Just got back from a game break, what happened to invasions?!

I remembered when I stopped playing the Thargoid invasion seemed to die down a little.

Besides fighting a battle with that stupid new game launcher which totally does not work in normal mode (except showing "busy") I found ONE planet that is being invaded and already recovering. Was this supposed to be the galaxy wide war already? Back then when I started I already feared it might die down at some point. But come on, already? Or did I catch an unlucky week? What was it like recently?

Unfortunately, I do not see myself in a position to fight within a Thargoid controlled space without any repair options in the system.

You actually caught pretty lucky week, otherwise there would be no invasion at all.
Otherwise you are pretty much spot on.
Goid combat is now only in goid space in space czs only.
You can hunt orthrus if you find active alert, maybe you will even find a location that has reactivations. Given that the system is not already completed, then no missions no goids spawn.
Or you can get stalked by scythes if you get some escape pods.

Next invasions are probably going to be 21 September.

Broadly, the problem is that the Thargoids are being pushed back, but invasions rarely appear unless they're holding ground or ideally pushing forwards. On 21 September the consequences of some ambitious recaptures are probably going to give a few invasions that week ... but you'll want to plan to be there early in the week rather than at the end of it still.

Thanks, at least something. Your mysterious description makes me curious and reminds me I should catch up on Galnet news. ;)

Eh, I wouldn't hold your breath there. Ian's comment is (likely, shoot me down if I'm wrong!) more related to the mechanics of how invasions spawn, than any particular plot-relevant occurrence that would make more invasions occur.

Invasions don't last long these days because of the pushback.

Yes, this is correct.

The full details are quite complex - there's a link in my signature which covers more of the principles, and various third-party archives of week-by-week data to use that with - but in summary:
- the closer a system is to the Titan, the harder it is to defend / recapture (and inhabited systems are harder than uninhabited ones)
- if the Thargoids are defeated in a system there's a minimum time before they can retry
- on the 14th, two of the closest recaptures of inhabited systems are likely to be hit (Alert) at once: they will be eligible for reattack and positioned such that the Thargoids almost certainly will.
- it is very unlikely that players will be able to defend both of those and all the other inhabited Alerts in a single week: defending just one of them was what caused this week's Invasion.
- so, Invasions likely on the 21st

In a rather unfortunate way, at the moment Invasions are - on a strategic level - a punishment for being over-ambitious. Fortunately for those who find invasions fun to play, there are also those who find being over-ambitious fun strategically. It just takes a while to set up the right circumstances.

Thanks for the hints. I agree to your last statement. As long as the war (well, invasions / Thargoid battles) is not dying out permanently I am fine with a break. Gives me time to catch up on the latest developments and prepare for the next wave (hopefully).

Oh and while we are on it: how do people fight in Thargoid controlled systems given the fact there is corrosion happening all the time and no shipyards nearby?

Thargoid control systems don't have corrosion everywhere all the time.

The only corrosive environment exists around the Thargoid Titans in Maelstrom systems, and that's just a 50 or so km radius around the Titan.

The only system- wide effect is in Maelstrom systems, which only melts guardian fittings.

As for dealing with corrosion generally, your options are:
  • fit corrosive sinks to absorb the corrosion
  • fit decontamination limpets to remove the corrosion
  • heat your ship and cook it off, and use AFMU to repair modules damaged by the heat

... in order of preference.

No shipyards = repair limpets, AFMUs and synthing ammo. It's best to do it as part of a group so there are other people to keep instances open if you really need to go repair.
