immediate nausea in combat demo, 60fps

Hi all,
i wanted to ask if the combat demo (version 2014.11.26.51787) is the same experience, as current build of ED,
because i was thinking of buying it, but after trying out demo, its a definite no go for me.
but i couldnt setup 75hz refresh rate in the demo, 60hz was maximum.

you can definitely use 75 fps with a competent pc in the regular version.
no nausea.

i heard the combat demo should work fine, so maybe your missing a setup state.

IE: make sure dk2 is in extended mode and setup correctly in the windows resolution/nvidia resolution, etc.
then make sure dk2 is selected in ED gfx menu and then 75 fps

just be sure its setup correctly, cause you WILL see 75 fps if done proper

60 fps would make anyone puke haha

You can't run it at 60, run it at 75. This often happens if in the nvidia control panel, the rift is set as a "TV" and not a "Monitor".

ok, it wasnt in extended mode, now i have 75hz, but still heavy nausea, especially when ship is rotating, tried turning off vsync, no change.
but the graphics is still a bit stuttering, i will try to change observe the change between 60 and 75

Not sure if there is any help for this. Extending the PoV might help...not sure if this is even doable within the rift. Hope you can get it sorted.

system specs?

sound like you are getting judder which is basically the drop from 75 fps to even 72 fps.

you really need quad 3.5+ghz and a gtx 970 for smooth play

VSYNC must be on, your trying to lock in to 75 fps...

ok, you may have to fiddle with windows 8 and also the r280x.

the i5 should be clocked to 4.0 ghz or better

time to start searching this forum...

try shadows on low, and most settings low until you maintain 75 fps lock no nausea and then increase the settings little by little.

also suggest riva tuner + msi afterburner, on screen display and you can see whats happening to your rig during the fps drops...and how far the fps is dropping.

there are many posts about the 280, its barely enough for ED + rift

ok, i turned off everything, lowest settings, its much better, still feel nausea when rotating the ship, but little when just moving forward, when i look around its finally not blurry.
what would help the most to get better graphics settings, hopefully cpu is fine?
or the best, if im buying i will buy whats needed for maximum except aa

thats a tough call, there are too many variables.

make sure your all up to date, gfx, windows, etc.

without knowing your fps and what happening its tough to diagnose. id want to know how much usage your GPU is/cpu usage/fps drop amount, etc

could all be found with an On screen display.

maybe its simply the 280x? its about on par with a gtx 960 and that is barely smooth in game.

i keep my cpu's over 4ghz, always helps in games and over clock your gpu as much as possible.
you should get more smooth and maybe even turn up the gfx.

rivatuner is just a program to stream the info from say msi afterburner to your screen, but dk2 is no ordinary screen so you need some OSD that can be moved/adjusted

Nausea is much more likely to set in while you're manipulating the game menus. You might find it mysteriously goes away, as I did - it coincides with when you get your graphics and control settings finalized and stop using the escape menu. There can also be small judder issues that are hard to see, you can detect these in the galaxy map. If the blue jump range indicators are vibrating you might have this problem. This just started happening for me recently, haven't fixed it yet.

well fps drops to around 65 when i enable quality textures, and effects like shadows, gpu load 90%, cpu load around 40%
i guess i will wait for new radeons. in the meantime i will try on lowest settings steady 75fps, but even then i still feel some nausea.

thanks for help guys

I'm able to main 75fps in most cases (except RES sites) and experienced motion sickness at first. My senses eventually got use to it. But the first time I entered a station and rolled 360 to align myself inside the station I felt vertigo. I also get the vertigo sensation if I go to external camera mode inside a station and zoom around the ship on the landing pad. I guess my brain is saying it can't believe I'm flying around the ship or something. I eventually got use to it and no longer get motion sickness playing ED (thank goodness). The first time I tried the roller coaster demo with the rift I got really sick. Sick as in having to lie down and close my eyes for a few hours sick. I maintain 75fps easily on the coaster demo (2x980s) so it was just my brain's reaction to the visuals. I get sick on real roller coasters so the visual sensation in the rift was good enough to trick my brain or something. if you are able to maintain 75fps and still get a bit motion sickness, you may just need to get use to it. When you feel sick, take off the rift and rest a few hours. Otherwise your brain may associated motion sickness with the rift.

! My 7970 runs on high no problem! My advise try the older drivers and use DVI

I'm curious as to how much nausea is caused by poor set-up or inadequate PC performance, and how much is actually motion sickness induced by the motion and depth perception. The latter could be argued as a normal physiological reaction to what you're observing, without the secondary sense of your inner-ears confirming it to your brain.

I often get a little motion sick or a touch of vertigo in ED, (especially when flying through the letterbox into the stations), but it "feels" right for me to do so.

the fact that he is showing his FPS drops = hardware/setup

if he was locking 74-75 fps and still getting nausea, then i would say it is human condition
Some are more prone to vr sickness than others.

I can drink all day and night while in the dk2 and not even feel sick, im very happy about that lol
that being said, it does take time for your body to adjust to dk2/vr
