Newcomer / Intro Inventory?

Is there a station inventory? When you buy things like cargo it goes into your hold and you are stuck with it till you sell or dump it?

Go into the starport services menu while docked, the scroll down to commodities. That's the ticket

No, there is no inventory to store cargo you don't want aboard your ship (yet, if it comes at all), once you have the cargo, either sell it or dump it.

No, I mean a personal inventory that you can move things into that you want to keep but not haul around right now.

We don't have station storage (yet.?) don't think you can store ships with cargo so nope, as you said, keep it sell it or dump it
