Lave Radio needs your Help!!

The 2nd Hutton Convoy - with Ed Lewis at the head. We'd plotted a route through dangerous space, the Dastardly Don had brought his evil minions to attempt to interdict the convoy and steal the cargo. 200 plus ships, all heading on a 20 jump route..... All broadcast live

We jumped into the first waypoint with Ed firing up the timer for the next jump - reading out the co-ordinates and the various wings checking in.

Couple more jumps later and the first interdictions started - then.... they got Ed. He attempted to bribe his way out of the situation by offering to drop booze for them. It didn't work and he ended up a the rebuy screen.

He was so into the event that he might have inadvertently f-bombed live on a Frontier stream - then realised he was still streaming to the world and not just being part of the experience. The look on his face when we realised he'd been destroyed.... He had to go and load up on SOMETHING to offer the pirates and attempt to catch up with the convoy. Which he did and kept broadcasting throughout with aplomb as the convoy thundered on through space. He still lists it as his #1 gaming experience ever, despite having moved on to other things in recent years.

It was hectic, at one point the Fuel Rat at the refuelling point (there were a load of unscoopable stars en route) the pirates held up the waiting Fuel Rat and DEMANDED that they be refuelled as well.

The convoy made it, less a few ships. The cargo was unloaded.... the pirates took some of theirs to a nearby black market. It was incredible fun and to see even the community manager get into it so much, we KNEW we had a great event. Seeing all those hollow squares each jump as ships arrived - tens upon tens upon tens of pilots in the same instance - hearing the radio calls as people were interdicted, or escaped..... hearing people attempting to catch up to the convoy so they weren't easy prey on their own. THere was a wing of ships jumping ahead of the convoy to intercept any trouble - as we were jumping to catch them we could hear the banter as they engaged the enemy.

Incredible fun.

There have been a few really good memories, including randomly meeting two other Cmdrs at Sag A* in Open years ago and swapping stories. Or being pirated at a CG and then another Cmdr jumping in to provide covering fire so I could escape. Or the first time landing on a planet / seeing a barnacle / going inside a Thargoid structure...

But I think it has to be dropping the guns from my starting Cobra, buying a fuel scoop and heading straight out to the Pleiades Cluster with an 11Ly jump range, a 100Ly route plotter, and maniacal NPCs that would follow you to the ends of the galaxy. But the realisation when I finally got there, that I had just been able to fly to my favourite object in the night sky. In a game.
That's pretty special.

Another good one was on a livestream with Ed, when an FDL went past with the name 'Derek was Right' in full view. No bartender required!

My best moment was the day it went live Beta. I thought "after all these years I`m back" Then promptly blew myself up. Some things never did change. It has become part of my daily routine even if I do not play, I log on to see what is happening.

Best memory, first time landing at a dark surface site in a T-9.
Best ongoing experience, salvaging escape pods in a burning station in my T-9.

So basically something something T-9! :D (y)

There is tons of general fun, Salome' was fun, the first capital ship experience was awesome, but the first time I was hyperdicted was probably it.

Like Vingtetun, one of my favourite occasions was the 2nd Hutton Convoy, definitely a lot of fun!

One of my other memories was a much simpler occasion. I was on my way to Maia, can't remember why - possibly a CG - when noticed a message from CMDR Selezen asking if anyone could help him with something. As I was in the same system he was I volunteered my help. We winged up and I started flying towards his beacon on a nearby planet.

At first things went fairly smoothly and I landed my ship right next to him, but as I deployed my SRV something weird happened! I saw my ship take off and at the same time my SRV was flung across the planet, landing some distance away. I started driving back towards his beacon, apologising profusely for disappearing on him!

After a while, driving across extremely rough and bumpy terrain it was evident I was not going to reach him, especially as he was in a valley surrounded on all sides by mountains. Remembering I had a spare SRV on my ship, I self-destructed and started my descent again. This time I deployed the SRV without any incident and asked how I could help.

Turned out he had farmed a meta-alloy but when trying to load to his ship realised he didn't have a cargo rack! So I was asked to look after it while he went to a nearby planetary base to buy one. It only took a few minutes in the end, but it gave me such a warm glow to know I had helped another commander in a small way to me but important to him. It was later that same day I decided I wanted to be a Fuel Rat.

Oh, and I later learned he'd streamed the whole event! LOL :ROFLMAO:

I’ve had many moments since donning VR - but one that easily springs to mind is from the First Great Planetary Expedition - a few days in and I was driving pel-mel in darkness with only the floods on, navigating to the next waypoint by pointing at the blue planet in the sky and slowly seeing day spreading around that globe. Then the mountain peaks in the distance lit up as they caught the dawn sun and suddenly darkness was retreating across the landscape like a gargantuan oil slick, and the ambient piano music kicked in just at that moment. Had to swing around and watch it for a few minutes. One of my top VR moments. Amazing stuff.

Taking off for the 1st time in beta in a coriolis station and undocking facing an ELW in my brand new Oculus rift DK2. Jaw was (almost) literally on floor. Possibly my most thrilling moment ever in almost 40 years of gaming.
Utterly amazing .

