Newcomer / Intro It finally happened

Than you so much for this thread! I just started a clew days ago, and git around to open play last night, and reading the beforehand saved me. I cruising in system to station, and just before I got there, I was interdicted. Rather than fight it, I submitted. With max power in engines, the second I could, I floored it and hit boost until I could activate my FSD again. I made it 5o the station, laughing all the way. Without these tips, I would have been fried and a good bit poorer than I already am.

I was on my way to a port to pick up a rare item in my shiny new Cobra. I was almost there when I got interdicted. I saw the CMDR before the name and I knew I had no chance, so I throttled up and dumped all my power into the engines and boosted out of there. Unfortunately, he was more powerful than me and I think he had me exploded in like 3 seconds. It took all the cash I had left to pay the insurance and restore my ship, so now here I sit with 1000 credits and a cobra to my name.

/sigh

It's alright, that's open play. To me this is the cost of doing business. I just wish it happened on a day when I had more cash in my account.

I get the feeling these pirates hang out at places where rares are sold. He didn't even give me a chance to drop my cargo, which I would have gladly done, as I was not far from where I purchased it. Some people just want to kill for the sake of killing I suppose. I wasn't much of a challenge for him.

OP, sorry to hear your experience...but glad to also see you keeping it real and not whining...there will be idiots, where idiots can be....unfortunately...but truth be told, open is indeed very solo for the most part....

My strategy in my early days was always to get away from the core and crowded systems as soon as I could...didnt last a week in the LHS 3447 region...didn't bothered in going and "check Lave and Leesti out"...none of that...a tadpole had to do what a tadpole do: hide and grow!...

And the only time that I have been ever interdicted in these almost 4 months, I was sooooo scared and knew nothing about pirates...thought he had to kill me for cargo so I ran!!! ...I wished I knew better, I would have given him some cargo, cause he was nice about it...

Well, after licking my wounds for a day, I'm back at it now. I earned a few credits this morning doing some random missions and collected a couple of bounties. It's all good. There's some good info in this thread, especially about the submitting to interdiction being better because you have a better chance of escape. I appreciate the advice CMDRs.I still have my cobra so I feel like I haven't lost too much from this experience. I gained a lot of valuable knowlege which I can use in the future. :)
Glad to hear you're back at it with a good attitude!

I finally started trading rares once I was able to grind out enough creds to get my Cobra to this build [courtesy CMDR Ph0kas]:

The route is a wash and repeat cycle of Lave-Leesti-Diso-Orrere-Uszaa to Witchhaul-Fujin-39 Tauri-Zeessze-George Pantazis-Altair. There are many other variable and more valuable rare runs out there for other transport ships, but for my Cobra with this 56t build - fully laden nets me approx. 1.2M/hr.

One thing to note is this build has no shields. So as long as you don't fly into a sun, and your docking and station maneuvering skills are adequate enough to keep off the splattered walls of a station (don't hit boost in the mail slot), you should have nothing to worry about (except pirates of course). If given the option of giving up your cargo to an interdictor, you have to make that choice for yourself. But, remember; the value of your cargo is a huge consideration and they call it insurance for a reason :)

Keep to the skies with honor!

If you submit, you drop out of SC in a controlled way. You don't spin out of control like you do when you lose the interdiction.

Additionally, your interdictor will drop out of the minigame behind you if you submit. If you don't submit, and lose, they often drop out in front of you.

In short, you should always submit to interdiction, even if you intend to fight.

Couldn't have agreed with you more CMDR. Submit asap, gives me the time to then change pips, lock target and shoot MOST times first. In that instance, I get the opportunity of (1). assessing the enemy ship(TYPE). and attack it with the first pass. (2). If the ship is bigger, better etc. Then I'm able to boost, boost, boost. as I'm at this time heading away from the initial duel. (3). If its an Ai, lesser ship etc. Then I'm able to swing round for the next passing duel, and WIN!!!!!!. Thanks for reading.....

To the OP +1 Rep.

You had a set-back but you've pulled yourself back again AND you are in open.

Good Hunting out there and if you see me in local I'll not be the one shooting you.

And remember what Rocky Balboa said "...It aint how hard you can hit, it's how hard you can get hit and keep going!'
