Is it just me, or does anybody else hate the Python?

So recently, after watching my Asp Explorer get blown up for the 2nd time that day, I decided it was time to move to a new ship. The AspX is great and all, but with the new AI it just doesn't have the punch to go after the targets I want. I decided since I like multi-purpose ships, I would trade it for a Python. I had tried the python before, but I didn't really like it. But now with engineers, I thought I could fix the problems I had with it. To get some more money, I started work on the Mehet Community Goal, but my god! This thing feels awful to pilot. It feels like a literal giant brick, and even with adding turrets to counteract that, it still feels awful to do combat with, and I barely could even survive what would be basic encounters with my Asp. Does anybody have some suggestions for a higher tier ship (barring the Conda, Cutter, and Corvette)? I like multipurpose, so I was thinking the Clipper. But I am only at Serf, so that would be a while away.

It's not a brick if you don't have junk thrusters. B class and above for combat.

Full pips to engines will make it turn very well.

Plus you wanna talk about bricks wait till you fly the Cutter. My turn circle is measured in KMs.

Well, I want to fly something "new", and I have to fly something to get to a Clipper, so I guess I will temporarily fly a Mk. IV.

You will get used to the Python.
Of course if you step out of a more agile ship into a less agile ship then that last one will feel comparatively bad, but it's all relative.

I actually love my Python. It can deal with the new Deadly and Elite AI much better than my FDL.

By the way... do you have A-rated thrusters? It makes a big difference.
Also make use of your laterals and use boost turns.

Hate it? I'm loving mine again. It has become my workhorse since 1.6/Horizons. Prior to this it kind of sat in the hangar gather dust.

A multi-role ship will never out perform a role-specific ship. Even then both ships are limited by how they are equipped. The most important piece of equipment being what sits in the CMDR's chair.

So much of this. My python is my workhorse as well, it's all down to pilot skill in combat. I've never had to use turrets on my python, even after 1.6 dropped. Now that we have 2.1, I love it even more than ever

Yeah I've decided to save up for a python again. It seems to be the best suited for taking advantage of the horizons content.

No, I don't have anywhere near enough money to begin to even c rate a python, let alone get A-thrusters. That's probably why I dislike it so much. Maybe I'll try it again when I have enough money to buy b/a rated equipment.

I took down an Elite Vulture with turrets, don't underestimate them. If I'm in my Python I just want to be left alone to go from A to B. Turrets do the job

I love the Python, but just like the OP, I hated it at first.
It felt so cumbersome to fly, especially in SC.

Your first upgrades should be the A thrusters and Power Dist. As these make a massive difference.

Loads of storage space & plenty of guns, it works well for me! ;)

Wow. I've been using the Cobra Mk. IV for a bit, and A-Rated it, and it's actually a lot of fun! Even close to my Asp in how much I like it.

It's like most of the ships - it doesn't really shine until you kit it out well. I hated the stock FAS and sold it, but rebought it when I could afford to A-rate it. It's like a completely different beast. Python's the same. Great ship :)
