Intel Core i5-7500 Good enough?

I'm selling the computer I bought because it's too old but I found this other one by the same seller and it has an Intel Core i5-7500. The minimum is a 6600 for PC2. Does it matter that it's not a K processor?

No idea about whether it has to be a K processor -- was wondering that myself. As for this processor... I don't know. According to Intel, it was released in 2017, so it's still pretty old, I'd go for something newer and with more cores if I were you.

It's 4 core, and it's a higher number than the minimum to run PC2, 6600. A newer computer will be more expensive. I didn't want to spend several Ben F's (100 dollar bills) in order to play PC2. And now I had this error with Steam, uninstalled it reinstalled and it's not loading at all on my win 8.1 computer. So I have to wait until I get another computer to play PC1 again. I have a few other computers that are i3 one was my mom's. I either have to sell stuff on ebay or ask my male cousin for permission to get a new computer, he is the administrator on my debit card that I share with my brother. My mom passed 2 years ago and my access to money is restricted. My brother and I are mentally disabled.

The newest processors have 20+ cores!

You've already wasted money on that other system! And if you buy this one and it's also too slow and/or you have to spend a lot to upgrade it, you'll have wasted even more money!

Just wait until you can afford a newer system -- it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, just newer -- something between the minimum and recommended requirements that already has all the right components in it so you don't have to buy anything else and hope it works. It may mean you have to cancel your pre-order, and wait a while to play PC2, but waiting seems like the best option for you so you can get a more recent system.

I'm going to keep the pre-order to get the bonus rides but not install it until I get a decent computer. I put the one I bought on ebay up on ebay to recoup the money back. I had almost $200 from selling things. I can also get ebay cards at a grocery store like $50 at a time, my cousin won't question purchases like that. Even if it takes into next year, I'll just wait until I can get a decent machine. Would the i7 newer gen like is listed in the PC2 requirements be that much better than the i5 6600? And I'd rather get Win 11 than 10 because support for 10 ends a year from now. I made a mistake by buying the computer on ebay and not researching the processor. It's actually a computer from 2011. I guess I can do without even PC1 for a while because Steam won't load on my Win 8.1 computer anymore after I uninstalled it and reinstalled it because of an error it was having that caused a box to pop up and I had to select something for it to run. It worked before I uninstalled it. I can get a used working computer on ebay cheaper than one new in box. I just need the computer box, I have a spare monitor and keyboard and mouse.

Why not buy a used console instead? Clearly a decent enough PC to run the game without any issue is out of your budget. At least with a console, you'll have the guarantee that the game will run fine!

But I don't want the console version with the Oswald counter. I'm selling a pair of Sinden PC light guns on ebay I never used yet, but bought 2 years ago on ebay, I hope to at least get a few hundred for them in fact they are made in the UK and I'm selling my Iphone 14 Pro Max hope to get several hundred for it and getting a cheaper phone through T-Mobile. I can then find a decent i5 or even i7 computer on ebay even if it's used but working. We sold our Xbox S and PS5 so right now we have nothing that can play PC2. I'm not going to ask my cousin for permission to buy a new PC, I'm going to do it on my own without his knowledge. The light guns and the Iphone should get me enough for the computer. The business on ebay that I bought the 11 year old computer from won't take it back so I'm reselling it on ebay to try to recoup at least a hundred or so. And they said that newer gen processors won't work with it. I only paid $121 for it with shipping and tax.

Y'all forgot the other PC threads from long ago. LOL A K processor can overclock, but, Frontier said that overclocking your CPU or GPU can cause crashes. With this new iteration of the engine they have used for years now, you might be able to overclock but that is something that they need to reveal to us PC players. This new engine utilizes DX12 so...here is hoping...but not expecting.

Do you really need a 6600K processor if getting an i5 or would one without K work? But would that processor barely run it? Would the i7 newer gen be better?

Generations matter, so my 9700k doesn't have hyperthreading, but the 10700k does. That might be the difference. If you want to play on recommended specs, you need a new MoBo, CPU, RAM, and VC. I will not upgrade as every new game I play in 1080p with my 3060 and 9700k does very well. I say crank up your 8700k and grab a new VC. If that doesn't suffice, then you know.

A new pc does not need to be expensive. Usually the costs is in a GPU

Get the intel 11 series or higher. Forget the K. Or just go for AMD ryzen.

