JWE 2

I made a thread showcasing a quite extensive Google document I made. I think it would be a great blueprint for JW:E 2

Nicely thought out. Think there is room for a lot more but at least it has those holes for flexibility. Especially for progression and introduction for more than what JWE presented. :)

I sincerely hope that improved animal animation is a priority. I find that when the bipedal dinosaurs run, the hips and spine are really flexible like a mammal. It should be super rigid like a bird's spine and pelvis. Anyone here who's prepared a whole chicken knows what I'm talking about.

They aren't birds though. They are reptiles. I hope there is more personality and better imitation of life like that of living creatures.

Dinosaurs, especially the theropods are much closer to modern birds than they are to reptiles. This means that if you're going to look for modern references for how the spine and hips behave during motion, the best place too look is among the birds. Look at these videos as an example. Another really good reference is JPOG as those walk cycles are what I'm talking about.

I would have to disagree. A bird has to be symmetrical for flight/function and balance/shifting of weight unlike a dinosaur with more shifting of weight. Another reason is that a bird's thigh bone (femur) is inside the body unlike that of theropods. The sturdy flexibility of bird bones are nothing like that of dinosaurs (reptilian). Dinosaur bones are hefty and packed a great mass of muscle. Even those known to have hollow bones unlike their kin. The taking of samples of fossils, of the organs of dinosaurs are identical to reptiles of today. The lung capacity and mass along with the space for development of eggs for birds is significantly different than that of dinosaurs which are more like the reptiles we know of today. The scales of dinosaurs are the similar if not same of reptiles of today. Not of the scales/skin of those found on birds. The double breast muscles of birds are not found on dinosaurs or any other animals. Not to mention what their DNA, bacteria and soft flesh are meaning for the creatures they are and when they actually did live on this Earth. Is there some similarity to that of birds in the walk. Sure but the same could be said for a person walking or running with the ball of their feet or the action of hind legs of a mammal. My conclusion is that dinosaurs are reptiles and birds are birds.

It brings that the dinosaurs are walking, running and such pretty well in the game as it is according to that conclusion. Is it perfect? No, as some of the animations have quick stops and short cuts. Be nice if they are a little varied. Even interaction with them and the environment kinda messes up the immersion. Which I'm sure could be improved on JWE2. The shifting of weight, can be fine tuned as well as some physics. I enjoyed the resting, eating, wandering and such animations. I really would have liked it to be expanded upon which is one thing I'm hoping in JWE2. I really hope for great moments in it. :)

Just another plead for JWE2 here. Probably something along these lines has been mentioned before. I just noticed the distribution of 'all time peak players', '24hr peak players' and 'current players' for JWE, Planet Zoo and Elite: Dangerous. JWE stands out on both having the biggest amount of 'all time peak players' and .... the smallest amount of both the 24hr and current players. I bet a lot of people came for the JP/JW IP, yet in Planet Zoo more people stayed, because of the depth of gameplay. Which just leads me to think about the awesome number of players Frontier can have and keep if they build a possible JWE2 on a similar gamedepth as the planet series.

It has been mention about the potential from the developers as well as from the fan base. However JWE2 would be different to that of PZ since based on a franchise property. Story, interactions, events, AI, design and so on can be vastly improved. Not a plea for JWE2 but a reasonable and smart move as there are so many fans of the franchise, so much potential and the franchise is growing. It would just make good sense but of course we'll see if Frontier picks it up officially or not. Given that JW3 is not until 2022. We should hear something sometime next year, I believe. :)

What do you mean with shifting of weight? Both birds and dinosaurs have tails to diminish unstability. And thigh bones being outside on theropods... What?
Birds have scales on their feet just like the dinosaurs did. Not just reptiles.

Similarities between birds (which is technically consired a reptile) and dinosaurs:

  1. Pubis (one of the three bones making up the vertebrate pelvis) shifted from an anterior to a more posterior orientation, and bearing a small distal "boot".
  2. Elongated arms and forelimbs and clawed manus (hands).
  3. Large orbits (eye openings in the skull).
  4. Flexible wrist with a semi-lunate carpal (wrist bone).
  5. Hollow, thin-walled bones.
  6. 3-fingered opposable grasping manus (hand), 4-toed pes (foot); but supported by 3 main toes.
  7. Reduced, posteriorly stiffened tail.
  8. Elongated metatarsals (bones of the feet between the ankle and toes).
  9. S-shaped curved neck.
  10. Erect, digitgrade (ankle held well off the ground) stance with feet postitioned directly below the body.
  11. Similar eggshell microstructure.
  12. Teeth with a constriction between the root and the crown.
  13. Functional basis for wing power stroke present in arms and pectoral girdle (during motion, the arms were swung down and forward, then up and backwards, describing a "figure-eight" when viewed laterally).
  14. Expanded pneumatic sinuses in the skull.
  15. Five or more vertebrae incorporated into the sacrum (hip).
  16. Straplike scapula (shoulder blade).
  17. Clavicles (collarbone) fused to form a furcula (wishbone).
  18. Hingelike ankle joint, with movement mostly restricted to the fore-aft plane.
  19. Secondary bony palate (nostrils open posteriorly in throat).
  20. Feathers and Protofeathers.

