LaveCon 2018 QA quick recap

What is that last screenshot?

Yeah, and Sandro even made a very quick mention about dangers while flying in space during this nebula lightning footage. Dare we hope that exploring space might actually get some dangers put into it? Lightning strikes anyone??? :D

I just wondering is that technically possible? I mean theoretically yes, but how it is explained from science :)

I just watched that clip and it looks very cool though :D

On 4 years of what's been said and then actually delivered

Actually they have delivered huge majority on their promises.

Certainly it's possible. Lightning in nebulas is in my suggestion thread in my signature, I've been asking for it for four years now. I'd bet on it being a precursor to lightning strikes while flying in storms in atmospheric worlds too, even gas giant atmospheres. Shields could absorb a couple hits, after that your taking hull damage! (hopefully)

This is a fantastic sign, very promising IMHO.

The lighting improvements look amazing, and holy frack at those ice planets!!!

Concise and pretty impressive talk. I'm obviously very excited about exploration. No more eyeballing FD ? Weird phenomenons to find ? Exploration drones gameplay ? TAKE MY MONEY !!!! Oh wait .... it's a free update :)

Now, I won't celebrate until Q4 release : show stopping bugs ? blatant design flaws ? unbearable grind ? I hope FD will avoid the usual pitfalls.

But I must admit : according to this video, FD decided to address some of the major issues I have (and, I suspect, a lot of other CMDRs) with exploration.

So far, so good !

PS : Thanks @Cmdr Eagleboy for the recap, have some rep :)

Thank goodness for new hud elements too. If they can’t change the colors then I hope we continue to get these new elements for different gameplay options.

That's quite a reveal they've shown us !

Looks like there will be more depth to mining .... have they hinted at planetary mining, or only asteroids?

The new improved lighting looks much much better

Regarding the exploration drones...

i hope they will not take cargospace; rather I would like to see a subslot to the DSS, where you can fit different ammo packs that contains x number of Probes.

This is some awesome news. Love pretty much all of it! Kinda stoked about the ice shaders as well. I remember ages ago in a discussion here people asked how the surface could be improved, and i pointed at how it looks with CoD:IW

Glad FD is going for more or less the same shader approach. :D

I wonder if you will find all POI in the probes scan range, or do you find nothing until the the entire planet is painted with probes.

I see they're finally addressing some depth issues with the core of the game for everyone that doesn't have anything to do with combat (which is always nice).

Universal Lighting/color features are nice for everyone. Ice shaders, etc. Definitely improved over the vanilla release.

The probes and mechanics associated are cool and Multicrew ability is a nice touch for cooperative Exploration. Personally seeing this as the only "reveal" for explorers so far.

I'll be a bit more impressed when I see more actual exploration-specific items.

The visual enhancements look great as (nearly) always, as do the new space "phenomena". Visually it will be a great update for sure. Overall everything sounds nice. Drones are definitively (at least in theory, let's see in practice) a great improvement over the past 4 years of eyeballing and accidental stumbling into discoveries.

But I hope they do not mess it up by making each drone occupy a ton of cargo space, thus requiring large cargo capacities, followed by endless surface scaveging (an activity I dread even more than a colonoscopy) for synthesis, or worse require materials found only in the bubble (hello heat sinks). I would have preferred some kind of new scanner functionality instead of consumables, mostly to avoid these "possible" issues.
