Hardware & Technical Its your fault!!!

Dammit! It's all you who have ordered the damn X-55 Rhino Pro that I have to wait until OCTOBER to get mine! What in the world is wrong with you all?? I need it first, as my X-52 is squeaky and driving my wife nuts. Now cancel those orders or OR!! I shall ram you in my Lakon!

Respectfully,

It wasn't me, honest Guv.

I got the X52 (for which I've had to sacrifice Christmas and birthday presents for the next five years) a few days ago and to say I'm disappointed is putting it mildly.

The joystick half is superb if somewhat plasticky in feel but the throttle half... eurrgh! What a crap bit of kit. Squeeky (like you say), imprecise and way too light on the base.

Overall it's a piece of rubbish with few redeeming features.

Anyone want to buy an almost new X52? :D

Do you have the X-52 non-pro version like I have? If you do, then you know when you center the stick it drifts with FA off. This drives me mad. My stick is also so squeaky now that I can hear it squeaking with me earphones ON! Crazy it is man! And it drives me crazy! Going to the **** now!

Yeah it's the non-pro version but I don't have problems with FA Off or with the stick itself, it's the throttle part that's not up to the job.

I'm in a bit of a bind with it as my Other Half is not going to sanction a purchase of another set-up and I can't go back to using my 3D Pro as she's bound to notice.

I think I may be cauliflowered.

Well if there is anything wrong with either of your purchases - I'd contact the sellers and ask for an RMA.

Send them back for new ones.

Your joystick is driving your wife nuts..?

There is an inappropriate joke in there somewhere.

My X52 (non-Pro) was fine though a number of years old and hadn't been used for some years. Started playing ED and after a couple of weeks suddenly found that the calibration was way off. I think it's a short-circuit somewhere but opening it up and looking a la YouTube led me nowhere, so went for a cheap Thrustmaster instead. It does the job, but then I'm not really into serious dogfighting - if I were I'd probably go the whole Warthog (did you see what I did there? :D)

Joking aside - I really wouldn't put Vaseline anywhere near your joystick.

If it needs lubrication to avoid squeaking during a good waggling session - I suggest using lithium grease.

Don't put too much on - and if your stick is under warranty just send it back.

Yes it's an option but I think that I'd just end up returning them ad infinitum. It's an inherent design flaw as far as the base is concerned, it's just too light to be stable. As to the hump (detente?) at either end of the throttle range well maybe a different one wouldn't have that but I suspect that's what they're all like.

For the first time since I got the beta I haven't bothered with it at all today and that's directly attributable to the HOTAS.

Should've just held out until next year and got a CH stick/throttle combo or a Warthog setup even if it meant selling a kidney.

You live and learn.

The detents (humps) are there by design. If you want to take your X52 apart they are easily removeable.

Squeaking may be a design flaw - but it's not something I've experienced with either of the sets I use. They aren't too light to stick to desks - the suckers are pretty good, but a poor desk surface will mean they un-stick eventually as air seeps in.

I've tried suckers, Velcro, was even thinking about using the screw holes - and on my fakewood desk I have to restick them every few days. It's not a huge deal. On my GF's glass desk - it's basically impossible to move the things without prying the suckers up. We are both pretty happy with them.

I'm glad you're happy with your set-ups.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much but as it stands I can't be bothered
anymore, so I'm not going any further with ED for now.

In the meantime I've finally got round to putting X3AP on my pc and will play that instead. Never had a problem with a 16 year old 3D Pro stick and the X games.
