I'm new, so let's keep the grief to a minimum

My question, slash discussion, is this; why is the Type-7 a large ship? Python is medium?

I see, thank you.

T7: Dimensions 81.6m x 56.1m x 25.4m
Python: Dimensions 87.9L - 58.1W - 18.0H

That's from wiki. So about 7.4 meters to be precise but I haven't got out there with a tape measure yet.:D

Follow up question : why does height matter on a landing pad? Is it the inner hanger Bay?
I wasn't asking about the comparison of the two ships height (half a meter), I was referring to the LIMIT Height to be considered medium.

That's a pretty solid first post, OP. The truth is, like why do I shiver when I pee, no one really knows.

People have pondered this one through the ages.

Yeah it's the roof clearance in the bay. If you think about it in real life terms, Lakon dropped the ball a bit there. Think about how many vehicles are made to a certain size just to fit in certain car parks or under low bridges. But in game terms, that's what you get for a cheaper ship.

Look up next time you dock, in the hanger. Just a guess; not going to goggle ship stats for this; but at a guess, I would say the large hangers, have higher ceilings.

I get the cheaper price, inconveniences, etc... But why sell the T-7 @ Sothis when it can't fit in the only station for cargo missions for 200Ly? Dev troll?

Unlikely, ships available to buy are generated based on station size, wealth level, economy type, controlling faction and a few other factors. More than likely it was spat out the code and nobody has spotted it before you. But yeah, that's quite a painful catch you have there, at least the T7 has been made lighter than it used to be so going 200ly doesn't take quite as many jumps.

There's always the sell the ship option and go for a sidewinder then self destruct and choose the free sidewinder option for a quick trip back to the starter systems. If you have all your assets all as credits and you can use it as a short-cut home. Probably better just to fly the distance though.

Yep, never made sense. Type-6 is the same BTW - it would fit on a small pad nicely except for the height.

I assume the person who created ship models and the person who created hangar bays didn't agree on height limits beforehand, and at some point it was too late to do significant changes to either. So FDEV made these ships require larger landing pads, putting the Type-7 in a very weird spot in the ship lineup.
