thrusters with all the other modules turned on (power was at about 89% usage with thrusters OFF after landing). I drove away until it despawned but now I'm scared to recall it incase it just drops out of the sky since it can't power the thrusters. Can anybody confirm if it'll do that? I don't have the credits to rebuy if I lose it.

well, Gromit - it looks like you either stay on the planet in your SRV forever or recall the ship and see what happens! Go on, you know you have to!

Don't forget to let us know what happened

Take one for the team and conduct the experiment.

This was a mistake that, hopefully, you wont do again.

I was just asking for trouble. I felt fairly confident in my ability to take a nice peaceful trek around the galaxy without too much trouble, shields and all! Lasted a good ten minutes that did.

There's not too many options anyway, so I guess I'll just have to give it a shot and hope for the best.

I want to know what happens if you load the 32 bit client. You obviously can't exist on the planet and I believe a patch note mentioned allowing you to spawn in a nearby station.

But how does this work if you're way out there?

Recall it, you can always send it away again and move to another part of the planet.
Let us know how it goes.

That's what I was thinking. Also, if you respawn at a station, do you lose the ship and have to rebuy?

Just self destruct your SRV. You will respawn in your ship and probably have time to activate your thrusters if need be, before it crashes :)

If I recall how it works, you can die in the buggy, and spawn in your ship on the last space station/starport you visited. You should be able to salvage the situation and save your Asp.

Hmm. Destructing my SRV or loading the 32-bit version both sound tempting. Do I play it safe and guarantee I get my ship back... or take the hit for science?

That is damn good advice, I read that in one of the patch notes. I guess they have to, you might have gone somewhere with no access to your main PC and stuck with a PC that can run Elite but not Horizons.

Bet you'll re-spawn in the nearest space station.

Bit of a get out but it'd still be interesting to see what happens.

I chose the path of science and after calling in my ship, it just hovered there about 1KM above the planet. Gravity doesn't seem to be doing anything. It's not moving and it's not falling.

Edit: It eventually blew up after maybe 15 minutes of sitting in the sky. I'm not sure why though. Maybe because I drove away, or maybe it somehow overheated. Oh well. I guess I can chalk that up as my first exploration death.

Well Rep for how well you're taking it anyway.

Lots of things to be learned from this, thank you sir +1 rep to you :) Too bad you didn't have the cr for insurance but next time you will not forget this golden rule anymore :)

You get put in orbit around the planet, real handy for getting of those High G worlds.

Edit: ignore this, the above post confirms how it works.

I think respawning in a station throws up a very big potential loophole... I'm 25kly out, I land on a planet. I log out. I log back in to the 32 bit client. Boom, back home instantly.

If this is how it works then it needs to be changed so that you log in but your ship is just above orbit. To be honest, it might already be this way anyway.
