Launcher request: Game mode window.

Hi,
Something that has bugged me since I first downloaded Elite nearly two years ago now (wow...) is the fact that the game modes are in a tiny little box and I always have to scroll down to find the mode I want.
Could this not be better presented?
Perhaps have the available modes as buttons on the launcher its self rather than options in that little window?

Thanks,
CMDR Soopyyy.

Optionally just make it a small popup.

You press Play button.
A small popup asks you what mode, and you click whatever mode you want to play... 32b, 64, Horizons, Beta, whatever.

That's also a good idea.
I know it seems like an insignificant gripe, but its something that really really annoys me every time I go to load the game!

Here is my list:
Elite: Dangerous [32bit]
Elite: Dangerous [64bit]
Elite: Dangerous Horizons [64bit]
Elite: Dangerous Arena[64bit]
Elite: Dangerous Horizons Engineers Beta[64bit]
Elite: Dangerous Missions 1.6 Beta[64bit]
Elite: Dangerous Missions 1.6 Beta[32bit]
Singleplayer Combat Training

In an inch deep box.

You can't see all that at once.

The truth is closer to

Hahahaha!
I didn't even think about screen shotting it. If you scroll down to click on Horizons you end up going right past it seventeen times until the sun and planets align in the sky.

What if we put in a game option via the launcher to select a 'default game' from the available options?

Not really. That would confuse the hell out of many people, and if you switch around (e.g. between beta and live game) you would sometimes end up with the wrong option because you misremembered what you had been running the last time yesterday.

I suggest instead that
a) the last used item always is at the top and/or pre-selected
b) we can filter out items we are not interested in. For example, there is no reason whatsoever for me to ever install or launch one of the 32 bit mods, the gameplay demo thing, or Arena standalone. Actually, right now my list could be reduced to two items: Horizons 64-bit and 2.1 Beta 64-bit

Doesn't really fix the UX issues with the launcher. Some people can't even start the game because the bottom section with the "play" button is entirely off screen.

The really small box at the very bottom of the screen with unclear (and not "preloaded") distinction between installed and available content is IMAO just ugly and should be up for a redesign.

(edit) and not everything has to look like a Metro application, have a Cobra on the Play button or something ;-)

+1:

I just need two links/buttons:
"Game" & "Beta"

--- and let me as user associate the game/bitness/version once under Configuration/Setup (or whatever it is called)

I currently have (installed, not installed):
- ED (32 bit)
- ED (64 bit)
- ED: Horizons (64 bit)
- ED: Arena (64 bit)
- ED: Horizons - Engineers Beta (2.1)
- ED - Missions beta (1.6) - 32 bit
- ED - Missions beta (1.6) - 64 bit
- Single Player Combat Training

If you could separate based on installed/uninstalled state that would be a good first step. I'm not ever going to want to install the 32 bit ones. You could go so far as to hide any uninstalled 32 bit product on a 64 bit machine - as there is no good reason to install the 32 when you can have the 64, correct?

Is there any good reason to launch "ED: Arena (64 bit)" when I have "ED (64 bit)" OR "ED: Horizons (64 bit)" - perhaps the launcher could auto-hide the Arena option when it is superseeded by an encompassing product?

Doing all that would leave me with the following list of launchable products (installed, not installed):
- ED (64 bit)
- ED: Horizons (64 bit)
- ED: Horizons - Engineers Beta (2.1)
- ED - Missions beta (1.6) - 64 bit

And when beta ends, just (installed, not installed):
- ED (64 bit)
- ED: Horizons (64 bit)

Which is way more manageable.

I own it ALL !

However I only play 3 games,

CQC
ED: Horizon 64bit
BETA

normally I only need the main game, like ED:horizon, therefor it would be nice just to have a few selections.
