Interiors, why?

then support it and get behind it, don't be an oppressor
Why would I support a feature (eg: ship interiors) which I fear will be a waste of development time for myself and most CMDRs?

In truth, I fear the entire new FPS development risks being largely a waste of time. I fear it will be slow and clunky mechanic with rather simplistic gameplay, which will not compare favourably to the plethora of dedicated FPS games already on the market. I'd much rather see such a huge development effort going into the core areas of the game and improving those.

So again, I don't see how I can in effect lie to myself, to support something I don't (currently) agree with.

But as I've said, I'd be elated if this update comes out and I'm proved wrong by FD's choices, and it's truly a well thought out bar raising set of additions...

if you started a campaign to improve mining id be the first to support you
The amount of effort I've put into suggestions for this game, especially mining, generally for naught is depressing. I quite literally have been pushing for certain things in mining for numerous years... Some of which were given to FD by a notible ED community member (I believe) back when FD were asking for community input.

Here's such a set of proposals from three years ago! - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...ateful-resource-hot-spots.385993/#post6054187
With the latest mining development it's frustrating how just a bit more effort and better design could have made it a far more engaging and deeper experience. But instead it feels needlessly half baked. It's another example of FD just seemingly struggling with the design of joined up gameplay and mechanics. And this sort of thing in turn makes me concerned about Odyssey. It's the same designers now trying an even bigger development on an whole new Eastern Front.

I envisage the main rub of the gameplay being first person combat attacking bases and installations, against Thargoids, and possibly AI enemy etc? I'd be surprised if it involves combat in ships...

My concern is, the more I think about it, the more effort it seems for this whole new area of gameplay, all of which is effort that is trying to compete with a number of dedicated game titles specialising in FPS. And of course it's all effort that could have been 'spent' elsewhere in the game to deepen/expand it.

It's going to be interesting to see what FD have decided makes sense for the game... And what to dedicate what seems to be their biggest development push for ED since release.

Don't get caught up on the "shooter" aspect of FPS. If FD go down the System Shock, Deus Ex, Alien Isolation route there's a smeg load of interesting possibilities that don't revolve around pulling a trigger. You've also got stuff like the vanishing of Ethan Carter that uses First person for something other than shooty shoot. Addng interesting things to do via first person space legs will deepen/expand the game.

i'll tell you where they will go.... Everywhere

cat litter in 0g... hmm what could go wrong...

They need to sort the problem of litter trays in zero gravity before implementing them in our ship interiors.

I must admit I forgot about zero gravity, that would make cat litter control a tad hard.......cat poo in zero g would give a whole new meaning to "floaters"......Ill get me coat.

Understood... But your example of "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" is a hand crafted experience, whereas of course ED is (basically) procedural...

Be it FPS or not, going to be interesting to see what FD have decided it worth the biggest development effort since release...

Only put that in because the others I mentioned do have shooty bits! ;) But it proves FP doesn't always need the S!

To be honest I'm not holdng my breath about Odyssey having the sort of gameplay I want....it's going to be generic shooty stuff...I'm praying I'm wrong!

How can something be cookie-cutter without being samey? Isn't the idea of something being cookie-cutter the exact opposite of something being unique?
As in a corrider in a Saud Kruger will look the same in another Saud Kruger, a corrider in a Lakon will look the same in another Lakon. A 3d artist will do the initial designs of the basic (cookie cutter) corridor blocks (intesections, T junctions, bulkheads etc etc). Then another will use those "prefabs" to build up the interior and add little unique touches here and there. i.e. Ship interiors in theory could be built up quicker than iif every one was hand crafted.

I guess they just have to weigh the cost of modelling every ship's interior with the potential money they'd make selling Arx-costing motivational posters for the aft corridor on C deck or a space themed bedspread for my bunk.
