General It's the year 3307! Let's review some tech

I did raise this point but....

We're just stripping out the boring bits, apparently.

If they're stripping out there boring bits why can't I strip out my boring bits and automate combat? I mean they don't have to use it, mind you fighting my flawless AI with fully engineered murder boat (because I automated engineering also of course) may have them complaining that's it's not right automate stuff "they" don't want automated!

If we all cut out the boring bits the game would become very streamlined and efficient...

10: Echo "Press E to exit"
20 if input$="E" goto 40
30 goto 10
40 End

You can automate combat: Hire a crewmember, equip only turreted weapons, kick your own hind-parts out the SLF launch tube... Done.

So much straw man.

For multi-hops, I'd like to see a mini-game challenge during the frame-shift loading screen. If you decline the challenge, you drop out at the intermediate destination star as normal. Beat the challenge you save some fuel and skip that intermediate destination star (saving time). If you accept and fail the challenge you get dumped into real space at a random location in the intermediate destination star system with minor damage to the FSD and a long cooldown before you can continue on your way.

And this:
Docking, Advanced Docking, Planetary Landing, and Supercruise Assist should all be A/B/C/D/E options on the slot that holds the Planetary Landing Computer with cumulative effects.:

E rated is nothing
D rated gets you planetary landings
C rated gets you docking
B rated gets you advanced docking
A rated gets you Supercruise Assist.

Too right...
...with the average tat pushed by some, what else would you expect?
My suggesting "A computer with varying levels of utility?"
I've made my peace with automation in this game. The Assist and Docking modules are "good enough" I suppose. I do think they should all be collapsed into a single module along with the planetary landing comp. I'd like the FS jumps to be more engaging gameplay - especially for longer travels.

There's a youtube video out there of a guy who's done some work with using image recognition and an expert system to effectively automate basic trading and traveling. I'm not posting links as I really don't want to get into the no-bot arguments, but the technology/ingenuity is pretty cool IMHO. It'd be fun to set up a dozen or so machines (in open) and mock-up a faction expansion in some corner of the bubble. Post the objectives and the progress and watch the community interact. One person could sustain an extended narrative in a way that's not really practical for groups. (yes I know the tools can be corrupted for evil... #thisiswhywecan'thavenicethings)

Frivolity aside - as my frivolous comment was misinterpreted.

I agree that the 'assistance' modules should all be integrated into the ship's own computer - with the options to enable or disable function as preferred - there are days I enjoy the leisurely approach of the DC - others it frustrates and gets switched out. (I roleplay the DC at stations being operated by Flight Controllers - and when the Cutter scrapes the inside of the slot put it down to animosity between them & me!)

Without getting into a 'botting' dispute, your second observation would be fun to watch too.

Apparently, Frontier confirmed a taxi "APEX" system is coming. Great news! Luckily I was not alone thinking that's a good addition!

Time to focus on fixing piracy now, please!
This is one of the additions I'm more than half-interested in too: We have yet to find out how 'far' we can travel with Apex - although, with players being able to play without needing a ship, it seems likely that the inhabited bubble is a possibility - but what about Colonia ;)

Fixing piracy gets a (y)too!

I wonder how they will explain it if Apex can get you 500ly in a few moments? or Colonia in 5 minutes etc.
Pug
I hope that's not the case. I really wanted a taxi service or a proper auto-pilot with jump capabilities not to make travel faster, but rather to be able to do some light multi-tasking and because jumping can be very repetitive. How nice would it be to be chatting with squadron, preparing for any operation in the target system, brewing some tea, etc, instead of jumping over and over and over.

I'm going to reset my account on release and experience elite on foot, and see how viable that life is. I'm excited for it because i do like that aspect of SC, and elite's universe is bigger and less buggy last i tried... (clipped out of my ship during quantum travel and lost everything)

@OP - I'd like to point out a couple of forum things.
  • Your title drew me in, but that wasn't actually a good thing. If there were an ability to down vote the thread, I'd be doing it because of the title
  • Multiple topics deserve multiple threads to keep the individual subjects focused
  • If there is already a thread with your topic, diffusing the topic by adding another thread is not only ineffective, it is annoying
For me, at least, you've put enough irritation factor into the post to have a negative overall mindset.
There's a thousand threads for every topic already, so you're best off to talk to the moderators about your third bullet, or retire the thought.
