Is there any advantage to owning a boxed copy of the game?

Although it's a personal choice, I'd rather have a boxed version. :D

Compared to just owning the digital copy if I don't care not owning a physical copy of the game?

Almost certainly! In another 20 years time it will be worth much more than a digital download that's been burnt onto DVD-R. Think of it as an investment.

I love the smell of fresh manual in the morning. :D

And it looks good on the shelf as well.

I'd just like to add that it would be to your advantage to get the boxed game as it will come with a map of the known galaxy. So you know where you are and you know where you are going - which sort of helps if you think about it.

woof woof! - That's my other dog impression.

This is the perk for owning an Elite Box.

Year 4387 an Archaeologist finds an old skelly in downtown New London. A year later its displayed in a museum hugging an elite Box.

The plack say
"Here is displayed the old none synthetic human, you can see that by it's barbaric and fanatic look and hugging posture and the Box whit the disk shaped Deity called Elite" :p

Smells like victory.. ;)

e-readers and tablets are great little gadgets but nothnig replaces the authentic feeling and function of a real book. Come to think of it the book is an almost perfect invention

I also think it can greatly add to the experience if you have a box with goodies in it. It depends upon the game though.. When it comes to Elite many of us have been waiting nearly three decades for this moment and the original Elite came in a box that appeared to be overflowing with stuff.

I still treasure my space traders flight manual and original copy of the dark wheel. Had many an enjoyable moments reading them. :)

That's got me going to search through my parents attic when I visit this Christmas, looking for my old Elite games.

If it's worth any money, I'll be selling mine. Not really enough room for boxed games...

It could be a nice investment - especially since it won't be mass produced like the boxed versions of the older games.

Talking of which, just look at these on ebay:

CD32 Version of Frontier going for £150

BBC version of Elite going for £60

I think they're massively overpriced though :D

Once I'm over this bad back I'm going up in the loft to dig out my Frontier box (Amiga version) with manuals etc. It's in one of the several giant packing boxes full of games boxes from the last 30 years. I have the Frontier disks here on the desk, wonder if they still work? And the disk labelled in my scrawl "Frontier saves"... hmmm.

the only advantage I can see to owning a boxed copy of Elite is the same difference as having a digital copy of a film and having the boxed copy of a film.

it all boils down to if you like having a box or not.

Yes I agree, especially since it will be the first version of the game. woof, woof !

Anyway, to take a box Elite, it is not with the aim of selling it later. But it is rather an question of affectivity and to have something solid in hands
