Is this a nerd game?

This game requires more intelligence and patience than casual games. You can call it whatever you want. :p

I would vote 'YES'. I think any simulation type game could be nerdish - especially train / truck driving - and I suppose ship flying is very similar.
Games that are not nerdish (IMHO) are arcade games and FPS - but I think I'd rather be a nerd.

Nerd Game. (kind of)

A good bet I reckon though, that most people employ the best looking harmless female pilot they can find, regardless of whether they use fighter bays or not. (Go on, you know you do). Add 5 nerd points (it'[s only a computer game girl!!) but add 5 jock points too for being strangely drawn to Aisling Duval. 1 jock bonus point, if Arissa Lavigny-Duval looks like your kind of growed up woman.

Ship load outs basically satisfies the car-tinkerer aspect of the Jock psyche imo. 10 obligatory jock points if you know, either your jump range, powerplant spec or carry a shield generator.

When interdicted by an inferior, wanted ship who opens fire. Do you (A) high wake away from that sidewinder, he's obviously suicidal and needs a friend (B) laugh uncontrollably and cripple him, one system at a time (C) Kill as quickly as possible, this scrap metal won't deliver itself!! 10 jock points on C. +1 nerd for A and for B/ you probaly class as being slightly psycopathic. Have a bouns of 10 jock points for knowing what a cargo hatch is but add -1 because your mission just timed out.

A further -7.4 mega points for farming that cute little sidey's mostly harmless tears.

A friend came over and saw ED on my roomates computer. He asked what it was and got "Ahhh, it's like a space game... flying around, trading, but like, the whole, real galaxy. It's a nerd game."

Is it? I never thought so but maybe being a nerd has blinded me.

The game does have many things in it that could be described as esoteric.

It's also a sci-fi game so yea its probably a nerd game.

Technically every video game is a nerd-type thing. So if he plays ANY video games at all, or watches ANYTHING science fiction related on TV / Netflix / Hulu, or any Anime, then he's a nerd too. Next time you see him OP tell him to shut the hell up lol. At least that's what I would honestly do.

100% yes what non-nerds do you know who play yhe game regularly.

I supposed they stick to COD? If it wasn't was the NERD there wouldn't be a fricking computers. The NASDAQ was built by nerds the code crackers moon landing solving the works problems..

There's a lot of great games that don't fit in the COD spectrum. Like, a lot.

I don't know what people classify as nerd for others but I wouldn't count sci fi as a tell-tale. My girl likes sci-fsci-fi but hates elite and all the nerdy *censored* I tell her.

You definitely need to be on the nerd spectrum to enjoy the game in its entirety. The nerd spectrum is large, and ranges from anyone with a passing interest in astronomy and internet games surrounded irl by people who aren't, who look at them strangely when they mention they have a passing in interest in astronomy and fly a spaceship. To cheesey bespectacled pvpers who exploit the game to death, researching and experimenting lazor ranges but insisting they're just out to kill nerds while drinking lite beer and whoop it up loving watching those salty nerds die. Through to total build your own cockpit out of crisp packets and supermarket trolleys dredged from the local canal using modified Fortran guidance systems type.
So, there are obvious nerds, those who self identify as nerds and people who are nerds and don't realise it. So yea ED is probably a nerd's game.

It's a game for people with lives full of adventure, art, political engagement, lively intellectual conversation, romance, world travel and creative fulfilment and acclaim. Poets. Explorers. Radicals.

That's what I tell myself.

there was a time gaming in general was a nerd past time. But gamers conquered pop culture in the mid 2000s, and now it's an incredibly mainstream activity.

Elite Dangerous falls very deeply into the nerd spectrum of modern gaming however, and it's not gonna move much.

The US military is *chock-full* of nerds. :)

I have a lifetime interest in both gaming and aerospace, so, Elite is the only game in town, at the moment. (I never bought NMS's premise)

But once you learn the basics, which can be a bit tricky, it makes for a great casual game. Need to pick your tasks carefully or your quick half-hour will have there all night.
😏

Nerds rule the world...
Nerds have been to the deepest depths of the oceans...
Nerds have been to the moon...
Nerds are controlling rovers on distant worlds...
Soon Nerds will bridge the gap between the stars...
One day Nerds will rule the Universe.

I am a nerd, fear me!

:D
