While I perfectly understand the reasoning, I actually believe that it's too cluttered for a commercial/corporate logo: To my eyes, having both the "angel wings" and the "tesla rings" on the arm of the "F" at cap height is a bit too much flourish; and the C arm should be broken either on both sides or not at all. (Right now, fast reading results in "Fleet Fomm" and the question why there's an L to the left.) It doesn't really have a single line of balance (neither in symmetry nor in weight), which is something a commercial logo always benefits from.
Not trying to dismiss it; I just think that it could use some polishing.![]()
That's a very good remark, and tbh this was one of the issues. On the hand made sketches, the C was clearer, but I opted for a denser look.
How would y'all feel about something more like this? Planet and rocket in gradient blue, the rest in orange, on the bottom right, other radio bolts, or a satellite dish, etc.
I honestly think this needs more work, and the color scheme re-thought. Late 80's-early 90's style graphical design in 3302, just not feeling itI'll abstain from voting since I'm afraid I just equally dislike all of them.
Fleet Lomm ?
Love all your posters'n'stuff, Qohen, as you know
but I also wasnt able to vote for any of that as they are too similar and some kind of ...dont know... unready!?
Why not ask for some more artists and their ideas to get more input, like the dwe logo competition?
Sry if I sounded too demure...wasnt ment that way.I didn't make the rules...
I'm afraid what you think 'unready' is caused by the expectation of something similar to a patch. Which it cannot and isn't meant to be. Then I take constructive criticism, but I have to say (not looking at you particularly, just writing my thoughts) that beyond 'don't like it', 'unfinished', there's nothing useful here. Again-again-again, I'm not a pro, I learn as I go...
That being said, again, I agree to the C/L confusion. Scheduled to change, don't worry!

Haha. Poll closes on 18th of April, that's my birthday![]()
I take your opinion into account, but your comment is irrelevant to me. Can you foresee color schemes in 3302? To my knowledge, styles come and go again and again, and colors will stay the same. Using a more techy-industrial-grey-syfy look doesn't look futuristic or modern to me, just unimaginative, classic and naive.
Would be nice to have an option where the curve looks more like the silhouette of a radar dish. I have no graphical skills so can't even mock anything up, just thinking out loud.
Except I never suggested techy industrial grey syfy look in the first place. Look at the Distant Worlds logo.. it's simple and has a color scheme that works great against virtually any backgound, while (subjectively, of course) looking great. Yes, styles come and go but the main methodology of design - something I could talk about at length given it's my profession, but I'll spare you - does not. The 5 solutions shown here are all very similar and thus share similar problems - the concise criticism would be that they are too complex and do not work in different situations too well, as complex identities usually do not (scaling for different applications and color backgrounds).
The DW logo also isn't exactly modern by today's graphical design standards, but it's for a sci fi game and it uses a recognizable style reminiscent of old NASA mission patches, so it's topical, while at the same time remaining simple, concise, and to the point. As a result, if you showed the DW logo to a child who's never seen it before for 2 seconds, and then asked that child to draw it the next day, the child could probably reproduce it accurately enough to be recognizable. I doubt the same could be said for the 5 solutions shown here. Note that this does not mean I'm suggesting a solution literally similar in appearance to the DW logo - just one that works equally well for what it's supposed to be.
I hope this was a bit more relevant. I honestly just want to see you get the feedback you need so you can come up with better solutions. Apologies if that came across as crass, in my line of work I'm just used to being brutally honest as, tbh, my colleagues and myself are well beyond getting insulted and just take negative feedback as equally or sometimes more useful than positive one and an important tool in the design process.
I also think a satellite dish would be good. Short of grav lensing, I don't see focusing arrays going away in terms of directed communications.
