Interiors Vs FDEV's Escape Argument

Later, you could add to that by placing, say, a suit locker and an armoury in the airlock to bring immersion to the loadout aspect. You could add to that by connecting the rooms with a lift or a corridor. You could add to that by adding rooms off the corridor, like a customisable respawn bunk, or whatever other rooms might come with time. Those are nice to haves for sure, but the teleporting to the surface and teleporting into your seat are weak design decisions at the very best. It wasn't Yamiks that came up with the Armstrong moment, it was Frontier. They have not even close to delivered even an interim version of this at the moment.

You don’t add stuff like this for mere walks. You need more than that.

Yep, so do other simulators - even those that typically only rely on vehicle simulation, e.g. almost all of the Bus and Train Simulator games...

You’re right!

Sturmovik, dcs, red baron, flight simulation, xplane, wing commander, tie fighter, european air war, combat flight simulator… I could get a list of all simulators on the market and around 1% would feature that…

So let’s agree that all simulators have that but cherry picking the few that do.

Space engineers is not a simulator. How about adding quake while at it?

The plethora of other games I have mentioned, are, though.

Ok so you started out with "no other simulator does"

Then progressed to "only one other simulator does"

Now you concede that there are others. Think I'll leave it at that - cheers.

I had to chortle at a few of those examples - Wing Commander had boarding and exit animations for every flight and had plenty of on-ship stuff between missions portrayed from a first-person view, and Tie Fighter had the Concourse sections depicted as animated screens - don’t you think if the hardware had been capable at the time that they’d have lots more first-person stuff out of the vehicles?

So what, the genera of the game makes no difference to the tech behind it. if it's possible in these other games it's more than possible in this one. Especially since we're told this functionality was designed in mind from the get-go.

Yeah, but the original point being countered was that it would be a huge amount of work. Actually the initial steps are there already, they are just largely bypassed by the laughable Blue Armstrong Circles. If that link isn't necessary, why have the landing pads, why have the lifts to the concourse, why have supercruise... why not just teleport everywhere.

Beyond those initial steps it should be straightforward to add bits at a time, with attendant gameplay elements.

Look - watch Down to Earth Astronomy's latest Youtube piece. It makes the case very succinctly. I have no problem imagining it, he doesn't either. I get that you do.

Let's hope all this tedious "I want to walk about in my truck" stuff can be kept to this thread. But sadly it seems de rigeur in every other thread about Odyssey too.

if I ask my contractor friend to add a garage to my house and he says it can't be done and my neighbors all just added garages to their houses using other builders, I might point to that as evidence that yes, it can be done... or at least require some better explanation.

Also, yay! another interior thread

Because there is no difference between minecraft and rogue squadron…..

Look man, when you think that there is no difference between space engineer’s tech and elite there ain’t much a conversation to have.

Forget that I once worked 6 months on an interior for a simulator a few years ago. It is now easy because on this forum people keep on wishing that it is easy.

I am not playing a contest to prove I am right on this, I am telling you facts. I don’t care how red in the face you become it won’t change that doing vehicle interiors is a lot of work and it takes months to just model it.

I am not trying to prove that I am right I am telling you how thing literally are. Doing interiors is a lot of work and you need justifications before making those. That is all I am saying. Forget that other games have this or that. Just understand that doing this takes a lot of time. Months for just the art part for a single vehicle.

I am stating facts. I won’t tell you at some point « yeah you’re right doing this is very easy » because I did it several times and know that it ain’t. It’s long and you need to have a good reason to embark on this.

At this point I am at a loss of words to explain to you that this job is not an easy or short one to do. I am throwing the towel, believe what you want.

It can be done.

But then your friend asks you why you want it you don’t have a car.

You tell him to you want to walk inside.

He tells you it’s a waste of money it’s going to be very expensive.

You tell him no it ain’t. Then you proceed to get some friends over to tell that guy that it’s not expensive.

He still tells you that it’s expensive.

You tell him that houses have it.

He still tells you that it’s expensive.

You and your friends tell him that it’s not long to do and that it’s not expensive.

He still says that it’s expensive and not worth it and that you better have a good reason before starting on this.

Nah, Frontier kinda asked for it. If players are interested in ship interiors they have to tell FDev.

Maybe people who never did that job will understand one day after being told countless times that it’s not simple and not cheap and that it requires a better justification than « I want to walk around » before starting that task.

Maybe… but I am not holding my breath.

But hey I agree that it would be damn impressive if we could do that. At some point yeah it would be great.
I am reading Wanted at the moment. The scenes of ship boarding are great and would be an excellent gameplay.
Immobilize ship, EVA to the hatch, gut open hatch, board, kill, plunder.
