Interiors Vs FDEV's Escape Argument

That's my expectation of what the "real" reason is as well. I'm not sure what you're trying to suggest, though - that because they didn't give that answer, there must be something going on?

I didn’t really suggest anything beyond that my less diplomatic answer is not overly complicated and that I don’t believe they aren’t implemented because of running or can’t figure out how to make gameplay.

Like a girlfriend you want rid of, sometimes diplomacy is not the way. Sometimes a single straight-up, “I’m not going to see you anymore” is more merciful than 5 “I’m just not sure we have a future anymore”s. The latter implies there is uncertainty that needs clearing up and invites that 6th uncomfortable chat you’d like to stop having. Yes, that may come with some anger. Has stringing it out generated less?

we'll wait and see. I think this was the turning point and it will be better now, gameplay and communication-wise

It funny when people act like fdev have limited options in this regard. I mean I suppose they do, but they are self imposed.

"we don't have a coder for VR anymore, wahhh" because there exist no one else that could do this job and apparently that's why so many VR games exist?

"Ship interiors would be repetitive, durr" like literally everything else implemented in to game like driving around reloading guardian sites/Davs hope/ Jameson crash... essentially a perfect fit given the trend 🤷‍♂️

The only thing I've been shown fdev completely capable of doing without fail is halfassing it and making flimsy excuses for poor effort. But if they work as hard at actually doing what needs done, we'd be here singing their praise.

They obviously enjoy our disdain

I’ve posted this before, pre-engineers, a graphic glitch occurred while I approached one of my ships, if I recall correctly it was my Python.

This glitch allowed me a glimpse inside the ship. It was just a narrow slice and could only be viewed at a certain spot from the ground.

What was visible were finished interior walls with structure and colors.

I can only compare this with other graphical glitches that have happened to me, such as the SRV sinking “below” ground level and revealing the wire frame layout of the game.

That was the only time this particular glitch occurred.

No, it wasn’t recorded and no screen shots taken. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, it seemed to me that interiors would be a future feature.

Arthur said one of the reasons you wouldn't want Interiors is becuase if you were in a hurry retreating from a base you would not want to have to make your way to the bridge through a large ship becuase of the urgent need to 'get out of there'
I did recollect this last night with a bit of a chuckle as I was under heavy fire on-foot at a settlement and decided I needed to 'get out of there' in a hurry. So I ran over to my SRV and selected 'Board', which then proceeded to take me to an extended black screen where I continued to take fire and all the time this black screen was visible I was not able to do a thing except take damage. Luckily I just managed to escape but this has happened before where I couldn't.

If I was able to actually run up the ramp to my ship or into my open SRV without a black screen transition then I would be more in control of this escape sequence. As it stands now, this black screen sequence just takes control away from me and it's just luck as to whether I survive it or not in such scenarios. So Arthur's original point is negated!

It was a lie when he said it and it's a lie now

If interiors were added, why not just give people the option to just fade-to-black transition straight to the airlock or vehicle bays, or straight to the concourse if you're docked? The crotch panel would keep its functionality, and the interiors would be there for the people that want that.
Why put time and money into developing something that most people would bypass? Because even the people who want interiors would bypass them when they got in a hurry, or after they got bored seeing them.

As to the OP, running alongside a ship and running through the ship are two completely different things. Try being in a hurry when you have to climb ladders and wait for doors to open. It's especially annoying when devs decide that ships in the future don't have locking doors. So you sit down in the cockpit only to be shot in the back of the head by the thief who followed you onboard. Yes, that's a thing that has happened in That Other Space Game.

And for the 75,352nd time, interiors would add nothing of value to the game. All of the gameplay suggestions that have been made for interiors could either be done without interiors, such as visiting derelict ships, or just aren't fun, such as being boarded. It isn't fun to have to stop mid-trip and rush to put out fires in the cargo area or EVA to repair hull damage. I know, because I've had to do both in Subnautica back when they first released the Cyclops submarine. I don't want to do manual repairs/engineering on my ship. If they ever did add interiors they would just come with more minigames which is the last thing ED needs.

This is why FDEV's communication sucks. I would LOVE ship interiors, I've made many posts on how the gameplay of Odyssey has no systemic interactions with Elite and that it's a problem that ship interiors and EVA could help with. But we need to face it, we are never getting ship interiors. Never. Ever. FDEV employees have spoken about it in the discord and have basically said it can't be done, the 'ship' is the 'player' and they can't make a 'player inside a player'.

They need someone to come out on stream and just straight up say, "We can't make ship interiors because it is too difficult and we will make more money making park games for the amount of effort it would take to actually get ship interiors working". Then finally this glimmer of hope for ship interiors will disappear and hopefully, some of the players will move onto space games that actually care about the ships and space aspects.

Odyssey is a one and done content drop, it's not like Horizons where they said they will be dropping seasonal updates. Their financial report shows they are now focusing on Jurassic World 2 for the foreseeable future, Elite is done. But the good news is there are other space games to get!

But I completely agree with you... people are proving they don't just want 'an' answer, they really want the answer they wanted to hear.

This thread is a prime example of why it's a bad idea to engage with the community on the "why" something isn't currently in the plan. It adds no value.

Every time you just end up with a myriad of suggestions on how it could work, which as they are coming from the player base, have no bearing whatsoever to the actual technical and logistical constraints in play.

Late to the party so may have been said...but I'd be happy with just bridge interiors. Means we would board ship as currently happens, but walk round in the cockpit while supercruising and gaze out of the window. Maybe only fun for big ships, but then again there has to be some reason for wanting to own a big ship.
