Launcher problems - can anyone help?

Hello everyone

After today's/yesterday's october update ive found that i cannot start the game - the 'play' button on the launcher simply 'greys out' for a time on activation, but then returns to its original state after maybe 7 or 8 seconds without having launched the game. This has never happened before. Does anyone have a solution to this? Does anyone know what might be going on?

thanks for the response
The answers to those questions are yes, yes, no and no. I will try reinstalling the launcher as per the FD guide and see if that works. I don't know how to validate game files yet
