I think that's a limitation of the upgrade system which is really too basic for a game with this level. It should have been done so that you had a variety of manufacturers that made different upgrades, with pros and cons to each in quality, capability, price, and availability.
Instead, we have this slot based class/grade system with a simplistic diminishing returns scale of cost and capability. With a system like that, it would never really be very varied even if they further gimped other ships from maxing out; players will always find the ideal combination for a specific application.
3 Medium () hardpoints, 4 Utility.
277(base?) speed.
~7.8 LY jump range with (I assume) an E FSD. This (with the size I assume) means it jumps a little shorter than the Vulture, though the weapons won't be as heavy overall so may go further.
Well, the p-dist is the telling equipment.

Personally hoping it's a 2mil - 12mil ship...
Sounds fine to meAnyone more savvy in these things able to work out how effective 3 Medium Hardpoints vs the 2 Small and 2 Medium of a Viper would be for light combat?
It will be better against medium and large ships because the damage penalty is less severe on top of doing a little more damage than the viper would. But at the rank of master to get in one you will already be in a vulture soooo yeah.Sounds fine to meAnyone more savvy in these things able to work out how effective 3 Medium Hardpoints vs the 2 Small and 2 Medium of a Viper would be for light combat?

the other thing we don't know about yet is what kind of power plant can it equip? It might be alright if it has the power to really use all of those utility mounts. It could be a tanky little thing if there's the power and the base shield to warrant it.
tbh I'm kind of disappointed with this reveal, I was hoping this would be an imperial answer to the vulture instead it's a stepping stone to one..

Another ship to buy, fly 30 minutes and then park forever. Very disappointed. If they introduce these cheap ships at least give them some flavor. I fully expected this Courier to be a light ship with the only unique attribute to be its long range.
1 medium is better than 2 small, because the damage is the same but the medium waist less energy = you can shoot longer ...so yea, 3 medium is a little better than 2 med 2 small
If we go by the hardpoint rule of 1.6 more damage each size up, we total up:
Viper 5.2
Courier 4.8
Vulture 5.12 (smaller than Viper!)
In reality, the Power Distributor is the important component though, and the smaller hardpoints are penalised against medium and large hulls.
Well, I would be in a Vulture if I liked the Vulture. Tried it for a bit, and then went back to my Viper as I just didn't get on with the Vulture for some reason...
