I've had the forum troll me on many occasions... Lol

The game, also.

I'm still here though. :)

How on Earth did people quit games before the Internet and online forums (fora?), without the ability to let thousands know they were quitting the game?

Oh, wait, they just stopped playing one game and switched to another. Simpler times...
I always thought they threw their controller at the screen...

I agree that this game is lack lust in allot of aspect . and its not the feature them self that are lacking but all the LITTLE THINGS.

I can literally do EVERY THING in this game except for PvP while watching Netflix. ( like seriously LOL , EASY MODE )

1: bounty hunting is repetitive kill a ship , reload kill a ship moving on.

2: exploring : every system looks the same . auto pilot 100% of the time.. no *space anomalies* no micro asteroids , no radiation to worries about nothing.. just auto pilot and 2 season of your Favorite series on NETFLIX

3: Mining: aside from Netflix , your other option is the*dont let the refinery get full mini game*
sure you can also drive around your SRV and shoot at rock every 5KM... and once in a while find the same crash site or base you saw 2 hours ago and kill 2 skimmers.

4: trading: lol trading... you know how many times i've been back to the same station by accident because everything just blurs into one , every thing feels the same. * dont let the Pirate interdict you mini game*

5: mission: ok fine you get diversity from doing mission but the only once worth Wild are the once you do over and over and over * quince mode *

6: PvP is probably the most fun but if you dare talk about it you get called a griefer by the local 12 year old kids.

7: passenger mission: really fun if you have VR put on a captain HAT and talk to your self while Role playing!! lol or get a conda and fly while watching netflix till you make that 40M

8: RNGINEER!! IS THE BEST PART OF THIS GAME!!!!!! probably the only thing that isn't STALE by comparison. while farming the mats you actually need to do a bunch of different things.. THEN you get to play ROULETTE!! like at the casino!! put all your mats and SPIN THAT WHEEL!! WEeEeEeEeEeEeE!!!!!! COME ON RED!! ( or black ) ( some times i put 5$ on double ZERO :) lol)

honestly engineers are the only reason i still play and i really hope 2.4 brings out something new and not just NEW but i REALLY hope they start to fill in the VAST EMPTY GAPS that this game has... i know space is EMPTY but no reason for this game to be.

I always thought they threw their controller at the screen...

I once broke a 360 controller by slamming it down on a coffee table after failing a frustrating mission on Grand Theft Auto IV. I picked up my other controller and beat the mission on the very next try. Then I looked at my broken pad and felt foolish and sad. I like to think I learned something that day.

Last time I threw a controller out of rage was in the good old Mega Drive days.

I got angry at a tricky level I kept dying on (Sonic 2 I think), and threw my controller in a huff, which of course was wired, and dragged my Mega Drive off the TV (it was on top of the old box TV!) and reset it...

So instead of just losing a life, I had to start the game all over again. Lol

I never threw a controller after that. :D

FURTHERMORE, quit throwing us out of a jump pointed right at the primary at full throttle. Even when I'm paying attention, I nearly crash at every brown dwarf. What, are you TRYING to troll people who are distracted?

This makes me wonder if you ever seriously played the game. It makes it hard to take anything you say seriously.

Why would you ever come full throttle out of a jump?

That only happened to me twice in the first week I played the game.
I considered it a lesson about how to fly my ship and it never happened again... ever!
If it happens to you still then that is pure pilot error.
That is all there's to it.
It's the same kind of pilot error as overshooting a target in supercruise (which still happens to me once in a while).
I would never even consider complaining about it, because that would be absurd and a display of ignorance..

Basic navigation is boring and requires too much input.

I would like even more player input, especially in super cruise. I think that would make it less boring as opposed to what you are asking for. Less to do is more boredom.
I want to be able to influence my ship's behaviour in supercruise, perhaps through pip manipulation. I want more 'piloty' stuff to do.

As a gamepad user, I tend to exit all jumps at full throttle, because the game sometimes doesn't register gamepad input during Hyperspace.
I can always press X on the keyboard to come to a halt though.

But it's usually easier to just pull 'up'. Lol

I rarely hit a star though.

