Is Chapter 4 "make it or break it" for you?

Absolutely 100% proof yes. Ive waited fer years fer this and felt like quitting last year because my patience are finite. Their visions last October made me hold on another ten months...only to find out those visions still havent taken form in the physical universe.

So as it stands now, their words are all but meaningless as I no longer have any faith or trust in them. Words are now no longer enough...only actual results will be enough now. Its time to shine FD and Q4 is the final deadline...no more excuses, no more delays, no more dodgy bug ridden updates...either Q4 is quality or yer history end of story.

Its the only reason Im still on these forums at all...the only reason this game is still on my HD...that last splinter of a sliver of hope that means they have a deadline at all.

They wanna be the strong silent types, then I dont care anymore...they wanna be childish they can be childish but to fail to deliver as well as the silence and there will be no comeback from that. Enough is enough...show us the shiny or its game over...tick tock tick tock...

No... but! a lot of people do have high hopes and so do I.

ED is clearly in need of multiplayer content such as guilds and groups it's been screaming out for it for 2 or so years.

I am a life time member and happy with where the game is going.

Not for me. I'm hoping they make mat/data gathering much less random and add some new mechanics.

Looking forward to what they do release but ultimately everything becomes boring after a while.

Varies from player to player. Some it will be, others it won't.

Simple as that.

Frontier are planning post Beyond content, so as far as they are concerned, it is not make or break.

Not sure, but I dont know why I am playing right now, so quite possibly.
I certainly wont be buying any more cosmetics till I see something not only of value for my LEP but also FUN, so 4 is vital if they want any more of my cash.

I was just thinking about this OP. I've decided to "never say never" when it comes to the game itself, especially in light of No Man's Sky NEXT, which shows any game can come back from a really bad spell. That said, if Q4 is a bust, then that's when I'll probably quit the forums (if I haven't already), because it will be proof that none of my time spent here was worth it - be it general discussions, focused feedback, or filling out bug reports.

Will a new update make or break the game for me???

I seriously doubt it. I am loving this game. It's a minority of players that constantly break the game for other players. Personally, I don't ever see me going back into Open after the experiment I dabbled with at the end of last year (3303).

Of course, if the "Chapter 4 update" adds stuff to Open that other modes don't get, or if it removes stuff from other modes that still then get to remain as stuff in Open mode, then, yeah - that might break the game for me and countless other players!?!?!

No. I possibly even could bear with the game like it is now, VR making all the difference here, though. If Q4 fails, I would reduce my playtime, but most likely not give it up. And I wish there will be at least some kind of storyline development, FD seem to have more or less stopped anything in this direction after 3.0. Thargoids in the bubble don't count, neither do stopgap Galnet articles without any ingame impact. Long gone are the days of Drew Wagar.

If its buggy, half hearted unplayable and no fun when logging in. Yep for sure.
They have had more than enough time to sort the flaws of the game out. Far too much leeway. All the "we are fixing the bugs in Beyond" gave us ships and paintjobs but still bugged unplayable missions far worse than before the "Improvements" hit and now the new on #/SS system name. Bug Due to sloppy programing. That should have been squashed the VERY NEXT DAY! no excuses from the defender brigade about code and how hard things are. Seriously it's sloppy and unprofessional.
I play for fun not some mad frontier loyalty. If C4 turns out rubbish. I'm out.

No, because I think Q4 will be great.

Also I never treat updates as making or breaking something. If content is not interesting, I just don't care. If it is, it gives something to enjoy.

Why would quarter 4 be it for anyone? Quater4 comes it is space legs, you wanted atmospheric landings so quit the game, or the opposite, it is atmospheric landings but you wanted space legs so that is it you give up. Why if quarter 4 isn't what you want, take a break and see what the next one is. A better title for this thread would be, if quarter4 is a make or break will you check back on quarter4 5 and 6 etc... or give up completely. I am sure the answer with that question would be I would check back and see, but not play in the mean time. That is the answer anyone being completely honest should say, because if a LEP costs you nothing to check, and if not, it also costs you nothing to see if the game evolved to a point you may like (but remember what you want may not be what that other person wants). I am using quarters to denote any update to the game no matter if paid or free.

Some things i love about the game, some things i don't like and some are just missing (for me). But i am definitely here to stay, as that what i have is already good and getting better with each update.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm actually glad that it's a "no" for so many of you :)

Truth be told, if it's REALLY bad, it probably won't be a "beak it" for me, but rather an incentive for a very very long break - I'm thinking a year or two. We'll see. I'm not even putting any high hopes, that phase is behind me now. I'm kinda just hanging in there, waiting to see what happens...

(Worth mentioning that I have nearly 3k hours on the counter and I'm just longing for new activities to enjoy - but what we were getting lately was of no interest to me, or I quickly lost interest due to lack of attention to details kind of implementation - IMHO of course and YMMV).

No...
But I am looking forward to it.
what will determine whether I get right back into losing significant hrs of my life, or whether ED remains a dip in and out game for a while however will be the content of DLC#2. Chapter 4 is a free update so i am not expecting miracles (though to hit that design goal of planet surfaces would be incredible) but DLC # 2 will shape my expectations of the game for at least 2019 and this i am interested in - and scared about.

I am not even in a rush for atmospherics or space legs..... but it is more internal consistency, more persistence, more skill based mechanics to find stuff rather than just RNG (and the thing i am gagging for more than anything is npc wingmates and crew, if DLC2 does not bring them then they are probably never coming and this would massively crush my hopes. :( )

if we get that i will be jumping back in with both feet, if we dont, then i will still play ED from time to time, just the experience of flying IN my ship is incredible - but i will finally I think accept that what I really want ED to be is no longer what the devs are aiming for, and so i will back of "a little".

i learned today however that X4 wont support VR... so that is 1 of my backup plans scuppered.

Not sure....

Beyond has been a big slice of 'meh' so far, some nice additions granted but it's a long way from delivering what I felt it should have and there are so many long term bugs and issues that have never been addressed, therefore Q4 will have to be brilliant to make up for the underwhelming 'meh' of Beyond so far.

I am also interested to see what the new DLC and plans for 2019 will be about, there is a tonne of speculation but it really is just finger in the air time. Again it will have to be utterly brilliant in concept and scope to keep me interested.

The problem is I don't think FDev can deliver on gameplay or fun. Tech stuff like the stellar forge, flight mechanics and planets - they are great but the gameplay mechanics and design decisions have been mostly awful and I really doubt their ability to deliver anything other than mindless, tedious, a to b rinse repeat style gameplay loops balanced on a tonne of RNG.

I hope they prove me wrong I really do.
