Internet micro-dropouts when using the Rift and E:D - possible USB issue

I have a USB wireless network adaptor and I've noticed that when I use the Rift, I suffer annoying micro-dropouts with my internet connection. I suspect it's USB-related, although obviously my internet adaptor isn't plugged into my 1080.

Am I on the right track here do you think, and I should add an additional USB 3.0 card to pick up the strain - or is there an issue with the Rift more generally in this regard?

The OR uses a lot of USB resources already. You're probably right that it's related. You could check your USB port power settings.

A powered usb hub would also help... I used to have a terrible time when I used a saitek x56 and the oculus rift, because those two contraptions demanded a lot of usb power.

I've just had to install the Startech 4 port/4 controller card (£80). to cure the lock ups and stutters which seem to have come with Windows and Oculus updates recently. I had the recommended Inatek card but I was definitely having USB bus issues. The expensive card (also Oculus approved) sorted that.

One other thing I did (related to my USB woes) which has transformed my ED VR experience is to use a tiny Autohotkey script called ED-Affinity
Once run, it sits in your tray and sets the Rift to use only the last two CPU cores, waits for ED to start and then sets it's affinity to the remaining CPU cores. It's transformed the game for me. It runs totally smooth now and I swear the graphics are better even than before I had problems. Maybe fooling myself there but I'm not bothered ED is back at full steam!

Try ED Affinity or set it manually yourself, see if it helps.
