Hardware & Technical Joystick recommendation? (not HOTAS)

I'm quite happy using the keyboard for throttle control and most other non-movement functions, so for me spending all that money on a HOTAS doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. But I am thinking of replacing my ancient Microsoft Sidewinder joystick as it's starting to feel a little soft.

Any recommendations for a good standalone joystick?

happy with a second hand F.L.Y. 5 i picked up for £20 but considering a game pad as getting out of my depth with all the keys and foundations scattered over the keyboard.

Alternatively would have gone for the thrust master hotas for £40-50 (tops)

Hi,

using the T-Flight X here (yes, NOT HOTAS), and I also play a combination keyboard/joystick. Works great for me.

I don't do 'quite' when it comes to happy. Why not get a nice HOTAS and be very happy?

What is your budget?

If you are concerned that a low budget will prevent your from purchasing a very decent entry level HOTAS setup then think again (as already mentioned).

Another one that gets regularly mentioned in the budget range is the T-16000M. It's a standalone joystick.

Thanks to all who replied; my other research also led me to think the T-16000M is the one for me. Thanks also to Amazon, who have promised to have it on my doorstep almost in time for Beta 2. :D

While I'm critical of the cost and assembly decisions, I'd say that the CH Fighterstick is an extremely good joystick. I've tested alongside numerous Saitek sticks and the feel, precision and tactile quality is in a different league. The same goes for the CH Throttle too, but only after the 'internal Velcro mod'....
