News Implementation of a dedicated mission server

You're not a newbie on ED, you know that something is very strange about their trowing this numbers away - i'ts like they are looking for support to a CHANGE that is NOT POPULAR.
If you expect their doing a pool about this matter, knowing that people will vote against the changes you are a dreamer.

Their are looking exactly for suport, its like teir are asking for *some* people " Hey dudes, come and fight for this " And don't get me wrong, they are only changing this because i'ts a SIDE effect that they can't prevent.

That's just like your opinion man.

There are also a lot of people who like this change. Just read this thread.

And now just imagine that a large amount of players don't even participate on this forums because the haters.

I really doubt about this, cause every "GOLD RUSH" alot of people come to the same system and i barelly have some trouble with disconnection or any another server issue.
I have much more adjucation server problems on Combat zones than problems in the station, and my connection really sucks - so imagine if i have a better one,

This is even true with the PS4, I didn't have any more connection problems during the gold rushes than at any other time to be honest. We on consoles did have an issue where the boards got really, really slow but it was not due to gold rushes it was post a patch when the mission boards gave lots of missions (which was good, but ended up crippling performance), so they got reduced again.

Hopefully one benefit longer term will be this dedicated server allows for more missions to be offered but it seems that won't happen straight away.

The middle ground, and likely the most common opinion, however, is that this change is positive IF they also address the issues caused by it. Which right now they are refusing to do.

ALot?

Even who that support have a IF.
IF There are more misisons.
IF they addres the issue that makes people flip.
IF we get a better mission system.

Note: Just because i don't support this changes like they are proposed this don't turn me on a "HATER" - Im just not dumb to support another change that will make EVEN more people leave the game.

Again, mine opinion??? Just read this thread.

And now just imagine that a large ammount of players don't even participate on this foruns because the fanboys.

All I'm saying is that you cannot use 1700 people's opinion as a indicator of what the "community" wants, when the "community" is 2.5 million players or however many copies of Elite were sold up to date.

Got it sir =)

Sadly i have the impression that we will NEVER have the feedback from those 2.5 Milion copies.

What we know are: 11.000 People are on the gnosis when the event happened, that is a record on a event, sadly we dont know the REAL avarage daily users, the best we can do are use the steamcharts.

Taking only the real average daily users' opinion would not be fair either, as there may be people that don't actively play because they are waiting for more expanded version of the game, having a break etc. Ignoring their opinion wouldn't be fair.

Anyway, I think I've said all I had to say in this conversation now.

Again, i am repeating myself but stopping board flipping is great. But you must fix the root cause of it. And based on FD server, it won t be the case.

Yes you can :). With 95 % confidence level and confidence interval 2.5 you need a sample size of 1536.

In other words 1700 is statistically quite relevant.

That being said I also think FD is dropping the ball here. They should FIRST fix the mission system so board hopping isn't necessary anymore. After that fix the "issue" of board hopping.

Here is what will happen upon release:

1. BGS players find the board empty, and re-adjust to the new reality, and return to exploration data, bounty hunting, possibly even trade. BGS play without board flipping in most systems is impossible. If I have the time to do 20-30 missions, I am not going to instead do 2, then return to port, and do another 2 in the same time it took to flip and do 20 before. I'll go make 2 hours of explo jumps instead. If the faction owns no assets, it may become more effective to push a little to get a faction into conflict, then push it up through combat bonds. Point being: don't give missions for my faction? Then no missions will be run for the BGS, and other approaches would be found. Too bad about that influence option in rewards, though...

2. Passenger mission running will practically die out completely, or become Dolphin taxis, as it would take several hours to find enough passengers to fill a Beluga, Orca or Anaconda passenger ship

3. Rank grinders, engineer material grinders, etc. many who may not yet have a forum account will sign up and cause the biggest storm on the forum since... eh.. the Gnosis event.

4. Reduced daily active users, as frustrated CMDRs decide to go play something else.

This prediction feels very probable to me.

We don't even need to wait for the changes to know that this will happen.

Some reasons:

Fill a Beluga/Conda i'ts already a challenge. (With boardflip)

Finding the mission that reward you want i'ts already time demanding too, last night i've spend hours looking for biotech conductors. (and Yeah, i've boardflliped alot)

Note, I'm NOT trying to stir the pot here, I just think you might have a better chance of finding the answer to this quickly than me.

If I recall correctly when they did the official survey/poll regarding ship transfers they did actually tell us how many people voted - is that info still on the forum anywhere (can't remember if it was Sandy or one of the community managers who made the actual post) and if it can be found, how many people was it? I have something like 40K in my mind but I could be dreaming that up, it was a while ago obviously.

My vote is AGAINST removing board flipping unless its replaced with a system that allows the player to refresh the missions in the board at will; preferably with the ability to specify what type of missions the player wants to play.

Can't remember that either. I remember the results were more or less 50-50 though.

:EDIT:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/288348-Transfer-Poll-Results

About 39,000 CMDRs voted in the ship transfer poll - and it was 70:30 (in favour of delayed). (Thanks Robert! :D )

Board Flipping is one thing in ED that can alleviate some of the grind. Without changes to how the missions are offered (i.e., let us request what type of mission and what rewards we want), this will be FD's way to ensure missions are a grind. :(

We get to vote? If only. [big grin]

Why though? It'd be much better if they added "Credit my Zaonce Bank account with a billion Credits". That way you're saving the time on having to do the actual mission.

Or better, just give us 10 billion Cr each and all of the ships with all of the modules straight away. Who needs gameplay anyway?

"Gameplay" = Wait the board refresh and pray to the gods of RNG to something usefull pop up?
