Infinity Battlescape

I'm more excited over the fact that 100 players can fight each other without lag and player limit of 32, Also matchmaking isn't an issue ;)

It's a tech demo remember, I'll put stock in those claims when its a reality.

No but it's true, you can warp anywhere without breaks in gameplay, it's up-ended elite's server architecture, this is why i was mentioning Planetside 2's seamless matchmaking of thousand of people on one map, their servers support around 800 players in one island, however you don't need to enter/exit Supercruise to re-connect to new players, it's all seamless.

Saying this prototype can support up to 100 players in one island is very doable considering it's not even optimised. Remember, PS2 can support 800 people in one "zone"

on their kickstarter backer comments section, the devs said they'll be releasing a demonstration of the 100 virtual players in action.

Yeah, again. All well and good but I will be reserving final judgement for when the game is released and I can evaluate it based on what the game is. It's impressive tech, I hope they can improve the visual fidelity.

Cool. He's a little bit too impressed by seamless transition, it's been done already in other games. Namely Evochron Mercenary, which also has Newtonian flight along with the seamless planetary landing. I'll forget about this but hopefully it goes somewhere so I can remember to check it out again. ;)

I think what he is impressed with, is a seamless access to everything in the system. And it is impressive. From space, to the planet surface, to the rings, to the station..to the next planet..seamless. The scale of the planets is impressive as well.

I can see my system struggling with all that prettiness. Makes me shudder to what we can expect from ED having seen that, I hope they can match or come close. :)

We are in a new age. A virtual space age. If a handful of people can accomplish this in their spare time, then it's only going to get better once companies like a Frontier have paved the way and proven what is possible. A time will come when both ED and Infinity look the way that the original Elite does to us today. It's a good time be alive!!!

My wallet weeps...

Wow, that looks really REALLy impressive... How many people are working on that again?

Its a small team mostly spread out around the world.

I'm glad you think so, But not done like this seamless transition. Each game has its take on this, and I hope ED will eventually give us great atmospheric transitioning. it's a little too early to know about Star Citizen, that's a good 3 or more years away. With the current Infinity:Battlescape It's only a prototype, with two years more development time, it can be so much more.

Infinity:Battlescape FAQ link

The current 2015 kickstarter prototype which is available to the media and streamers is a small snap shot of a planet/s, its rings and a derelict space station. @ 1:1 scale. So it takes time to reach places. Space is really big.

There will be additional effects for both warp speed and for atmospheric entry, and it IS dangerous to be going warp speeds in the atmosphere for too long, though it seems also as if auto-assist will automatically turn off your warp drive before you take damage from the atmosphere.

And the dev's have some ideas for gas giants such as putting Bespin style floating factories in the cloud layers of gas giants. transition down and up from these places. With Gravity and pressure effecting the ships. The effects we expect to see and experience after two more years of development. "We'd like to spend a lot more time making gas giants awesome" -game devs.

A video of transitioning from space, out by the planetary rings, flying through the rings and pretty much belly flops right onto the planet's surface. Remember the prototype your seeing here has a lot of place holder assets and effects. It will become so much more.

And another transitioning from a planetary surface dogfight over a mountain range right up through the atmosphere into space. And then into warp to escape the enemy fire.

The prototype we see is using a lot of place holder assets and with little or real transitioning effects (like heating etc). with two more years of development and 4K detail it should be worth the wait. As is the wait for Elite's own version of planetary transitioning.

Space to surface seamless transition.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think planets in Evochron Mercenary are really tiny, while in Infinity we are looking at realistic size planets.

Regarding the statement about hundreds of players that the server should be able to handle in one area (word "instance" is not very apropriate because Infinity is aiming for fully seamless experience), that's another thing they should try to show. Flavien said they've been running simulations before, so I suppose it might be possible to wrap up a demo for KS.

Looks great, however SC was the arrow to my KS knee, I'd buy it when its ready for release.

Regarding ED and IBS, yes they both use PG, however they will use it in different ways. So it will be interesting to see how they both will approach the issues.
Competition is good, FD need to be on their toe's so if IBS can snap them in the butt once a while that is only good :)

I wish them good luck with the project.

I remember when this game was first in development many years ago, I kept going back every few years and then nothing for a long time, seems they have change the name from infinity quest for earth, I played the battle demo years ago was fun but nothing else ever came from it and it just died off, I went back a year ago I think or less but I only saw adverts for him selling the engine, then I gave up even thinking about the game (shame) well its good to see he is trying again but I won't pledge anything, also I fear they have missed the boat with elite and SC coming out.

I hope elite has seamless transition on horizons we all know it can be done, fingers crossed the guy gets enough money to finish the game.

I wouldn't say tiny. But yes your right, they're not like the ones in IB here. However, what an achievement EM is for a 'one man' made game. The planets are o.k. size wise and sort of fit with the game well. Its just very underestimated EM, its a really good game.

To tell the truth, when it comes to business part of this story Flavien was pretty confused in the past years. To me, it looked like he had great tech growing in his hands but he wasn't sure what to do with it: ICP, IQFTE, early contemplations about kickstarter and direct community pledges, engine licencing, search for big private investor... he was all over the place. Looking from this point, one can tell that he made hell a lot of mistakes. Six or more years ago ED, SC, NMS... did not exist in any shape or form. Market was empty and starving for that kind of game. If only Flavien felt confident enough and launched KS in those times, he could have made a fortune by now and -I dare to say- we would enjoy much better version of ED. Or EVE, perhaps.

But it's all history. We are where we are and I am so glad that he got this thing finally rolling.