We're all playing the same game (I'm assuming you're playing Horizons), I read a post yesterday showing players with 4k+ hours! Sorry you don't find it to your liking, yes there are bugs and yes, there could be QOL improvements but there is also a huge amount of variety to what you can do. I often have limited time, so if I can't meet a timer for an assassination mission I do a quick delivery mission, or maybe take a spin in the SRV to find mats for an Engineer upgrade, or go exploring (a half hour at at time). Frustrated with passenger missions, take part in a CG! Focusing on a few aspects of the game that don't work/work for you, and ignoring the slew of other possible game options, will absolutely frustrate you.

You could always try NMS!

Slowest grind ever? Much as I actively avoid grinding, I just have to say elite is a lightweight when it comes to grind games. Even eve beat it by being locked behind skill learning times where it took upwards of 6 to 9 months of real time skill training just to fly a ship ye built a year previous to that. Imagine having that ship fer over a year and not being able to even test drive it, not once. Past spending a couple billion on faction implants to speed up certain attributes by a few days if ye were lucky enough and rich enough...apart from that, there were no shortcuts. Theres shortcuts and cash cows every other week here, to the point where money itself becomes all but worthless as its so easy to make.

And ye think ye know what grind is? Trust me, this aint actually that bad in comparison to many other games that I dont know...I just know the grind is much less time consuming in elite than many seem to believe. Although it can be more frustrating here whereas in other games, one could actually see their efforts making a difference, whereas here...less so.

Yeah the thing about forums are that stuff like that happens now and then...bloody annoying had it happen a few time because quite literally, the brown stuff happens and thats life. And while many will argue till they blue in the face, including the esteemed mods, that a forum is where we discuss and debate this game...and other things sometimes.

But I say its also a place to just let loose the tongue of war and just spout the biggest load o ballix till each other...sometimes about the game, but mostly just pure, unadulterated ranting at the injustice of them.

How dare they make a game so good it inspires us with the passion we had as teenagers as we approach our 50s, and how dare that game be flawed that the passion turns to hate and bitterness...that sword cuts both ways as is the nature of the beast.

Im really not trolling btw...just ranting while in a better mood than the op and trying add a little perspective ^

Get some sleep dude. Take some excercise. Read a book

Then turn Pirate. It's loads more fun than being a bus driver. (Also you crashed the bus so there's that)

Finally take a deep breath and remember it's just a game.

Seriouly, I don't get the whole 'hitting the star' thing <jump>. While I typing here I'm jumping. The throttle is at 100% all the time. <jump> When I hear the end of the jump, I just grap the joystick, fly around the star <jump>, scoop a bit fuel, wait for the heat to drop and <jump> continue on my journey. I don't think I've hit a star in the last year.
Excuse me, I have to dock.

I'm done... I'm beyond done.

I just spent 4 hours writing a very in depth critique of this game, and thoughts on how it could be improved. I wanted to address the game devs directly with constructive feedback. This was sparked by one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had in my 15 years of gaming, that effectively made 109 hours of progress WORTHLESS.

... I hit "preview post"... And the page reloaded telling me I was logged out for inactivity... Logged back in, and hit "restore save" to find 90% of it gone (even though it had been "autosaving" up till the very end)...

I'm done... Even the damn forum page has wasted my time and energy. I might try to rewrite that critique, but not when it's 4 in the g morning. And I might return to this game in a few years time... Hopefully by then, it won't be so headache inducing...

I know anybody who is reading this is probably like "who in his cereal", but I also know a lot of you have your own complaints about the game... Why should I bother even explaining myself when others already have.

Alright fine, I'll sum it up

Passenger missions are a joke and don't reflect how ACTUAL passenger economies work. (Who the charters an entire cruise liner, and buys several cabins per person?) They make the Beluga, one of the coolest additions to the game utterly pointless. No, you don't charter this SHIP to go look at your 3 tourist beacons, I should pick the route, LIKE A REAL CRUISE LINER WOULD.

