... with flat panels any longer. Even a nice 32" 2560x1440 monitor.
I just flew out to Colonia. I spent the first 7,000 LY in VR. It wasn't fatiguing at all, but I switched to 2D so I could try to keep up with my TV watching. Sure, the graphics were crisp and clear and the FOV was a lot wider (and I could stuff my face). However, the 3D effect was utterly unconvincing. It looked totally flat to me. The worst was maybe the cockpit glass with the sun shining on it looked like a vertical panel, and the suns were just flat discs.
With about 10 jumps to go, I switched back to VR. It looked a little shimmery at first, but being back in 3D was amazing. Setting VR Ultra, then setting super sampling to 1.0 and HMD quality to 1.5 made it look a lot better, and within a few jumps I wasn't missing the crisp and clear graphics, or even the FOV, of the monitor at all. And as an extra bonus, I had to stop shoveling Doritos into my mouth.
