News Info on Beta and access

Hi HypoThermia, we may have to disagree.... ;)

It's a shame it took all the way from the beginning of the Kickstarter until Newsletter #18 on the 1st April to let people know goalposts were going to shift at the last minute.

There is *no doubt* that prior to NL#18, people in alpha & beta thought that 1st round beta people would be joining alphans at the *very beginning* of the beta phase, with 2nd round beta people coming in a short time later.

That is after all what was implicit in all the wording on Kickstarter, in the subsequent stores and indeed on these forums.

There is also *no doubt* why there is an 'exclusive access period':LINK.

People who backed the game to join beta testing should get exactly that, on time, for better or worse, and not modules that have been already tested for two weeks.

Meh. Consider it Alpha 4.1 or Alpha 5 leading to the Beta; Frontier would be well served to just adopt this simple distinction.

This whole discussion is a play on words and a fine dissection of semantics. Alpha supporters get first access rights to every single update, as in the definition of Alpha meaning first.

I am sure Frontier are as bewildered by this thread as I am.

...OMG. Is this all about alphas getting a look at the beta two weeks early?

I can't believe this has caused such a fuss. Spend some time as a backer for most other games and learn what the true meaning of being jerked around is all about. This doesn't even figure on that scale.

For the record I'm a premium beta backer and I dont mind at all.

That's not right. It doesn't mean "first" in the context you put it in. An alpha version is a common step in (proper) software development cycles.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Alpha

Hmm...

Just want to point out that this is the very first sentence (pun intended :D) of the very text you linked to:

The alpha phase of the release life cycle is the first phase to begin software testing (alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, used as the number 1).

:p

Its All About The Software Development Cycle...

Just to chime in my two cents on this thread as a systems engineer... working with the development team on a software project, the "Alpha" environment is the first environment the engineers deploy the software into for testing. This goes for any subsequent updates to the software.

The remaining environments are there when the software "graduates" into maturity. In order for software to go from an "Alpha" state to a "Beta" state it has to pass certain standards set by the Engineering, Dev and QA Testing teams.

What people are calling "Gamma" for this game is likened unto what is often called the "Qual" environment during internal software development. This simulates all (or as many possible) the conditions that would be experienced if the software was deployed into a "live" environment. So Alpha testers are just that, they get to test the first output of what the developers have just added. Any testers after this are further down the line...

Hi.

I have a question.
I backed for 100GBP on the kickstarter elite website ,october 2013, and it is still showing original backers app.

Why is'nt this money transfered to the new store system? does this mean, when I want to play the premium beta this friday, I have to purchase the game again?

what will happen to the backer funds, as this is not clear to me. (store.zaonce.net/storecredit/info/ -->Balance: Your current balance is: £0.00)

so, what do I need to do?

Thanks.

Hi.

everything should be ok, but if you email support@zaonce.net they can confirm the details for you.

Differences between the original backers app and the new store

When the Kickstarter was running and until it closed in December 2013 the original backers app covered your pledge level and listed the associated rewards you had earned for backing during the Kickstarter campaign.

With the new store you are now only seeing your original pledge level, all the rewards are still stored in the original backers app with Frontier keeping records on your rewards and pledges.

As the rewards are no longer available to backers they can only back the game not receive the rewards that were offered during the Kickstarter.

As mentioned before the Kickstater rewards are still there in the original app and FD know what you are entitled to.

We hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask around or search the forum to see if it's been discussed before. If there's any info you think should be added let us know and we will look at it. :D

Thank you for your answer.
I did check the FAQ, and there it is explained that under account --> orders you should find the products you backed for (In my case, Elite Beta premium)/. However, i don't find anything at this moment, and the store credits are also at £0.00. (which is kinda strange)
I will contact support@zaonce.net

No problem

1st Post updated with info on Premium Beta.

Can we get a definite answer regarding the requirements (are they minimum or recommended?) and what is the cost to buy the beta right now (31 July)?

The final requirements aren't set in stone yet, as Frontier will continue to improve the game engine, so any answer will be invalid at release.

Price of beta... Check out the Frontier website, there you will find all the info you need.

I have a question

If I buy the Beta now, will I have to buy the full game again?
If I dont buy the Beta, How much will I have to pay for the full game?
