Interchangeable Coasters: what is possible?

Hi everyone!

With our exciting 1.4 Anniversary update only a few days away, we want to give you some more information on interchangeable coasters: an awesome new feature that’ll certainly open up some cool new coaster combinations that you’ve been wanting to experience in-game!

As mentioned in the announcement at Frontier Expo, while we want to give you freedom to do what you want, we still want things to be A) technically possible and B) audio-visually be as we intended. Therefore this feature will work as follows:

In your coaster building menu, you can now find a dropdown menu consisting of 38 combinations that are officially supported by us – this means they will work correctly and completely. If any of those combinations do not suit your needs, you can find the option to toggle coaster swapping in the Game Options menu. This will open up over 140 other combinations that you can make use of, but please note that those combinations may have some visual clipping and a default audio experience.

The reasons for this are:
  • Certain cars do not latch on to certain propulsion types, meaning we cannot support those combinations.
  • Stations are embedded in a track, and therefore cannot be adjusted to accommodate cars markedly different to what the station was built to handle.
  • Certain track types are incompatible with certain attachment types.

So in short, swapping your coasters is a great new feature coming to 1.4, but with some limitations as to how they actually work. The team have done an amazing job in finding coaster combinations that can work perfectly (via the dropdown menu), and in the spirit of creative freedom have found loads more combinations that you can use if you really wanted to.

Below are all possible combinations, separated by the 38 officially supported ones, and the other toggled ones.

If you have any questions, please pop them down in a comment below and we’ll do our best to answer them!
[heart]
Bo

As always, thank you for the info!

One question: Will we have the option to use the Sprint 500 train on the new Zenith track?

I may have overlooked, but I didn't see the following combination in the longer (non-standard) list: Zenith ---> Sprint 500.

Top thrill dragster uses a train that "resembles" the sprint 500 train, but it's on Zenith's track type. (I do know the sprint 500 train isn't exactly the dragster train, but it's the closest to it that we have in the game [big grin])

This is the current version used on Dragster (Zenith style track) Thank you for giving us the Kingda Ka train style though!

Your counting them all twice (BttF to Munsters, Munsters to Bttf...Luna to Magickats, Magic cats to Luna) cant they all just be under 1? like one go-karts track has 4 car choices? I get that coasters have different stations but we dont need 4 different gokart tracks and thats not really 12 (or 16) combinations [cool]

If it's not in the list, it's not in 1.4 :)

I'm really excited after seeing this list! A lot of the swaps I was looking forward to are in it! Although, I'm a little disappointed there are no swap options for the Torque coaster. I was really hoping for a 4 seater car trains on it, like the Degen's trains. Oh well.

Bo, would you be able to ask the team as to why there are no swap options for the Torque? It is very similar track type to the Power-Up, and that coaster has 10 swap options. A response back would be appreciated if they can answer.

Agree, was wondering about that myself. Definitely cool to have these options though, just curious as to why there won't be any swap options on the Torque.

Also was looking forward to this combo myself as it would maybe make it possible to do older launched loopers from arrow and swarkzkopf (sp)

I am thrilled that this applies to some of the tracked rides too! Now we can use the antique cars and sleighs on track with tighter turns!

Luna Autos (Powered Track Ride) -- Magic Katz
Luna Autos (Powered Track Ride) -- Sleigh Ride
Magic Katz (Powered Track Ride) -- Luna Autos
Magic Katz (Powered Track Ride) -- Sleigh Ride

Im happy for this because:
1- Thought it was only coaster at first
2- YEEEES finally 4m segment lenghts for the luna cars!!!!

That will be an interesting experience. Wonder how the coasters will behave after one has swapped a train concerning the listing as family or teen/adult coaster. Is the trackbase or the car the one which decides? Example Rage is teen/adult - looney turns family

Quite an impressive list! Some of these are really really appreciated!

Questions to the absence of the Torque coaster on this list? Can we request the Torque is opened up at some point? Currently its one of the more versatile coaster we can play with.

That being said, THANK YOU! for allowing us to swap around on the eurofighter track, that is another incredibly welcome one.

I'd also like to say thanks alot for opening up the power-up, the track on that is gorgeous! If to make a cheeky request can we have chain lifts and block sections added to them too at some point? I love the Powerup so much but the reason I rarely use it is that its forced to one train because of the default ride system on it.

The changable cars are an incredibly welcome change overall, possibly one of my favourite updates so far! I hope this continues to allow launches/lifts/breaks/blocks added to additional track types that don't currently support them - this would open up an endless amount of combustibility for die-hards like me in the future :)

<3 Frontier, smashing it!
