Discussion Journal Feature Request - Supply and Demand

Hello!

I attempted to do a search, but as searching doesn't seem to be allowed by specific forum, it was a whole lot of threads. I apologize if this is a duplicate request, but if anyone can point me to the original i'll happily consolidate my request.

I am wondering if it is at all possible to get Supply and Demand information written to the journal. This would allow third party developers to include a threshold, so that players don't travel across the system for one or two trades. :)

If there is a reason why this hasn't been implemented yet, i'd love to know that too, just to scratch that itch of wondering, "why not?"

Thanks so much!

This information is already being given via the API, once docked. EDDB maintains a database of the market info, via commanders uploading through apps like EDMC, EDDI, TCE, etc. The downside is the data can become 'aged' if the station is not being visited by commanders running an app.

Moving this functionality to the Journal is not feasible because, short of you selecting a station when plotting a route, the ED client can't read your mind as to which station you're traveling to (if any)... dumping market data for every station in a system, post jump, would put significantly higher demands on their (and your) network and the Journal text file would be huge and unmanageable. Shorter answer, I don't see this happening.

Hey Hoodathunk,

Appreciate the reply! I searched for about 15 minutes this morning and wasn't able to find the actual API calls... Maybe I stared right at them, but can you point me to it? I've found that EDMC and EDDN don't appear to update correctly at all times, and as a learning developer I wanted to investigate why so that perhaps I can contribute! I've been using etn.io, which is amazing, but I want to understand more about how these tools work and maybe take a crack at creating my own.
