Is Combat Logging (CL) needed to be fixed?

Are you sure? Pirates are gankers and are not legitimate PvP player? The victim who refuses to give cargo and was killed is good, the killer pirate bad?
Bounty hunters who scan their "victims" before killing are gankers too?

Actually this thread is only about those and not at all about your definition of PvP. If to PvP player consent to fight each other and one of them CLs is a problem too, but generally this CL PvP style is indeed easily solved by tags/karma and similar ideas.

A pirate who attacks someone who doesn't want to get attacked is not a PvPer. He just attacks random people. PvP means two people fighting against each other. I am not saying there should be no pirates. I am just saying that this is no PvP.

Please tell me:

DID I MISSUSED PHRASE PvP ? Should I have used GvV? Really?

You misused PvP when you said two people fighting each other would be stripped down PvP while one strong guy killing someone helpless would be the real PvP.
So much about care bears, special snowflakes and I-win buttons. Yes, that's you. ;)

Where have I done that? The second part about "strong guy killing someone helpless would be the real PvP" seems not to be from me.

Thread can be closed, its evolving into questions about definition of PvP, and yes, its my fault too that this happend.

I think the sad truth is, for anything to work like this... PvP / Piracy / Open play antics.. then OPEN really can only be a persistent server controlled single instance environment.

Fixing combat logging, along with a multitude of other 'problems' are beneficiaries of such a system change.

I'm not sure that a single server instance would work either. Those close to the server (in Internet space, not necessarily geographically) would have a distinct advantage over those who were farther away.

Think about it, if your latency were 10mS and your opponent had a latency of 200mS, then you are going to win every encounter unless you really do something stupid.