Ok, I was looking on ebay today and found some deals, would an i7 6th gen be enough for PC2? They don't give the number of it in the listing. It has 32GB RAM and Win 11 Pro, and a solid state drive. It's an Omen with a clear window on the side and it's $299. The graphics card is only 4GB but I can upgrade that later. I can get a used GPU on ebay for the fraction of the cost of a new one. Should I go higher than an i5 6600 because that is the minimum processor that will run PC2? I have over $200 in my ebay funds from selling things. I saw a few i5 6600K's on ebay for under $500. For now, I just want to get Steam and PC1 back since Steam no longer opens on my Win 8.1 computer after I uninstalled it and reinstalled it because it had a error where you had to choose between a few things. It shows up in Task Manager but the Steam window doesn't open. What about i5-9500 3 ghz.? I found one for $234 free shipping and it has 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD and Win 11 Home. An 11th gen is out of my budget. I have to get something with the minimum processor or a bit above like the i5-9500. The 6600 was launched in August 2015 and the 9500 in 2018.

I know your pain brother, every computer I have built in the last 20yrs have all lasted till now. Even my winXP build is still working, It's a dust collector, but the kids use my last win7 build from 12yrs ago. The point I'm trying to make is that if you save and use good parts in your comp. it will last longer than you would ever think. I suggest you start with a good MoBo, like this one https://www.newegg.ca/msi-pro-h610m-g-wifi-ddr4/p/N82E16813144573?Item=N82E16813144573 CPU https://www.newegg.ca/intel-core-i5...cessor/p/N82E16819118349?Item=N82E16819118349 RAM https://www.newegg.ca/g-skill-16gb-ddr4-3200/p/N82E16820231941?Item=N82E16820231941 all of this together in Canadian$ $460.00 Buy a component once a month or so...they will come together faster than you think. None of these parts are top-of-the-line but they will do great. The CPU socket will support 12-13-14th gen CPU...so you can upgrade if you want later on. That is also without a VC, PSU, Case, Hdd. Just giving you some options brother.

I'm really thinking about that Dell i5-9500 because it's above the minimum requirements and it has Win 11, NVMe SSD which is faster than regular SSD, 16 GB RAM.and I can get a graphics card later for under $100 on ebay like a used one that works. It's only $234, $249 with tax and free shipping.

Remember the power supply in the PC might not be powerful enough for a decent modern PSU.

So you don't want to spend decent money to get a PC, you don't want a console and you don't want to use Geforce now. You are going to have to comprimise on one of those else you are going to struggle to play this game.

My current computer has an i7-8700 and I think it's from 2019. Is that processor powerful enough? Why would they say the minimum requirements then? So you are saying PC2 will struggle on any i5 even one above the minimum one? With Geforce Now you have to pay for it forever to continue using it. I can get a cheap used 6gb graphics card on ebay for under $100. I don't need those expensive gaming desktops that light up and that. Just one that can run PC2 and a processor above the minimum requirements even one from a few years ago. And an SSD NVMe drive which is the fastest, and Win 11 over Win 10 because support ends a year from now.

Minimum requirements are just that, the bare minimum system that they've tested and been able to get the game to function on the lowest graphics settings and smaller parks (like the ones in career mode).

An i7-8700 will probably run PC2. My old i7-8700k with a GTX1080 video card ran PC1 with no problem on high (not ultra) graphics settings, and if that is indeed your current processor, you can probably install Windows 10 on it (it's almost a whole year from now before MS stops supporting it) and get Steam back up and running so you can play PC1. It may also be able to run PC2, although probably not well, BUT in the meantime until Win10 isn't supported anymore, you could save up for a better system.

What about an i5-9500? Is that better than an i5-6600? Is an i7 really that much better than an i5? I found a few i5-9500 desktops on ebay for $200 or under. i7's newer gen start at around $400 for the desktop. I understand PC2 will have DX12 support and multithreading making it perform better than PC1. I was wondering if I could get by with an i5-9500 because it's a few generations newer than the minimum processor.

Dude, I just told you that your current processor should be adequate, at least until you can get something better! Once you've saved up the money, then look at the options you can afford at that time; by then you might be able to afford a much more recent processor.
As for i7's being better than i5's... YES they are! and definitely, the i7-8700 is better than the i5-6600! Though the i5-9500 may be slightly better than the i7-8700 because it's the 9th generation as opposed to 8th. But there are websites you can use to compare processors to each other. Internet searches are your friend.

I'm doing my research. I also found you need a certain watt power supply to run graphics cards which PC2 requires. My current graphics card is 3gb, I guess that won't cut it because it needs a 6gb. I think some smaller pc's have a lower watt power supply but most full size towers have enough. What about a 10th gen i5? Any good?
