It's time to remove the restriction on cargo when changing ships

Before any of you say "lol just buy a fleet carrier", that is exactly my point. Your cargo always transferred ships as you did and it now no longer makes sense for it to do so. I believe the original reasoning was to stop people hoarding Cutters/T-9s/T-10s full of cargo at low prices waiting to sell once the prices went up, and for Horizons I could understand that. However now that restriction is still in place despite the market balancing with supply/demand, AND we are allowing people to hoard up to 25,000T of cargo on their fleet carriers. The point is we shouldn't have to spend over five billion credits just to be able to keep those extra few limpets we left on our mining ship, or the 70t of minerals we forgot to sell before logging off or the hutton orbital mug we've been carrying around for years and now want to do another activity. And not to even mention for immersion purposes, when you change ships you physically move yourself to a different pad to your new ship, so you mean to tell me the station crew unloads all that cargo, carries it over to the opposite end of the station just to load it back onto another ship?

It has to end. Cargo should stay with a ship, not with a CMDR.

Say the cargo stays with the ship, that would mean that it would not be possible to transfer the ship to a new location as it has cargo aboard, bypassing any risk.

I'm pretty certain most people who play Elite play in either private groups or in solo. It's exactly the same as going into solo, moving the ship yourself, then logging back into open once you're in safety

Actually people pay dearly for owning and using a carrier.
So you should get one if you want to store cargo or to do micro jumps or maxi jumps (every 20 minutes)

But i guess it's simpler just to ask for the benefits without paying the price for them

Limpets should stay with the ship. Absolutely. 100% agree with limpets staying with the ship.

If you want to leave your ship stocked-up with limpets you should be allowed.

in what way is loading 20 T9s full of goods flying to your destination system once then transferring them all the same. You make the trip once with max jump range and are able to just sell all the cargo.

regardless im almost positive this is a database issue.

The database structure would also need to be changed to accommodate, that's probably the biggest hurdle, considering they won't give you more than 128 bookmarks.

Of course there always the other thing, stacking T9's full of cargo in a single station to wait for a good price for said cargo.....profit!

I think the other person meant you could move cargo around without the threat of getting ganked in open, you could load a ship with cargo and have it transferred to another sell station rather than flying it. But you can bypass this risk by flying it there in solo and then going back into open to resume play once sold.

Which is exactly what FC owners do anyway so whats the difference? Im not talking about hoarding 15-20 T9s to make profit, I'm talking about leaving your mining ship stocked with limpets so you're ready to hop in and go, or being able to leave a few tons of cargo in to resume gathering at a later date

You may not be talking about doing that but other people are also playing the game.

With a few restrictions, I think it's a valid suggestion:
  • Only one ship cargo can be stored per player. If you store your current cargo to this station, you can't fly to a different station and store more cargo there.
  • Can be different commodities, but must be stored in the same "batch".
  • You have to load/use/sell/destroy your currently stored cargo before you store any more on a station.
  • Stored cargo cannot be transferred to a different station remotely (like with ships/modules)
  • Your cmdr must be present on the specific station to interact with the stored cargo.
  • Cargo is perishable, lasts for one week or another prearranged time period.
  • No kittens must be harmed.

or leave it as it is, saving them from all the hassle of coding all this and saving us from dealing with all the resulting bugs :)

Add a remote sell option, and problem solved! Heck, I'd even settle for a "This ship currently has cargo that will be destroyed before transferring. Are you sure you wish to continue with the transfer?" confirmation dialog.

To be fair, it's more about "playing the game" to earn your profit. You could load up a dozen T9s, switch to your 70 LY explorer, jump to your target system far away, then transfer those T9s that would otherwise require a dozen jumps each along with the hassle of NPC interdictions. Personally I think the best option would be requiring all cargo be removed (sold remotely or destroyed at current station) before a transfer takes place. Another option would be to charge a "hazardous duty" fee for the guy piloting your ship dealing with all those interdictions, making it unprofitable to transfer loaded T9s.

Not "exactly."

I'm sure you're not thinking of doing this, but I bet people would. I'm all for your suggestion, don't get me wrong, I just think a simple safeguard (see above) would be needed to prevent abuse.
