Is there a Zoom button? Or a any other trick to improve text clarity using a DK2?

Hello everyone,

First of all, thanks Frontiers! You made an awesome game. I have 20 hours played and I still don't know what I'm doing...but I'm still loving it. Kudo!

My main point now, I'm using a DK2, the first few days in VR were mind blowing but now the blurry text is starting to be a real problem in ED. It's not such pleasant experience any more.

So far, what I've done :

- I'm running the game in 2560x1440p (this one make a huge difference, but still not enough)
- I'm using a "green" HUD (also make a huge difference, still not enough)
- I made sure I was using the correct IPD (this one doesn't seems to have a huge impact, but it helps)
- I've also purchase Voice Attack, which help because I don't have to interact with the interface that much :p

Now, beside psychically leaning toward the multiple interfaces inside the ship (which doesn't really help that much anyway) is there a way to zoom in/out or any other tricks to make the text easier on the eyes? If anyone with a DK2 tried the demo "Discovering Space" I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. In that game, you can bind a button that zoom the whole screen and it's extremely useful. Is there such a thing in ED? Would the dev add something like that in the future perhaps? Is there anything else that I can do to improve text clarity inside the Rift?

I think you've done pretty much everything that is possible to mitigate the DK2 resolution problems. It's a development kit, not a production release, and the hardware can only do so much. Elite can only do so much without completely changing the UI, and I don't think they are going to alter it at all.

Hopefully the release version of the Rift will have enough resolution to make this a non-issue, I just hope that my graphics card can handle the extra load :(

nope.. nothing left to do. It's what you get when you have tiny text, running on less than 50% their intended resolution, on a screen 2 inches from your face.

a 1440 display, supposedly what the CV1 will have when it is released, should be a considerably improvement.

are you using the DSR from nvidia or the in game super-sample? The in game super-sample is way better. The other thing to check and I don't mean this condescendingly is do you need spectacles for distance/close work because this can be an issue. If your distance vision is not good then this can be a struggle. Contacts are best way forward.

What type of seat/chair are you using? It helps a little to sit far back as you can when camera comes on then ease your seat up some just so you have a little bit of a permanent zoom.

I'm using a forced resolution, I created a custom resolution directly from the Nvidia control panel, I'm not touching their DSR factor setting... it's really crappy. I'll try the in-game DSR but if I remember right this setting can hit your FPS pretty hard!

Nvidia DSR is a little crappy compared to in-game supersampling but it seems to be much less GPU intensive and allows me to keep shadows on in resource extraction sites so I find the overall experience is better with DSR than in game supersampling.

Make sure your lenses are clean

I have a real prob with fogging, after only 10-15 mins of gaming, things start to blur and it's moisture form my nose breath rising onto the lenses.
I taped up the vents at the bottom and added rolled up tissue over the nose bridge and it's heaps better. I also use Catcrap - (motorcycle visor antifog gel), which is good alone, but fantastic with the vents taped

i think your being picky, its the limit of the dk2.

its plenty legible with the dsr and green hud/sweetfx

I didnt see any mention of sweet fx, but search the forum and you will find Dr Ak's dk2 setup guide

there are sweet fx set ups that works well with green hud and dsr/ss. Cpt America's sweetfx settings worked best for me

I was actually a little surprised last night (during the brief time I had my rift working), that this actually works!

hah, ill second that.
its a learning curve, or is it "leaning" curve...

your so used to darting your eyes around IRL, in the rift its a lot of head movement.

now hit boost and stand up to see outside your ship...