This game has one of the slowest grinds I have ever seen

Said grind was so frustratingly slow that I took unnecessary risks to get a ship I wanted (Beluga)... Which I promptly lost over a ship scan, and couldn't afford the rebuy costs for (Yes yes yes, shut up, I get it, don't buy it if you can't afford insurance, well you know what, tell that to the extra 30+ hours of more grinding it would've required me to get some decent overhead)

Mission timers are. I preclude myself from accepting certain missions because I know real life will keep me from ever completing them before the timer is up.

Basic navigation is boring and requires too much input. This is a game you multitask to on long trips. Give us a damn autopilot already, I couldn't care less about the hundreds of jumps needed to go to the core. FURTHERMORE, quit throwing us out of a jump pointed right at the primary at full throttle. Even when I'm paying attention, I nearly crash at every brown dwarf. What, are you TRYING to troll people who are distracted?

I've got a lot more to say than that, but there's no point if the forum's just going to erase it. And I know I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for saying this crap, but honestly, I'm so steamed right now, I'm actually biting my tongue, because being rude to the game developers or the player base won't solve anything.

Farewell CMDR your individuality will be greatly missed both on the game and in forum. But planets will still be beige, skimmers will fall, griefers will grief and the forum will have soon to be ex CMDRs dear johns. Goodbye.

Pro-tip: if you're writing anything you think is "important", use Notepad and then paste it across to a forum.

Surely you meant Notepad++. That temp file autosave feature is golden. :D

OP, it really comes down to this--if you don't enjoy flying a space ship for the sake of flying a glorious space ship, this game probably isn't gonna do it for you. I have tons of gripes with the game myself, but the "I'm flying a bleepity bleep spaceship" if what brings me back after every break. If you do like that, then take a break. It does wonders when the game has run you down with its foibles.

Many new players go through the same rage quit episodes you are experiencing. I did.

Personally, I wouldn't start the game running long distance passenger runs, the endless jumps for one, leave me stupefied.

When I started the game passengers weren't an option, so you had mining, trading, exploring and combat .

My game was concentrated on combat, trading and mining in order of activity. I lost any number of ships, worked the Fed ranks and obtained an FDS, then FAS. I also used a Vulture. Killed many NPC's and gained CR from bounties, importantly, learned basic flight and tactics.

Eventually got a Python, the impact this ship has on your game is often overlooked. It gets you over the hump. It trades, can fight, mines quite effectively. It multiplies your effectiveness.

As you progress, unlock the engineers most needed, your FSD, weapons and shields. Even the first three grades can make an tremendous difference.

This is a marathon, not a sprint. Set achievable goals, today I will try to make 2 mill CR or collect x bits for an engineer.

Good luck.

Gawd help the op if he ever discovers kerbal space program :D

"I quit... my 50th try at getting into space exploded at 42km up... what gives man?"*

*while the ksp vets all say 42km at your 50th launch.. ya getting good ....:p

Not the post I was expecting. As easy credit sources are removed I think we will see more of these frustrated stories....we already seem to be getting more.

Thankfully, there are plenty of big moneymakers still around. IMO every new player should do some serious exploration after some hours in the game. Rare good trading, ground missions, ram tan ancient ruins mission (nerfed but still ok), and then later sightseeing missions in a Asp X aren't good moneymakers. I wish they were leaving massacre stacking alone, that is the last big combat moneymaker. Mining is still a good moneymaker early game and is still loads of fun.

Shame to see you go, CMDR. The game has some serious flaws, IMO, but every game has such flaws. What you hope is that the people who develop the game listen and try to improve the game. I believe FDev does that. Hopefully, you'll return soon feeling ready to take on the game again. Keep in mind some of the great advice given in this thread.

Oh, and for the record, I've never hit a star, but I've come mighty close in a T9. Dear gods, that thing flies like a concrete block covered in molasses.

Apparently there's a version of KSP especially for "educational purposes".

What isn't widely understood is that it's intended purpose is to teach kids about the bitterness of failure and the harshness of life.

What's that? You spent a month designing, building and testing a spaceship, it took a year to fly it to Duna and then the solar panel got damaged so you had no power to start the engines for a deceleration burn and your ship cratered into the surface?
Learn from your mistakes and do it better next time.