Nothing for me has come close to that moment there of making me feel like the pilot of a space ship.

I had such a fun time blowing up bugs at The Gnosis after the Thargoids pulled it out of witchspace.
I mainly do exploration in game, so the thought of getting to the blocked off cone sector was appealing. Then Eagle Eye intercepted a Thargoid transmission about the system that Gnosis was staging from. I had never engaged in AntiXeno ops before, and this seemed like a great chance to give it a try, so I turned my exploraconda around, picked up a combat ship with all the AX stuff I could get and headed back for The Gnosis for its magical mystery trip. 31 dead bugs, quarter billion in rebuys, and got mentioned in the list of Hutton Truckers defending The Gnosis on the 13 September 2018 broadcast. All in all, I had a grand time.

One of my favorite memories actually happened to take place not long ago, during the 8WD Endurance Championship (Scarab Rally Racing). During the last race of the series, Alec Turner and myself were close in points in a battle for second place. We both went full out to try to win the stage and both ended up exploding almost simultaneously in the same crater. It was an absolutely hilarious coincidence, and definitely added to the fun shenanigans on the day.

As a note: Alec did end up beating me out for 2nd place in the series, thus perpetuating the myth that Alec Turner does in fact organize all races and always comes in second. :D

When I first had a fistful of Credits (when it was actually hard to earn them), and A-rated my Freegle.

Just trying to stay in the blind spot of my first Anaconda in a REZ, slowly chipping away at it’s hull...

Happy days, will always have a soft spot for the Eagle...

Arriving at omega mining station with dw2 in my dbx.. Boosting into the station and meeting a friendly beluga. Also boosting but leaving the station.. I was like a fly hitting a car and I exploded instantly. As I watched the animation I could just see how the station killed the beluga with its guns.

The CMDR and I had a good laugh about it in chat and I had to start again from the bubble.

1 - Distant Worlds 3302. This was my first introduction to exploration in Elite. I hadn't even left the bubble before signing up to take part. The journey to Beagle Point was something I'll never forget. Meeting people along the way at the basecamps, helping a stranded player get across the Abyss, and finally getting to Beagle and taking part in all the events there. We made the first ever mass jumps on DW1, had SRV races in far off places, searched for jumponium in the Abyss. Simply the best event in Elite to date.

2 - The Colonia Expedition - the one where everyone was taking meta alloys to get Jaques back online. That reminded me a lot of Distant Worlds as it was a bunch of players all working to a common goal. 3302 was a brilliant year for community events like that.

3 - Distant Worlds 3305. What can I say? Being part of the biggest ever event in Elite speaks for itself. A re-run of the first one, but the with added bonus of building the Explorer's Anchorage during the trip, as well as looking for all the new Codex stuff that had just been released. The amount of friends I made on that trip is what's kept me playing the game today as I think Elite peaked for me during DW2, I doubt anything anyone does these days will ever match it.

Mine would have been dropping in to a ring system for the first time in the Alpha - I could not believe what FD had produced - fantastic stuff

(seems so normal now, but at the time, after the huge drought of space sims for years... this thrilled me beyond measure!) :)

I think I'll go with completing my quest to visit all stars of Orionis constellation.
Back then engineers didn't exist and collecting jumponium materials was much more difficult (after it became a thing during said quest). You had to land 'blind' as you didn't know what materials were on a given body until you found them, and each mat drop gave you only one unit. :)

Good one, an epic moment of mutual destruction! 😆

Checks current Pomeche leaderboard, points and shakes fist at person currently in 2nd place!

I don't think any experience can compare with that first time starting up the game, whether you started in alpha, beta, gamma, or after release. Just sitting in the ship, having no idea what you should do, but seeing the station around you and ships flying around. It was a real wow moment, and a moment you only get to experience once.

Then you open the galaxy map, zoom out and have your second wow moment....

Being a part of TruffleShuffles shenanigans by accident.
I was in my AX Viper MK3, heading to Yang Hub for restock/repairs when I noticed a hollow square in supercruise. I selected it and it already dropped (low wake) and I was so close Yang hub that it signalled I could drop, so I did. However because I had the hollowed square selected, that turned into low wake, it dropped me into an instance with Truffle, who was in the middle of kiting an interceptor to Yang hub. So I was welcomed by the "Energy surge detected" and all my systems went offline.

I somehow survived that and started boosting to the station since I wasn't that far. I reached Yang Hub and sure enough, an interceptor was attacking it.
It was a cool sight to see (this needs to get implemented into the game, imo), I requested for docking and it was approved.

While trying to reach the mailslot I lost shields and was down to 60% hull. As I entered the mail slot I stopped mid "air" and opened the communication panel to ask what is going on.

I pressed TAB in order to switch tabs in the communications panel, facepalmed immediately as I heard the boost sound.
Without shields I boosted (obviously by accident) into the back wall of the station, got a fine for loitering in the process. As any commander would, I pretended nothing happened and started limping back to my landing pad. I swear I'm not making this up, that interceptor sniped my power plant through the mail slot as I was few meters off the pad. All my systems went offline again and I'm sitting there with no power, looking at my pad, being shot by that interceptor. I managed to land with 30% hull.
