Hello everyone!

It is time for July's round up! Let's take a look at this last month and talk about any news you may have missed.

We introduced you to Young Mbazo, the incredible artists who work in collaboration with JJ Ipsen on the Planet Zoo theme song. In this video, Young Mbazo showcase their musicality, passion and dedication to the Planet Zoo vision. Watch them here.

We posted our fourth Developer Journal, in which we interviewed Principal Programmer Richard Thorn and Principal Animator Felix Ilsley about animals climbing in Planet Zoo. They shared how climbing is a unique behaviour and how it required some groundbreaking technology to achieve, explaining how they had to "try and get intro the mind of every single player who will pick up the game, and try to anticipate what they will build, given that they have limitless possibilities, and then try to get the animals to behave in a sensible and interesting way." You can read this Developer Journal here.

Our fifth Developer Journal focused on Zookeepers and Staff paths, and we spoke to Senior Audio Designer James Stant and Programmer Johan Holthausen to learn more about them. They shared that Zookeepers "are responsible for the welfare of the animals and the cleanliness of their habitats." Staff paths are an important feature of Planet Zoo as park guests will not like seeing staff buildings and Zookeepers will struggle to get around the park without them due to guests congesting the path. You can read this Developer Journal here.
On 1 July, we provided a first look at the Ring-Tailed Lemur, which are native to Madagascar. These omnivores are recognisable thanks to their pointed muzzles, cat-like ears and long stripy tails.

We learnt more about the Ring-Tailed Lemur, thanks to our Zoopedia Facts. You can vote on which animal you'd like to learn about by taking part in our Wednesday polls on social media. Did you know: the Lemur society is matriarchal; the females are in charge!

On Mystery Monday, we asked you which animal has a large polygonal spot pattern and a 45cm long tongue. The correct answer is the Reticulated Giraffe, which most people instantly guessed correctly!

139048

This piece-by-piece build area does not just provide these Reticulated Giraffes with shelter from the weather, but also gives them a space to rest privately.

Another Zoopedia Fact we shared this month: a male Indian Peafowl will shed its tail feathers in a two week period during late summer. It will spend its winter re-growing them in time for the next mating season.

Exhibit animals play a huge part in any zoo, and Planet Zoo is no different. Our exhibit animals provide your guests with a closer look at some of the world's most elusive animals.

139051

Speaking of exhibit animals, we celebrated World Snake Day by introducing the Boa Constrictor to our Planet Zoo exhibit animal list. Boa Constrictors shed their skin every 2-4 months as they continue to grow throughout their life!

139052

The Wildlife Tour is the perfect way to get around the zoo, as there's so much your guests will be able to see. Bring the wonders of the wild to them with your own Wildlife Tour tracks.

139053

Did you know the Common Hippopotamus has skin that is about 6cm thick and secretes a red substance that acts as sunscreen? Thanks to Zoopedia Facts, now you do!

139054

On 29 July, also known as World Tiger Day, we welcomed the majestic Bengal Tiger to Planet Zoo! Whilst endangered, they are the most numerous subspecies of tigers with over 2,500 left in the wild.

That's all for July. August will be a big month for us, as we will be at Gamescom with Planet Zoo playable on the showfloor; we will also be sharing loads about the Beta there! To keep up with everything Planet Zoo, follow us on our social channels, join the Zookeeper Zone for your weekly newsletter, and check the forums to keep up with all our posts.

See you next month!
