Killed in a span of seconds by NPC

Ok, which were the 'blatant' lies exactly?

Well the one about the chaff being endless is false, at least. Tested it myself unless the NPC just decided to stop firing it after ten times. But lets be honest here. Do NPC's ever last long enough in a fight for them to run out of ammo or chaff? Naah. Spot on about them being dumb and also sniping you with rails from 3k out. They're godawful with PA's and dumbfires, though. Or maybe i'm just good at dodging. You know, whenever I see them fire a PA or dumbfire I just change direction laterally or horizontally and it always misses. Unless they fire from real close up, that is. Hi how are you? what were we talking about again?

Hello,

After returning from almost 2 year hiatus I was refreshing my feel to the game and went some bounty hunting to nearby RES. After opening fire on a wanted Vulture I got obliterated in a span on 7, maybe 8 seconds by the Vulture. I didn't even have time to press hotkey for SCB or try to boost away before my hull ran out. I have absolutely no clue what happened since last time I played, I had quite easy time on even against larger ships with my Python. Getting killed in a span of seconds doesn't feel quite right especially when the Python is fitted with the best shield/armor you could get.

Are NPCs getting boosts or something or what gives?

These threads always go the same way, Arrak. Someone like yourself asks a genuine question and a whole bunch of sanctimonious gits rock up to pontificate the same old mantras- variations on either 'git gud' or 'zomg the AI is so OP since the last patch'.

I think a couple of things happened to you. You're rusty, which gave the AI an unusual advantage. That'll wear off over the next few sessions. But you're right, NPCs have had a balance pass (or two) and they're now set up to offer some challenge to average pilots in engineered ships. They hit harder, they shoot straighter, their shields and hull are tougher than they were before engineering became a thing. Some of the higher ranked ones have had a tweak to their AI and get engineered weapons to boot.

It's not a major blow. After you get back into the swing of things you'll probably enjoy the extra challenge. And as some of the guys posted, you can engineer your ship. You can massively improve your shields, you can add special effects to your weapons to just tear through NPCs. Just take it easy until you're comfortable again and you'll be fine.

A chaff module has 10+1 ammo. You can check how many chaff modules an NPC has, which tends to be one. I am going to go ahead and assume you can count to 11. An NPC with one chaff module doesnt chaff more than 11 times. Which, to a crappy pilot, means 11x10+10recharge=220 seconds of chaff. That sure is a lot if you rely on gimbals, but it isn't cheating. And if my assumption is correct, you know it. Go check for yourself, and record a vid by all means if you catch an NPC chaffing more than it can. :)

Or just repeat the same stuff over and over no matter how often people explain to you you are wrong. That is also an option, of course. :)

AI has been receiving a number of boosts, and high-end NPCs are no longer the complete roll-over unless you either are very good or have a very well modded ship. It'll take some adjustment, but I am sure you'll enjoy combat even more when you get back in the saddle. :D

Hmm yeah I fought a PP Krait Phantom in my Corvette the other night and while the shields it had were made of paper, it's hull was nigh on indestructable. It also had a large PAC which for some reason, was capable of melting my shields very quickly. I eventually took care of it but that one NPC seemed to have its stats scaled up to 11. Dumb as a brick mind you, as the NPCs tend to be.

If you got killed in a matter of seconds either you had a paper build or it was a player. I think the 2nd is more likely, especially if it was at a CG or other hotspot.

Something isn't quite right here.
Posting your build would help.

It sounds like a player to me too.
