The TNG fan in me is like 'yeah! cool!'

Another part is like 'but.... why? Isn't he a bit old now?'

Yeh im not so sure about this either.... TNG is my Fav Tv show and it coming back or being used somehow has me concerned. Nothing good gets made anymore.

My bet is that Picard will be a teacher at star fleet academy in that terrible Teenage focused Show they want to make.
It will be Pimples... love interests...and god awful space age teenage Soap..

And my love for Startrek will die a little more inside.

Ehh it could be much worse. When I read the OP I instantly thought that they are making one of this prequels where my fav ST character would be playd by some spoiled college kid.
I absolutely love Patrick in ST, if he plays this iconic role still I'm good. But I also fear for the franchise after last awful movie and terrible TV serie, (yeah my avatar is from last awful movie..) so I share Vasco concerns.

Yeah, I feel ya.

Still we'll always have the original(s). Doesn't make it any less stupid for Paramount to keep milking the franchise, but.... these are the times we live in.

The Star Wars debacle doesn't give me faith in anything new from an established franchise. Maybe a new show based after Next Gen? Sick of these prequels, although ST:Discovery dropped a clanger and redeemed itself.

As much as I would love Jean Luc to come back. Im kind of tired of these series being milked dry.

We need some fresh source material.

My only fear is that they mess it up like they did with the new Discovery series. Otherwise than that, I'm actually looking forward to see what they will do with the ST show.

Discovery actually grew on me. I didn't think it would, but it did. It wasn't perfect by any stretch of course. You could argue that Trek reall isn't Trek anymore, either, but it was enjoyable. The mirror universe stuff was fun anyway.

Still, no one asked for a TNG reboot. At least Discovery tried a fresh take with new characters.

I say that, even Discovery is dragging back the Enterprise for season 2. So it, too, isn't above cashing in on well known characters.

This. Just this. And the guy that made the recent (terrible i would add) Star Trek TV series is involved so i would just expect to see Picard loose all the respect he deserves as one of Star Treks best Captains.

I would expect to see him be in constant fist fights with Klingons (and win) and go all 'screw the Prime directive! just nuke the whole f...in planet. Now!' kind of New Star Trek nonsense etc.

RIP Star Trek, let it die with it's dignity intact please.

A fist fight with a Klingon was a pivotal moment in Picard's life. Kirk fought Klingons all the time. Are these not Trek now?

But you did not read what i said, or avoided the key word 'constant' for some reason?

New Star Trek (starting with the reboot films) is just action schlock, with zero (as in '0'%) concern for character development or any semblance of believable actions from the characters in their scripts. Everyone is a (borderline psychopathic) war-monger now, every relationship one dimensional, every consequence unimportant. You are meant to sit back and enjoy the 'fireworks' display and nothing more.

This is not just New Star Treks problem, it is an industry wide problem. I don't think having Picard back will solve this, sadly.
