Keyboard support support arrives 14th November. Will FDev support it?

I thought I'd been clear. Doesn't matter. I welcome the option, I don't want it to be a requirement. That's all.

ah, i see the phrasing i guess caught me a different way i understand better now, and no I agree it shouldnt be a REQUIREMENT by any mean, no play style or input method should be a REQUIREMENT but yes i would also welcome the option

It's not a requirement. If you choose to handicap yourself with that garbage joke of a HOTAS feel free. Until M$ or FDev implement some type of curves and settings for it, it's a paper weight.
No one is forcing you to use a KBM setup. Same as PC. Multiple input methods.

I like flying FA off. KBM makes it easier to do. I'm all for KBM.

FDev would be foolish not to add it on console.

If you use a KBM because you find it easier, that's fine too. I like flying my spaceship with a flight stick

With a controller is not a fun experience 😂

And think of the immersion, getting a backlit keyboard and sitting it on your left side just like your ships cockpit

Adding KB support would do something unheard of.... fdev would actually please the whole player base.

I've ordered this, with the nice'n'loud blue switches. It should arrive where I'm at in about 3-4 weeks. It's going to go between my throttle and stick, with this laptop on my left, once I finish building this custom table I designed. Photos will be forthcoming eventually, as will be the plans if anyone wants to modify them for their own ends.

Even if we don't get keyboard support, it is still a cool addition and will get good use for search bar and text comms in ED.

How is adding an option one can or utilize or not, depending on ones choice; Be a bad thing? This game has so many options now one can utlize or not, one more wouldn't hurt. And while there at it, having a undocking computer would also make a good option.

Hotas players in PVP will be worried just like controllers users already don't want to fight hotas users if possible...

Fortnite has banned K&M forced against Controller for this reason you can opt in to a K&M lobby but K&M can not join controller only lobby...

Yes if you use K&M you can not join controller only lobbies if you play on K&M and your friends play in controller only lobbies you will not be able to join them...

Epic games has confirmed that they think you are at a disadvantage using a controller 100%, so much that they made controller only lobbies... and will not allow K&M in them...
If you play with K&M you will face K&M players then plus optional controller players....

If this is duplicated by other developers or enforced as a requirement by Microsoft to pass QA on the patch for K&M it will split the user base on other titles...

This is what other developers on console titles are worried about with K&M as it will put pressure to increase server costs in multiplayer vs titles and require splitting the user base...

you know.. Give Epic credit for making a popular shooter, sure.

But they made the wrong call by not mixing the population of controller and keyboard players.

Skillbased match making will sort that out for them and give everyone more than enough people to play with for decades.

Developers are over thinking this stuff and they need to stop it.

Nope pro teams with controllers are still handy capped... as they were when epic games added K&M on other console titles... as far back as PS3 and Xbox 360...
Activision found that out the hardway with black ops, they ran a Pro team event and Hori who make K&M emulators, they crushed the pro teams so badly activision quit the planned deal with Hori for the black ops game...
Hori had to dump the box art...

Though correct to some degree, one could state the same thing about engineering vs non engineering. Or the ability to play for longer durations vs shorter durations and the skill level one can aquire by doing one vs the other. There are some pc player that utilize any and all variation of control and some that don't yet, they all manage to play. Though there are a lot of individuals subscribed to this and other forums, one can only assume that the unscribed have the same issues on their individual platforms as we subscriber's do. Personally, I like haveing choices, ED gives me a lot of choices, some I like and partake in, some I don't and don't. But I still like haveing the various choice's available, in the event that I choose to alter my personal play style. Until the advent of the new engineering process last Feb of this year. I loathed with all my heart, engineering. Since then and ownly to a small degree, have I altered my original way of thinking and now find engineering a viabale thing to do. Same goes for pew pew, I completely disregarding anything to do with it. Until a few months ago, when it was at my choice to get involved and learn how it can be a significant asspect to playing ED. My form of OCD didn't allow me to learn all the aspects at the same time, thus I learned one, then an other. Thankfully, I could do it that way because I had the choice. Though helpful in some aspects of the game, engineering and pew pew are not a mandate to playing this game and having fun. CHOICES are a good thing!

All this talk of advantages... Do y'all even play Forza on Xbox?

I'm very good friends IRL with one of the best racing teams there is... None of them use a £40 gamepad, that's for sure. They all use steering wheels and pedals that are worth more than the Xbox itself. And that's an X...

Microsoft doesn't give a damn about "advantage". If it makes money it gets a pass.

Now yes, Fortnite segregates players on input. Cool. War Thunder doesn't, at least last I played. So that's a game that puts paid to your little fantasy that all devs care about fair play out the window...

I hope Razer shows Microsoft the market for keyboards. There's a good chance the floodgates will be opened then, and I will drown in the flood.

So on to Macro keyboard vs No marco support Keyboard
So as most Keyboards with macro commands built in support 10-12 macro keys what would be your top 10 macros to copy from PC if Keyboard was to be fully supported

My top 8 are...
Yes key number 1
Would all be Log out and log in again automaticly with 1 key press
Key 2 to 4 would be automatic full power switching
Key 5 would be automatic fighter 1 launch and target target.
key 6 would be automatic fighter 2 launch and target target.
key 7 would be deploy SLV and deploy scoop.
Key 8 would be deploy scoop and fire off collectors...

So what would you add to key 9-12...
Full keyboard support will also mean macro Key programing...

I'm not positive but don't "Macro's" involve having to download third party programs such as "Voice Attack" or what ever it called on to or into ones device. How would one go about downloading Voice Attack to a console?

Sorry macros keys might be called "Gamer" keys... or progamable keys now a days, there extra keys on keyboard more than normal... that the users can set to repeat any key commands in a sequence with out a PC application...
like setting.
(start setting on G1 key) escape, up, x, right, x, wait 10 secs, down, x, down down, x (end setting ) and the G1 is now set.. this should auto log out and auto log in to the game...

I think the initial comment came because this is the Xbox One section and so keyboards like that would not apply to consoles as you cant install that software.

May be but they don't require any software, zero, now The internal hardware and memory of the keyboard does it all, like the custom controllers you can buy that let you program button combos for Street fighter or soul caliber to the buttons, perfect combo after a single button press... No PC needed to program them...

I see the logic behind your point.

I disagree however.

In my humble opinion, if we want games to grow, we're gonna' need bigger control options.

This isn't new. Let us not forget that only in 1990, the biggest gaming system at the time, only had six buttons and a four-way D-pad. I of course refer to the SNES.

Just a few years prior, the biggest system of the 80's, the NES, had two buttons less. And a few years after 1990, a certain system called the PlayStation introduced us to the analog sticks we now rely on for just about every 21st century title on consoles.

Massive control requirements aren't going to be restricted to PC gaming for much longer. Consoles have slowly been increasing in their interface demands over the years.

Why do you think that trend is going to stop all of a sudden? Because that isn't how peripheral development works...

I give it three years and you'll all be using a keyboard daily on your games.

The future is only getting closer, and there is no escape.

Adapt or get left behind. Wanting development to stop is pretty damn selfish IMO.

IMHO Consoles are becoming very much like Macs, they are fixed architecture gaming boxes, the XB1 compared to the 360 has a UI that is more in line with a PC, I presume to make using Win10 on a PC an easy step back or forwards, adding keyboard and mouse support has been tried before with consoles, the PS1 had a mouse that did make certain games much more playable but the problem is, IMO, that console gamers like to sit on a sofa / comfy armchair, where do you fit a keyboard / mouse setup? Only option is to have a table / desk, not very console though hence the consoles now are becoming more like Macs.
