It’s not a coding problem, Dev. designers don’t understand people. So they’re blindsided every time

Can someone prepare a TL: DR please?
I read some of it but couldn't get any sense out it.

Fdev need to hire a creative as they're all left brained developers, good with logic and maths but rubbish with understanding what the player base wants, good story telling and catering for all the different types, not just combat* - plus need NPCs as the galaxy feels sterile. Can't argue with that but maybe be less shouty.

* On Frontiers front page... 'explore, fight, mine, smuggle, trade and survive'

It's BOTH, a coding problem and a disconnection to you playerbase problem. This was demonstrated nicely by the whole Gnosis debacle.

How can you say that it is not a coding problem when people have to fight invisible Thargoids and the Gnosis defenses while trying to defend the Gnosis? Ships getting targeted while still in the megaship and blown up before the can leave the landing pad?
The whole event was a glitchy, bug ridden mess.

Apart form that, they threw a pew pew event at one of the biggest explorer gatherings in recent time.
The whole thing was a badly thought out and completely untested rush job.

Couple of things here that point to a multitude of problems;

Game design is lacking in that it seems that FDev went gung-ho with the initial Elite core game mode and then got lost along the way.
Game development is or appears bad because of the propensity to release code with more than an acceptable amount of bugs.
Game quality is there-fore reduced (non-existent) because of above.

I have no idea whose 'fault' in FDev it is, but I'd imagine there are a lot of things going on that we don;t know about. Maybe they're being rushed, maybe they're being told to develop for the shop, maybe maybe maybe

The reality is; What the players see. And it would appear that the players know way more than the design/dev team do. This may be down to them not playing as much or like we do.

I ultimately think, that the grand 10 years plan was a huge mistake and they should have concentrated on a single all-encompassing release, but again, maybe, they wanted money more than player satisfaction.

But one thing is for sure. Their Quality Control is or appears to be, non-existent, and that will bit ya in the bottom sooner or later.

All personal opinion and observations.

Are you sure? Ive never got the impression they actually care within reason and respect.

Every single thing done into and around elite has been frontiers idea. There has been all of one thing in the last 2-3 years where players opinion was used in anything more than "feedback".

Thats just how they roll.. you might be thinking about some other devs.

As usual, this is a complaint thread without a suggested specific fix. It's useless to complain about something without suggesting a specific change or fix that you'd prefer. "Make it fun" isn't specific - that can't be implemented by a developer. You have to be really specific.

I'm serious. Imagine you're the person in charge of FDev. You've told your team to permit-lock certain areas so that one day in the future you can put new content there. Now it's mid-August 2018 and a community manager comes to you and says, "uh boss, looks like we messed up and forgot to permit-lock a few systems inside this region, and the Cannon group has requested to jump in there."

Tell me VERY SPECIFICALLY what you would do. Specific. Not, "I dunno, do something smart." Tell me specifically what your plan is. I really want to hear it.

Hate to go against “78%” of the community, but I feel like there’s too many people that can’t appreciate things outside their comfort zone and expect their individual whims to be catered to.

Maybe it’s me, but I think that’s a poor attitude. Essentially “do what I want or I’ll complain about it.”

Honestly, I applaud FDev for having the balls to do something like this and rustle some people.

People need to be better sports, the way gamers today expect to be placated by developers is outright obnoxious to me.

“FDev don’t understand people!” Or, they’re building the game they want to build versus the game you want them to build. Considering the sustained interest in this game, I’d wager they’re not doing quite as bad a job as everyone whining on the forums suggests. Unless the game is also doomed now post Gnosis? Is it doomed?

That's a nice counterpoint. +1.

Yeppers... Confirme sightings of Explorers fleeing the bubble in droves... oh wait...

There are literally HUNDREDS in the suggestion subforum. No need to repeat them all the time. But the lack of proper gameplay elements is not only a ED problem its also appeared in thei latets jurassic Park game. Also their Planet coaster suffers fromt he same rather shallowness. Now unlike ED, rollercoaster games and even the Dino park game did exist in the past and had more depth. They clearly do have a designer issues with making proper engaging and deeper mechanics.
