Nothing is impossible, overall.

With that said there are things impossible for the human mind to understand.

Having being asked at work to do something which is literally impossible, I can assure you there are absolutely things that are impossible.

Here was the situation.

2 groups of people talking about a single thing.

Group 1 say it must work in way A and not way B.

Group 2 say it must work in way B and not way A.

I was asked (well demanded is more accurate!) by someone else to deliver 100% of what group 1 was asking for and 100% of what group 2 was asking for. Bang, logical paradox which is impossible to resolve within the constraints set.

Anyway, generally speaking, when it comes to impossibilities there are different categories.

1. Things that are logical impossibilities like the examples above. These are basically pure impossibilities.

Counting to infinity is also one of those.

2. Things that aren’t logical impossibilities but are impossible due to fundamental natural constraints. An example would be something like making a pile of sand with, say, Graham’s number of grains, because Graham’s number is so much bigger than the total number of elementary particles in the entire universe that it’s mind boggling, as would be the amount of energy needed, and the amount of space needed.

Just counting to Graham’s number is also one of these.

From there, there’s basically a descending order of how strict the impossibility is.

- Things that aren’t currently theoretically possible but which don’t fall into the first two

- Things that current theory allows for in principle but not in reality

- Things that are theoretically possible but are beyond our current technology

- Things that are possible but so impractical currently that they are effectively impossible

- Things that are possible and should be doable but which in practice will never happen

As an example, the Alcubierre warp drive is theoretically possible, but is dependent on hypothetical exotic matter with negative mass, which to the best of our current knowledge does not exist (and in reality may well genuinely not exist.)

Long story short - ‘impossible’ is a loosely used term. Certainly by journalists!

Anyway, as a bit of a thought provoker, when you say that there are things which it’s impossible for the human mind to understand, what do you actually mean by ‘impossible’? 😀

Science has all the answers until it doesn't. Imagine that.
Science isn’t about having all the answers now. It’s about continually improving the answers. New discoveries lead to either better answers or better confirmation of current answers.

Finding something which is outside the bounds of current answers is great science and great for science. It’s one way in which progress happens.

That's click bait.

The object, is only theoretically impossible.

Humans theories about such things as Black Holes, are as about as advanced. As an average a five year old's, theories on DNA structures.
