Just ordered the tobii eyex

I assume it's stuck on with some double sided tape? probably would pry back off easily enough, perhaps some heat from a hair dryer to soften it.

If it is using a magnetic plate to attach to the computer, you can buy flexible magnetic strips which have sticky on their back. These are available in DIY stores for attaching temporary double glazing or draft excluders.

Was contemplating to get one (with the nice coupons/discounts). After taxes and shipping (+13, +20 € respectively) and shipping applied per item the deal is a bit less convincing.

Right now with the added info/understanding of yaw/pitch only I am back to undecided. On the other hand it is a lot less hassle to use compared to my trackir ...

If you have TrackIR already you should be able to offset the cost - they seem to sell well on ebay (unfortunately for me as I always lose the bidding)

it a very tough sticky adhesive most case you end up bending the metal plate if you try taking it off, but there been take about it in the tobii FAQ's to get the plates sold for people that want to buy extra plates.

Ordered mine using Obsidian Ant's code as well. Can't wait to us it! My only worry is how it will respond to my tendency to compulsively look at and check my radar and other panel information. I spend at least as much time checking my instruments as i do looking out the canopy. Then again, with being able to more easily follow my target I may not look at the radar and such as often.

Either way, still excited!

Just ordered one as well after seeing ants vid! Does anyone have a clear setup tutorial for horizons. Someone in a previous comment mentioned the need for Vjoy drivers being installed?!? This would be unfortunate as those drivers wrecked my audio midi controllers ability to interact with my audio production applications last time I tried them.

I would say that since it is fixed (via magnet) on the screen and should not move, it does not matter (except if you plan to travel with)...unlike dat cheap plastic clip of the TrackIR...

Considering how expensive the TrackIR is (can't be ordered in-country here in Ireland, which ramps up the price more) it's a very flimsy, cheaply made piece of kit. The EyeX looks far more solid.

I've ordered it to try using with my iMac, but it has a large "chin" below the screen which means the EyeX will be much lower than normal; hopefully that doesn't affect accuracy. Does anyone know how it works in bright light? I play in a room with the (non blackout) curtains closed, and still the TrackIR is utterly unusable when it's bright daylight outside. It doesn't even have to be direct sunlight to be rendered inoperable.

Two small potential downsides I've noticed:

- When searching the ground in my Asp with head-tracking, I can keep my head steady and move my eyes down to scan the terrain below without activating the annoying "crotch screen". With eye tracking, that screen will activate every time. I can't look down without activating it.

- It's not cross-platform, unlike some other eye-tracking solutions like Eye Tribe. Then again, there's zero official TrackIR support for Mac either (not sure about Linux) so it's probably par for the course.

Question for someone who got theirs already ... how long is the USB cable that comes with it?
it's about 1.8 meters

Thanks - that's quite handy. But I actually do like the ability for them to auto-appear generally. What would be great is a button you can press which overrides that setting without having to keep going back to that Options screen and changing that popup.

So I could set it to "Focuses this pane" for general usage. But when I'm hovering over a planet and want to look around, I hold that button and look about and the screens don't auto-popup.

Damn! :( Ordered! :)

Heh this is how I feel.

They look awesome for ED but £100? Despite the discount it's still a decent chunk of cash.

Also if you look at the list of supported games, outside of ED it doesn't seem like it'll get much use (at least for me).

The way I'm looking at it is, I have lifetime on ED so I *should* get quite a bit of use out of the EyeX. And given how well people are saying it works, I don't think it's going to be something that's chucked in a drawer after a few weeks, never to be used again.

i have seen it yesterday night on YoutTube in a video from ObsidianAnt - direct bought with code .... next month comes my X55.

Cost me around 125,00 € incl. Tax and Shipping.
Shipping time 3-4 weeks ... *doh!*

i can tell more when its delivered.

I was thinking about upgrading to this from the EDTracker and now I'm sold :)
Just gotta wait for my AdSense to hit my payout (only $1.69 more and google will send me $100, woot!)

Anyone tried it with DCS World as well? Opinion?

I worry about the max range of the sensors. I found some information from january 2014 that the recommended distance ist 45-75cm. I think thats the reason they only recommend up to 27" screen size. I have a 34" 21:9 curved monitor (thanks for the 900€ investment Obsidian :p ) and my head is about ~80-90cm away from the monitor.

I'm eager to buy this thing, but it would be an additional investment for ED and I don't want to wait 3 weeks in anticipation only to send it back shortly after.
Can some of you test how well it handles with 80-90cm distance? Preferably the 21:9 users, but any information is much appreciated :)

Well, you will have to wait until mine arrives then, I'm at a similar distance in my Obutto.

I suspect you might be able to move the sensor closer if need be, albeit with reduced accuracy.

But really for moving ED's viewport I don't think it needs to be super accurate anyway.
