Infinity Battlescape

The indie developer I-Novae studios will do a kickstarter for their space sim Infinity Battlescape. Their game also uses procedural generation with full planets and seamless landing.

Their old tech-demo videos are pretty, but they're not professional game developers like Frontier. I-Novae lacks experience and financial clout to make a space sim.

Elite Dangerous is much further in development and we saw during the beta and updates that it's difficult to build a great space sim.

Frontier has the upper-hand so they should release the Planetary Expansion before Infinity Battlescape comes out. Then Infinity stays behind Elite and won't be as impressive.

See the Rough Draft for Kickstarter Rewards.

Update on the status of the Kickstarter.

Oh! I've followed this for quite a while (several years). It's nice to see that something finally seems to be happening with Infinity.
Sadly, I think they're a bit late. 30 months ago would have been a great time for a kickstarter. Now: not so much. They have both ED, SC, Starfighter Inc., and No man's sky to compete against. I certainly hope they do well though!

I agree. I was excited a few years ago when I first heard about Infinity, but time has moved on and I feel they have missed their opportunity.

Thanks for the heads up.

I also think that, unfortunately, they missed their chance. They had gem in their hands five (or more) years ago when ED, SC, No man's sky, Eve Valkyrie, Rogue System etc were nowhere to be seen, but Flavien's hesitance cost him quite a lot.

That being said, I am going to pledge 50 bucks because I remember how excited I used to be about IQFE. Perhaps they still can do something about it. Battlescape alone is not something I am overly interested in, but it may be a stepping stone towards the big thing.

Looks good, reminds me a little of Evochron Merc, only the planets here look better. Still I wish them luck.
Problem is there are soo many space games coming out or already out now that backers may be hard top find, given the choice.

Yeah there is really lot of them.
But very few are finished and even fever are any good.

I have burned my fingers too many times now.

Right now am looking forward to pretty much 3 games:

Infinity Battlescape - why? Because they shown proof years ago that they can do what other cant.
Back then there was no SC nor ED.
But even to this day there are only very few, who can do seamless planetary transitions on such scale.
Funnily enough its neither of the big players ..... ;) ..... that kinda tells you something.

Are they making game i want - no, it is a stepping stone to it. But stepping stone with planet to space flight. :)
If there is giant potential somewhere - it is here.

Enemy Starfighter - why? That fast paced adrenaline ride noone is capable of delivering. It just reminds me of freespace
I expect that fast action not much else.

Rogue System - Come on its DCS in space :) but really i need to see bit more before he gets my money.... so far it looks like interesting concept.

Still waiting for these guys kickstarter. I'm personally hoping the option to get access to the engine is not unreasonable, two gaming ideas that would fit this engine perfectly. The screenshots look pretty good for and Alpha stage game engine. An I like the way they have a team and it isn't a one man band like many others. We aren't just counting on one person staying sane throughout the game development.

The thing is Frontier has been developing games for decades. The guys behind Infinity lack that experience. I think we'll have the Planetary Expansion long before Infinity Battlescape is released.

That looks great. I'm sure those planetary graphics can be done in Elite Dangerous as well. Perhaps even better, because Frontier has a bigger budget and team. The tricky part is adding interesting gameplay and features on planets.

Perhaps, perhaps not.....
I trust my own eyes and ... frontier with ED have yet to show something.... anything actually.
With that experience its not that hot either. Programing few space games until 95 ...
David and few others ok.
But if rest of the team was doing mostly tycoon games for the last 15 years..... That doesn't give them that much of an edge over Inovae.

We'll see.

I would love to be so sure myself ....but there is talk and there is proof.
I choose the proof.

I agree with you on this.
We have yet to see some gameplay from Inovae.
Hopefully soon.
And i hope they will have success in their Kickstarter campaign.
I will definitely help them.

In ideal world all of em could work together. (modding would ensure everyone's happiness)
Oh well.

Frontier developed and released dozens of big budget games. Inovae released nothing major yet.

I choose the proof.

Other games and simulators like Space Engine have done that. Elite was the first procedural generated open world space sim. Frontier has enough funds, experience and expertise to develop those features and make it better.

New blog post on Indie DB

Obviously we are getting close to KS launch. Since Inovae is gradually appearing on different websites.