I was just stating that I disagree as I know dinosaurs to be reptiles and birds to birds. Not saying that there isn't some similarities as that can be said of animals on the most basic levels.

When I talked about the shifting of weight. The center of balance is more precise on a bird due to needing it being symmetrical in order to achieve flight. Even though bird tails can attribute to balance it isn't a part of the issue of having precise number and location of feathers on both sides of the body. Otherwise the bird wouldn't be able to fly.

A dinosaur is like a version of an alligator or lizard that can hold dense muscle due to the skeleton versus that of a bird that can not and doesn't. The bones density of a dinosaur versus that of a bird is of course more dense and compact. There are those dinos that do have some hallowing out of bone but the construction is nothing like that of a bird's. To say they are similar is just as saying it can be compared to the hallowing of any other boned creature. Though each has different levels and construction of those hallowing bones.

The thigh bone also known as the femur are visible when looking at that of a reptile, mammal and human. They are not visible with birds as they are housed within in helping with keeping to the stability of balance as well as for flight to be achieved. Even birds that are flightless, have their femurs invisible in comparison to reptiles (dinosaurs).

The so called scales on bird's feet are not the same as that of a reptile. Same as the skin of a bird is not the same as a reptile. Reptile skin/scales can't house feathers. Dinosaurs don't have feathers as they are reptiles. I know there were several people once upon a time said that is what they found but it wasn't true. Many recanted but several don't even though the evidence shows that as these reptiles have scales and not bird like skin nor feathers. The soft stretchy flesh of dinosaurs even prove this further.

We could go through the differences and similarities of the dinosaurs to others just we could for any other animals. The differences make the biggest part to that of birds and that should be the focus as it surely shows that they are reptiles. The fossilized organs of dinosaurs are identical to reptile organs of today. Not birds, not mammals, nothing but reptiles and so are many other things.

However we know that this franchise holds strong to the narrative when speaking of dinosaurs and similarities to birds as Alan Grant as said a few times. Even to the concept of evolving into birds which I know not to be true but that's that.

A good read if you are interested would be: "Dinosaurs: Marvels of God's Design" by Dr. Tim Clarey.
"Separating Fact from Fantasy in Paleontology" by Dr. Jerry Bergman

Getting back to the animations, they could be smoother and I hope in JWE2 that they will be.

There’s this great new mechanic called the Charter System. Go see Conor on YouTube. It’ll make for better gameplay.

Do you have a link?

When looking at this trailer. Would we not like some of the things presented to be in JWE2? Like the cursor when using terrain tools as in the trailer? The interaction with the TRex with the man in trouble and then the other that is trying to save his life then eventually gets eaten. The killing of one of the herd, the TRex doing a Victorious Roar/Trophy Kill pose on the damaged jeep that could be entered into JWE2.

Even in the RtJP trailer, there were things like the Brachiosaurus eating from a tree and a group of Dilophosaurus surrounding a jeep that arent in the final game. Now I don't wanna call anyone names but that was scummy behavior on Frontier's behalf.

Yeah, it would have been nice to see all that in game. It was definitely some potential. Since it seemed like an idea that got the hype and awaiting for actaul gameplay. I can only hope some of that will enter in JWE2 and more. With it highly being likely that JWE2 would be revealed next year. I wonder if they will drop another trailer like this or will it be better and actaul footage ingame?

First of all, great post! You hit all the things that need to be done. You did touch on this, but I don't think you or bestinslot did enough. Story. I love JWE, but the story just isn't that great. Actually, it isn't great at all. The main story is pretty much the three factions giving you special missions on each island, with Malcom, Finch, Wu, Clare & (NOT CHRIS PRATT) Owen occasionally saying some remarks. Secrets of Wu does have a decent plot, the factions are hesitant to Wu's orders and Wu is making you do specific scientific research. But that's all. The other dlcs have a little bit of this but not worth noting. All this is fine with me for the first game, they probably were busy with game mechanics and design. But now they have a good amount done, the sequel will probably run on the same inGen (get it, engine/inGen? Oh, i'm so funny.) so they wont have to spend so much time developing the game, which means they can spend more time on the plot for the sequel.

