Keyboard support support arrives 14th November. Will FDev support it?

Ugh, I am dealing with another game on PC that is forcing me to use Keyboard and Mouse when I can't use my HOTAS. For me growing up as a console player with a controller, this keyboard and mouse thing sucks big time.

Call me when we get Cross-Play!

For those that “hope not”, how do you bind all actions to a controller?

This isn’t about forcing an option, is about giving options.

Couldn't care less. Hooray for all that waited for it.
I will stick to my HOTAS and not taking hands off it for anything.
It's an option not a requirement.

Apparently, someone isn't aware of or know how to use the "CONTROL" in the games start menu. With little or no exceptions, everything can be configured or reconfigured by the use of using the reconfigure menu. I'm able to assign a button or button in various combinations to do everything I do in the game on my hotas. How when one is required to use both hands on a controler or hotas, would one be able to reach over and utilize a mouse and or keyboard? That in addition to the cost of constantly upgradeing a pc, I buy and utilize a console in the first place.

I don't want Elite to require a keyboard. I don't want any game to require a keyboard.

I see the logic behind your point.

I disagree however.

In my humble opinion, if we want games to grow, we're gonna' need bigger control options.

This isn't new. Let us not forget that only in 1990, the biggest gaming system at the time, only had six buttons and a four-way D-pad. I of course refer to the SNES.

Just a few years prior, the biggest system of the 80's, the NES, had two buttons less. And a few years after 1990, a certain system called the PlayStation introduced us to the analog sticks we now rely on for just about every 21st century title on consoles.

Massive control requirements aren't going to be restricted to PC gaming for much longer. Consoles have slowly been increasing in their interface demands over the years.

Why do you think that trend is going to stop all of a sudden? Because that isn't how peripheral development works...

I give it three years and you'll all be using a keyboard daily on your games.

The future is only getting closer, and there is no escape.

Adapt or get left behind. Wanting development to stop is pretty damn selfish IMO.

I don't know you can get from not wanting a keyboard next to my hotas on the sofa to wanting all development to stop. You play on PC, of course you want consoles to be like PC.
They're not. They have their function and if they become more like desktops, I'll have no use for them.

Better than taking this path

PC costs aren't that bad. Yeah, the entry is higher, but if you buy good parts then you'll only need to upgrade the GPU mid-life.

By the time it's time to build a new system, the console users will be presented with a new system to buy anyway.

Here's the thing though... You can still use your older PC hardware for as long as you like. Console users HAVE to buy the new system to play the lateset games. PC users don't. If it works then why upgrade? That's why I'm still using my GTX 960 4GB. Only ever considered a budget card but it still offers slightly-better-than-console performance.

People who complain about endless upgrades for PC "every six months" are the ones buying trash parts that are already totally obselete. My system is not that, hence I enjoy ED so much on PC even after four years of running the same system.

So much for upgrades "every six months"... Only upgrades I've made were cosmetic. An overkill CPU cooler and a fancy case, plus a network card for high quality WiFi.

Funnily enough, there are a few M&K options now available specifically for those who want the "sofa experience" on PC.

They are extremely high-quality.

All yours for just a tenner more than a standard Xbox Controller, half the price of an Elite, and with massively superior interfacing.

I forsee a surge in such products, in a couple of years.

They messed up the design due to there not being enough grip to stop the mouse sliding... with minour movement of the knees from 100% level...

In the OTHER Xbox K&M topic, lunch tray tables and mounting brackets/hinges are used to make desks that can be removed after game play very easy...

The Other console users have been using this to play.. fortnite, warframe, war thunder, and FF14 with K&M (or trackball)..

Don't know about you but when I play Skyrim my hand never leaves the mouse. You only need one hand for your keyboard.

Eat and drink while playing need 4 hands not only 2... combine this With cut scenes and loading screens and bath room brakes the mouse will end up off the "on knee" desks... and on the floor, standing tables for couch use don't have this issue as they are fixed and level... but they do need the couch to be raised of the floor most times for the legs to side under the couch...
