News Implementation of a dedicated mission server

lol, ok, all good points, however...

Those mission NPC's represent the competing factions in any given station, and they do have access to massive freight haulage companies, who are already taking the freight. What's left is offered to us based on our reputation with that faction and our mission level. Mostly Harmless blow-ins that nobody has ever seen before get the dregs, highly reliable allied Elite pilots with the fastest engineered ships in the bubble get, or should get first refusal on all the highest paying top priority cream, or why did I bother leveling up and proving my reliability?

You're welcome to haul the dregs if you prefer them, CMDR.

Prefer? Meh, I take what's on offer... and I accept my insignificance, within a galactic system with trillions upon trillions of people. No matter how you dress it up, we're all left with the scraps that multi-system corporations overlooked, don't care about, or left for small organisation/independent. I do agree that as a (nearly) elite trader with allies in multiple systems, my scraps are better than the early career dregs I started with, but in the grand scheme... still scraps.

You aren't suppose to feel up ship with one board.

Okay, what am I supposed to do with my Beluga then? Fly around at 20% capacity, making it basically a pointless Dolphin? Or wait for a couple of hours to fill it up 'organically'? Both are terrible. A beluga should be able to be filled at one station, at least if its a densely populated one. The very notion of the ship demands it.

It isn't announced, but only Q2 and Q3 were indicated as not having betas. Q4 with all big sweeping changes will definitely have one.

Can you please, and I hate to ask you again, stop saying 'definitely' when you mean 'I guess'? Please? You keep loudly proclaiming things with great confidence based on nothing. You dont know if there will be a beta, you have little experience with large ship gameplay, you dont need to comment on how much better ED is than other space games you never played at all. Just stop it.

10% on payoffs does not compensate for board switching - which I usually do not for credits, but to simply find any interesting or suitable missions amongst the dreck.

Rather than tinkering at the edges (10%), why don't you address the dearth of good interesting missions by adding more variety?

I think pretty much everyone agrees with this. I can only assume it is not as easy as it may seem to have the mission board filled to the limits of the server (higher numbers and it crashes, as the 3.0 beta showed), consistent with the BGS, while still offering a lot of variety.

Dear FD - I haven't read the 40 pages of this thread lol

I'm very pleased you're flipping the finger to board flipping.

But please make sure there are plenty of missions to choose from. I don't see why we can not have a sufficiently rich mission list that board flipping would have been unnecessary anyway.

Looking forward to 3.3 and the new era :)

Thanks for your efforts.

Okay better Mission Board Services, with less load time. +1. Higher Payout +1. Do it!

Could you clarify a few points though:
  • When does the mission board will refresh, after being cleared out by us?
  • Does this change affect passanger lounge?

Last but not least a few ideas, how to utilize a new dedicated Mission Server:
  • Increase the number of missions on a board and ensure, that every mission type has representation.
  • Make a mission board for the whole faction. So I might see Missions taken on in other system, that are controlled by the faction.
  • The mission board should be persistent, if you switch ships, to be able to take on missions/better prepare.

Just going to point out (as I have in a few other thread recently) that for the people who say FDEv never read the forums, or never read player feedback, Dominic was reading this thread when I looked at it earlier and he either still is, or he's come back to it. Devs might not post on the forums a great deal but they're frequently seen spending considerable amounts of time reading them, including at times which are clearly not part of the working day.

Note to Dom - don't worry I'm not stalking you :D It's just that the orange user names catch the eye when you scroll to the last post of a thread and notice them in the thread information box.

I don't know, I think we need to get some more people in here that clearly state they haven't read the thread then clearly state a point that's been made ad nauseum already.

There will obviously be a "Refresh Board" button added to the UI, anything less than that would be idiocy.

Probably. Hopefully they'll sort out Passenger Missions, like they said they would after the Smeaton Nerf.

DISCLAIMER: You should not expect either of these two things.

I don't think there will be, look at the bullet points in the OP.

This does not seem to be much of a change, missions are not being revamped (at this time).

Primary reason seems to be to push mission generation into a dedicated service, to make everything a bit more resilient (and hopefully quicker).

Secondary reason being to unify solo/open mission boards.

That's really about it for now I think.

I spose it is possible, if it's quicker, it could generate significantly more missions to choose from. Don't think we'll get a "refresh" though, just maybe a larger selection.

Please god no refresh buttons. That would just be rubbish. A choice of material reward on the other hand could be good though.