Three things that NEED to be implemented in the sequel.
AKA Story need list:

1) A plot that carries through all the islands (assuming we still do that in the sequel)
Like I already said the only story is the missions. In the sequel the missions can't be just be missions, they have to be stories. It's simple, the story would start at the first island and then build upon its self as you progress through islands. For example: You do the stories for a few islands and your dinos get sick or die. Then security tells you that, plot twist! Science has been poisoning your dinos! You ask science and she says that she has evidence that security did it. Then you have to decide who to trust. At the end of the game it was entertainment playing them the whole time.

2) The factions sabotage each other. Not just you.
This expands upon the first one mostly. Sabotage in the game is an ok at best function, whenever you ignore a faction too much they, open gates or cause a power outage, only hurting you. You can see that the factions hate each other, but they take out their anger on you. In the sequel there need to be a function where one faction will harm another, whether it be out of hate, fear, love or greed. Not just in the story but in the regular game also.

3) More characters.
At the beginning I stated there are there are the factions and five others talking to you. That's great and all, but they don't have much to say. There need to be: more faction members, privet investors & enemies. There doesn’t really need to be more factions at the moment besides maybe public relations. But seeing more members in factions would be a cool mechanic but, not needed. Privet investors like (If you’ve seen Camp Ceat.) Kenji’s dad asking for you to put stuff in for them, or naming buildings or dinos after them. Enemies like Biosyn or Manta Corp. should have more effect on the plot. In RTJP Finch stops Biosyn, but it doesn’t have effect on the plot or gameplay. If your enemies try to spy/sabotage on your park they could team up with faction to make the story more interesting.

My top Three things that will more likely then not, never see the light of day.
AKA Story wish list:

1) Multiple endings.
If the story did go something like my scenario, and you could chose who to trust. It would be cool if there were at least 3 different endings one for each faction you trust, maybe another if you didn’t trust any.

2) Even more characters
If there could be more interactions between you and shops, just for laughs there could be a guy named Josh who is a self proclaimed faction of fast food. Another one could be a rival. On isla Taccano there was an in debit park, who was in charge? Are there more parks besides yours? An interesting thing could be a rivalry between your and another park. Maybe he/she just brags all the time and rip off of your parks or he/she is just nagging you for ideas and approval.

3) Last and most definitely least
A random love triangle between the factions for no reason.

Hope you liked my lists and reasons.

As much as I can agree with wanting a better story and campaign. We want more of an essence of what makes JP/JW into the game. It isn't suppose to be like any other run of the mill management game or zoo tycoon like deal. I think if all these things especially with the animals, interactions, personality, functions along with guest, buildings, units and so on. All mixed into random and a variety of situations/events dramatic and cinematic scenes, emotions and such. Would put this in the sweet spot that we all want. We want that thrill from the franchise, a more compelling story with characters that we enjoy, to enjoy our animals in all aspects whether playing, grazing, hunting, fighting, breaking out and so on. any moments within the franchise can be reinvented for the game without making it a full blown thriller/action/rpg/survival like game I'm sure. Even though I would really like one of those eventually for the franchise. It would be nice to invent new ways in interacting with our parks and be a bit more intimate with the details so that we are brought in into the immersion. The espionage, even though they touch on it and the factions. They are a means to an end really. In truth, I would like it if we can advance more in our progress to start apprehending those that do such to our parks and bring them down. Even take them down just like dino if need be. If you are making buck and you have someone or something that is trying to ruin, steal or destroy your success or even opt you out to be a failure. You would take extreme measures to ensure your interest are well preserved and protected. That is something that should be added into the mechanics. Especially with JW Dominion. You or we have competition for who can make the best dinos and get the most guest. Which makes that more of a breeding ground for espionage to take place. Even against your own people, which in turn against your guest and animals. Going full cycle of why we as players would have to take more drastic and extreme safety measures of our animals, guest, employees and our interests.

Definitely a lot of potential for so many games. Would even enjoy Lego to come out with another Lego JW game. :)

What if they would do JP/JW Warpath 2? Or another story like game that would have the player play as dinos and main characters? So many awesome games could spawn from this franchise. :)

Definitely need more shock and awe with our dinos. You would want to hear... "Did it just? What the...? WOW that just happened? and so on."

I fully agree with all that you've said, the top priority should be to better the game; mechanics, looks ect. I was just saying that bettering the story would be great also. (p.s. I also love the lego jw)
