Krait Mk. II, it's now a Python analog

I believe I saw a very brief jump trail. What caught my attention is that it jumped from inside a ring, meaning NO MASS LOCK

It just looks better when the jump happens with asteroids nearby.

Guys... the entire thing is cinematic. Read ZERO into it. It's made purely for aesthetics.

It is not the amount,
it is the size.
There are less tools in the large calibre than there
are in small or medium:
No large verions of...
... railgun
... missile
... torpedo
... mine
... powerplay weapons

The guardian stuff is coming as large weapons,
that one is interesting, but for the shady trades
one needs engineered tools with special effects.
That is lacking in the large category.

There are no experimental weapons in small size either... :( medium size stuff get's all the fun.

Medium sized is the new small.

If I remember correctly FDev even mentioned in one of the recent streams that medium sized ships are where the "fun" is in their opinion. The whole game is more and more based around medium sized ships - weapons, missions, multi-crew.

Small ship pilots can do some data running missions and that's about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Krait Mk II is basically the result of the paradigm ships away from "one CMDR and a Cobra" to "a crew in a Krait".

Edit: "crew in a Krait" :D

Well, sure, I agree with FD on medium ships being where the fun is at.

They also tend to have small hardpoints!

Personally think any weapon in the game should be in sizes UP TO the largest currently created.

So if there is a large, there is a small and medium too.

If there is a medium there is a small too.

etc.

I'm thinking this will be a good combat ship for VR headsets.

The Alliance Chieftain was the first combat ship that had a VR-friendly cockpit, IMO - and this looks to be similar with excellent visibility in the pitch directions. That seat-raising animation from the trailer makes me think that they did that specifically to improve the visibility for targets below you for a change.

It must be incredibly challenging to be programming this game to accomodate the extremes of players' setups who, at one end of the spectrum (like me) are using a laptop, and at the other are using VR.

And consoles, where Frontier does a surprisingly good job (if one ignores the bugs)!

We'll see. I am a little bit worried about the two front "pylons" above the cockpit limiting visuality to the upper left/right.

Is the Chieftain really the first one, though? I find the Vulture has a very VR-friendly cockpit view as well. (Until I applied those bumpers, that is. But I willingly sacrificed usability for style ...)

I find most cockpits/bridges to be pretty nice in VR. The Vulture is nice, and I also have the pylons, I prefer to die looking good. May try the Chieftain or Challanger, but really looking forward to the Krait. It looks superb and have no issues with the slightly obscured view. It just adds to the character of the ship.

Sounds good, but need to know (a) classes for the core modules and (b) the number of optional slots before cracking open the champagne. :)

If we get a ship that looks like the Terrapin I would be fine with SC getting a Krait-like ship :D

Thank you for pointing that one out. I had to look it up.
I thought I had seen all SC designs, but somehow I missed the Terrapin.
That is one of those few SC ship designs I really like. Great detail, but all SC ships have that going for them.
It is a bit small though. It is the size of a shuttle.
I wouldn't mind if the Panther Clipper looked a bit like that.

I agree and disagree with the sentiment. Yes, there are cars that are quanifiably better or worse than others, but having a ship with all upsides and no downsides means people will simply flock to that ship.

I'm torn because I don't necessarily like the options out there. Some people go for the "rock/paper/scissors" approach to balance - more firepower means slower ship or faster ship means weaker hull or whatever. But that always feels hollow to me.

Ideally I'd like to have each ship with its own strengths and weaknesses, but with a degree of upgradability that can compensate--but rather than equal across the board upgrades the way Engineers work right now, each ship type has its own unique "potential" over other ship types.

Just to be clear, I don't need a ship that is better than every other ship. I just hope they don't feel the need to include poison pill weaknesses just to make Python fans happy.

It's ok if a ship is a slight upgrade. The T10 was an upgrade. The solution for balance was to retrofit the T9 with more hull and more cargo and slightly better jump range. That's the kind of new ship integration I can get behind ;)

Really I wish they could just add an SLF to the Python.
