The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Here's an update for the Apollo 11 Expedition in the Expedition Hub.
We are at over 300 sign ups now. Also the Discord is the 'Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Expedition' or 'A11X' if you need a shorter name :)

This is good to know, but it's not relevant information to the Galactic Mapping Project. If you need to correct the expedition information on EDSM (which is a large thing which GMP is a part of), then please contact Anthor via EDSM discord - you can find the link at the bottom of https://www.edsm.net/

Sorry for my mistake: it was Bloody Haze nebula. Still the section about molluscs can be added into the POI description

How about a 6.2 Earth mass water world? It has six moons. Unfortunately, it isn't much to look at. Lots of jumponium in system, though, fwiw.

Err, doesn't the thread title say "Galactic Mapping Project & Expedition Hub" ?
Yanick's request is referring to post #3

The top of the thread still holds this info but is being rapidly outdated by EDSM's built-in expedition feature: https://www.edsm.net/en/expeditions

That's the best way to update expedition information, as we're so behind on GMP posts that I can't guarantee expedition information sent to this thread will get handled.

Edit: I realize that this is probably a change that could have been better announced, so I'm not trying to discourage anyone. It's just, like, a lot of work to keep up on this thing.
Edit 2: This is mostly my opinion because we haven't officially changed anything. With DW2 winding down I'm hoping the rest of the GMP team will be able to lend a hand here again.

Hi, I found a system that holds 1 ELW, 1 AW, 1 WW and 1 terraformable WW. The system has no other special features, so apart of having one of each of the "valuable" worlds nothing special about it. I wouldn't even have a good name for it. I guess not so common, but also probably not POI material. Correct?

Partial Map Update, #3623-#3674 (The 'Final Exams Are Finally Over' edition)

Note to submitters: Please check to see if your submission name is similar to existing POI names.

Added:

  • post #3624 / The Forge of Hephaestus
  • post #3674 / Nye's Bowtie - POI Name was similar to 'Stellar Bowtie' so this was added as "Nye's Bowtie" after Bill Nye's famous bowtie habit
  • post #3851 / Storyteller's Fire (special submission)
Not Added:

  • post #3626 - we already have a POI called "Titan's Rest" which is too similar to "Titan's Graveyard". Resubmission with a different name would help.
  • posts #3630, #3631, #3635, #3638, #3644, #3646, #3665, #3666, #3667
  • post #3634 - would like to add but 'Chraitaea QP-F B34-0' is not a valid system name
Updated:

* post #3614 - Galileo's Fishbowl - now added

[Edit: added link to complete POI list]

Regarding Post #3634

Looks like It got a capital letter wrong, should have been Chraitaea QP-F b34-0

Link to EDSM page below to make it simple. It appears it is also a green system according to EDSM, which was not something I noticed at the time. Hope you are still able to consider the entry.

https://www.edsm.net/en/system/bodies/id/37841464/name/Chraitaea+QP-F+b43-0

Well, dunno how it is notable and interesting but I came across gas giant with some strange "dusty" atmosphere and quite transparent layer of rings. I cannot remember that I've seen something like this before.

  • post #3719 / SLX 1746-331 (that is one weird system)

Name: The Virulent Nebula
Game map search ref: Dryao Chraei MI-S e4-35
EDSM Link: https://www.edsm.net/en/system/id/36680621/name/Dryao+Chraei+MI-S+e4-35
Description:
A highly and unusually colored red and green Nebula surrounding a black hole with two ringed Y-class Brown Dwarf stars, and 10 Icy & 6 Rocky land-able bodies, in orbit around it. This Nebula is obviously the remnant of the large supernova that left the black hole behind, as, from a distance, it still looks like an explosion in a confetti factory, or a particularly nasty virus, hence the name.
With no central bright star this is a worthy destination ( just north-east of the galactic core and about ~1000 LY above the plane of the ecliptic), for moody views of dark rings against a wildly colored background, or particularly disturbing close ups of the black hole.
This is also a GREEN system for FSD Materials.
Warning: Throttle fully down while still in hyperspace or you will end up hitting the exclusion zone. This won't be too dangerous with good heat performance, but should still be avoided this far from repair services.

#3742 looks really nice, was it not added because of lack of description?

It seems that you also forgot to add info about V821 Arae from this post some time ago:

Can anybody visit Dryau Ausms KG-Y e3390 (The Dryau Awesomes)? It seems that rings are now only 10 km in radius after the update

Name:Not Rayet
Game map search ref:Hypio Gree AA-A h144
Description:An oddity in the galactic core regions, this system features a Wolf-Rayet star that is extremely cold (457K - or 183.9 ºC). It's also emits light in the purple/red spectrum akin to most Y-class dwarfs.

Note: It wasn't my find, CMDR Superloafer shared this on the Fleetcomm discord, and I suggested him to submit it himself, but I don't think he did yet.
Added the sysmap info in full res for people to check it out. Screenshots are from my visit there.
At this date the star still looks like a Y dwarf on the sysmap.

Name:Celestial Vinyl

Description:Planet 2 of this system features a Water World with unusually large icy rings resembling an old vinyl record.

Name:The Rejected Child
Game map search ref:Qosoa AA-A h56
Description:The second planet of this system is a class I gas giant with two sets of rings being the largest one 2.6 million km in outer radius. It also has a peculiar moon system of 5 moons, four of them trapped between rings acting as sheperds. The remaining one is doomed to watch from way outside the outer rings, on an almost perpendicular orbit. Explorers can get a good view of the gas giant, the inner moons and the two rings from the surface.

Yes. Inadequate description, name not explained.

Good catch, will add in next update.
